AIBU to have sat on her feet

Tongue in cheek really, I feel perfectly reasonable. OH thinks I'm getting old, intolerant, and grumpy.

Got on the bus today with shopping bags in tow, they're heavy and I'm knackered (I have a disability that causes chronic exhaustion, but it's invisible). It's heaving busy in town/on bus, so I head to the back of the bus so we can fit some bags on our lap/feet out of people's way/the aisle.

One corner of the back seats is taken. The other corner has one, older teenage girl, taking up 4 seats with herself taking one seat, her handbag taking another, and her feet on the 2 seats in front of her, burying her head in her phone as if she can't see us. Didn't move her handbag or feet from the two seats, despite my obviously being right in front of her, so I just gave up and sat on her feet.

She removed them sharpish, probably because I'm quite fat.

Probably not helped by the inward trip earlier today, where having dodged one teenager's leg placed right into the aisle, I tripped over the next one's leg in aisle and went flying.

I couldn't be arsed asking her to move, because I was about 6 inches in front of her, my OH had sat in the seat next to her handbag, so there's no way she couldn't have known we were there (no headphones, either) so I thought, if you're going to pretend I'm not there, I'm going to pretend you're not. But ffs, I sat on a teenager. ON PURPOSE. Not a high point in my life.

Good for you, it would depend on my mood as to how I would have reacted, but reading how you felt, I prob would have done the same. Some people are just so rude and self entitled, or just plain oblivious, either way I think you made your point lol

It WAS an adult, and she wasn't assaulted, don't be so dramatic. And stop making nasty fat shaming comments, I guarantee no one is going to read you calling OP "fat arse" and think badly of the OP, only of you.

And the irony that posters are lining up to describe an 19yr old woman as a "kid" on a forum where you can't use the word "girl" to describe anyone over about 12 without posters doing the faux confused head-tilty "I'm sorry I don't understand, you claim you were 'out clubbing with the girls', surely you don't really mean you were out clubbing with children??" thing.

Good. I'd honestly hope you chose to say something rather than just 'be pissed off', so you could explain yourself as to exactly why as an adult you feel that not just your bag, but your fucking feet are entitled to seats when a lot of people are trying to get a seat. I mean, older teenagers doing it, is bad enough. Doing it as a grown adult and you're just a societal neanderthal and deserve to be treated like one.

Oh, I like you 😂😂😂

I think you’re brilliant! Next time sit on a manspreader please!

I can't wait. They fuck me off as well.

No one's balls are that big.

I often take the same bus to work in the morning. Your post reminded me of a lady who sometimes takes the same bus. She has the most beautiful long and curly hair but she flicks it over the back of the seat and it's very annoying at times. I have a secret fantasy about taking out a pair of scissors and snipping it off. I'm a bad person aren't I?

That's called an intrusive thought, and if you're not careful, end up acting on them, like me. 😅

Although I'm fully with you dresstime. When they flick it around and the waft of smell of their hair hits you each time 😩

Thank you, ghostoflogan 👏

I learned a long time ago that there are far worse things than being fat*. Like being toomuchtrouble and thinking you're entitled to four seats on the bus. I mean, I'm overweight and STILL manage to not take up more than one seat on the bus.

*(except on mumsnet of course because we're a drain on the NHS)

I would be interested to know who was sat in the other corner of the back seats that you chose to leave be and pick on the teenage girl?

The teenager's trotters were on the SEAT.
Feet don't need their own seat.
Seats are for bottoms, they are not foot stools.

ChicaneTurn · 14/09/2023 08:20

Skogrammy · 12/09/2023 11:42

You must of been dragged up… all you had to say was can you move your feet please. So bloody rude.

I think it was the teen who was ‘dragged up’ surely?

(btw it’s must ‘have’ not ‘of’. Bugbear of mine).

ChicaneTurn · 14/09/2023 08:21

OP my 18 and 20y olds salute you. They hate this kind of selfish and inconsiderate behaviour as much as any decent person does.

dontchaknow · 14/09/2023 08:32

Whether there are seats available or not, when did it become acceptable to put your feet/shoes (which have walked through god knows what) on seats intended for people to sit on? When did it become acceptable to put your child and its filthy shoes/feet inside the shopping trolley (where food goes) instead of in the seat?
Some people are animals.

MsRosley · 14/09/2023 08:35

I'd have been tempted to sit on her feckin' head.

NippySweetie16 · 14/09/2023 08:42

In the old days I used to commute to the big city by bus. Most days an older woman could be found on the back seat doing similar. So this type of entitlement not reserved for young people!!

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 14/09/2023 08:52

Checkcurtains · 12/09/2023 10:39

She was rude but you assaulted her so you really can't take the moral high ground here OP

How hard is it to ask someone to move? Seriously

Assault? Hilarious Grin

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 14/09/2023 09:01

As a passenger on a bus it's pretty obvious that as the bus fills up you need to give up the extra seats you are hogging. Common sense and courtesy to others.

This young lady didn't and it would have been obvious to the young lady her seats were needed.

OP didn't shout at her she simply sat down and young person moved her feet.

It's not assault and it's not bullying. OP may or may not have done the same with a bloke although something about her posting style tells me she would have Grin and frankly to compare her actions to a sexist Twat man cat calling a woman is ridiculous. The intention and effect are miles apart.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 14/09/2023 09:05

FOUR SEATS PEOPLE! She was taking up 4 seats. She knows full well she's being selfish.
It's a bus not a bloody Uber

LinaM20 · 14/09/2023 10:01

If my 18 yo son had come home and said someone did this to him I would have laughed and said “it serves you right!” 😂
we randomly had a conversation about this the other day following a TikTok one of us was watching and he genuinely couldn’t understand why I said it was not right to put feet on seats in public transport! He’s been travelling to college by train for the last 2 years!

Annemaria · 14/09/2023 10:16

I’ve had the same trouble on trains & even planes Men usually, manspreading with their laptops & bag on the seat beside them, pretending not to see the older lady standing in the aisle looking meaningfully at them. They don’t seem to have any empathy.

Oioicaptain · 14/09/2023 13:27

Your post made me chuckle. You're the equivalent of the recent Mumsnet Flipflop flinger! Strong women reclaiming the world from the cheeky and entitled!

Iamnotastick · 14/09/2023 13:35

People who put their feet and bags on seats are close to stop of my list of people i detest the most on public transport. Still behind those who talk loudly on their phone. If I were Queen of the world (and I really should be) then I would create seats that gave you a sharp electrical zinger every time your voice went above a certain volume.

Malarandras · 14/09/2023 13:52

OP I pass on my sincere thanks to you for tackling this entitled and rude behaviour. You are a legend.

Me too. When I see someone with their feet on the seats then I’m sorely tempted to wipe the bottom of my shoes on their trousers. So far I’ve resisted.

narniabusiness · 14/09/2023 14:33

I can understand a bag in a seat if it’s not busy to keep your bag clean though - but feet are never acceptable. Also enraged by the people who sit on the aisle seat rather than moving over to the window seat, so you have to ask to be let past.

Readingineading · 14/09/2023 14:34

Bravo, my late SMIL would have done this .

TheGhostofLoganRoy · 14/09/2023 15:10

I got on the tube the other day and the only seat was between two blokes who were both manspreading like mad. By coincidence I happened to be carrying a large cage full of live rats.

So if anyone's looking for a surefire way to make manspreaders stop, I've found it.

MrMucker · 14/09/2023 15:54

99 times out of 100 getting on a bus and sitting on someone's feet without any consultation whatsoever will not end well, and therefore that was probably your luckiest moment of the week.
