AIBU to have sat on her feet

Tongue in cheek really, I feel perfectly reasonable. OH thinks I'm getting old, intolerant, and grumpy.

Got on the bus today with shopping bags in tow, they're heavy and I'm knackered (I have a disability that causes chronic exhaustion, but it's invisible). It's heaving busy in town/on bus, so I head to the back of the bus so we can fit some bags on our lap/feet out of people's way/the aisle.

One corner of the back seats is taken. The other corner has one, older teenage girl, taking up 4 seats with herself taking one seat, her handbag taking another, and her feet on the 2 seats in front of her, burying her head in her phone as if she can't see us. Didn't move her handbag or feet from the two seats, despite my obviously being right in front of her, so I just gave up and sat on her feet.

She removed them sharpish, probably because I'm quite fat.

Probably not helped by the inward trip earlier today, where having dodged one teenager's leg placed right into the aisle, I tripped over the next one's leg in aisle and went flying.

I couldn't be arsed asking her to move, because I was about 6 inches in front of her, my OH had sat in the seat next to her handbag, so there's no way she couldn't have known we were there (no headphones, either) so I thought, if you're going to pretend I'm not there, I'm going to pretend you're not. But ffs, I sat on a teenager. ON PURPOSE. Not a high point in my life.

She was being a typical entitled teen to take up so much space on the bus but you were far ruder and immature not to just say excuse me please.

Honestly teens are typically very self absorbed, doesn't mean you have to be a rude and ignorant arse yourself. Certainly not assault, just immature.

I had a moment like this - and many don't move even if you ask nicely!

I am disabled and can only walk with a 4-wheeled walker. I was on a busy ferry and a group of teenage girls had sat on the floor to play cards blocking access to the disabled toilet. I think they were a youth football team as they were wearing matching team uniforms. I asked very nicely if they could move to let me into the toilet - ignored! I asked again - also ignored! So I took a breath and said very loudly "you can move or I can run over your feet - you choose" and one of they rolled her eyes at me ... so I proceeded to drive. Got the first 2 but the others then scuttled out of the way.

Well done... this dumb ignorance and lack of consideration really winds me up 👍

Several people, meaning there was no seats without an arse in it. We generally only go for seats that don't have an arse in it.

Feet however, are fair game.

They’re certainly fair games for Merseyrail - instant fines here for putting your feet up on train seats.

You taught her a lesson that she needs to learn. Not a problem.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 12/09/2023 13:35

I think you did well there Op!

My only question would be why your OH sat themselves down first before making sure you definitely had a seat, if you have chronic exhaustion.

Sallyh87 · 12/09/2023 13:35

I don’t think there is anything particularly clever about hurting a child. Just ask her to move.

Elodie09 · 12/09/2023 13:37

What has happened to people? Simply cannot believe posters defending anyone taking up 4 seats on public transport!

TheSummerITurnedChubby · 12/09/2023 13:38

It’s a while since I’ve commuted on busy trains or tubes but I always had a zero tolerance rule to bags etc taking up seats. I never used to ask “permission” to sit down; I would just breezily say “Hi I’m just going to sit here - thanks!” and point to the offending item. I don’t think I ever sat on a bag but made it perfectly clear that I WAS going to sit down and would sit on it if necessary…

I don’t think you were wrong OP

DinnaeFashYersel · 12/09/2023 13:39

I salute you. Well done.

Learn to drive

Have you had your feet sat on on the bus today @Cappucino23 ?

That's it. I've peaked for MN ridiculousness for the day. Really, who gets off on this sort of shit? What is the point?

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 12/09/2023 13:40

I voted YABU as you could have said 'Excuse me'. If you ha done that and she hadn't moved, then sit on feet.

Alondra · 12/09/2023 13:41

😂Teens are bad but at least if you gesticulate and point like a headless chook to them, they'll look up and move their feet, backpack and whatever else is on near seats to grumpily accommodate you.

Tourists are worse. They put suitcase on seats, one in each seat and when you tell them to put them in the overhead luggage, they say no, I don't understand, you can't make me do it. You then look at them like you want to kill them, threat them with calling police (which is ridiculous because there is no police or security in the train) and suddenly they put their luggage where's supposed to go freeing seats.

I live in Australia Blue Mountains, and I'm sick of badly behaved tourists. Teens are easy 😊

AnneNotEmily · 12/09/2023 13:45

I was on a packed train recently and a lady had brought a stair gate with her which she had attached by a bungee on each side so that no one could sit next to her. I would have laughed but the previous rush hour train had been cancelled so when I say packed, it was really packed and she was sitting there, glaring at everyone and holding the gate latch closed!

Natty13 · 12/09/2023 13:48

She couldnt be arsed to move her feet

You couldnt be arsed to use your words like an adult.

British passive aggression at it's peak. Both of you as bad as each other IMO. I alwaus ask people to move their body parts/posessions if taking up more thaj 1 seat THEN sit on them if they refuse. 99.9% of time they say "oh sorry" and move them so this isnt needed.

SecondClassmyass · 12/09/2023 13:50

You little legend 👏 🥇

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 12/09/2023 13:54

Ghosttofu99 · 12/09/2023 00:03

Its rude that she had her feet on the seat but you will never know if she would have moved them and apologise if you had just said ‘hey can you move your feet.’ Was she 19 or 13? You can’t assume she was ignoring you just because she didn’t look at you. How do you know she doesn’t also have a hidden disability that makes it hard to quickly perceive disgruntled adults heading towards her. Doubt you would have done the same to an adult man. Best case scenario a rude person sat on another rude person except one was an adult and should have known better.

That teenager had NO business putting her feet on seats that people would want to sit on. Even if the bus were empty. Why would anybody want to sit on seats where her dirty feet have been?

Some people just behave as if they have the world to themselves to do as they like. To me, they're just disgracing their parents. If it were my daughter, there's no a chance she ever would have learned this stupid and selfish habit.

OP... good for you. Star

TorroFerney · 12/09/2023 13:58

Ive done it a few times in theatres/seated gigs. Probably less chance of getting abuse or stabbed than in public transport. With me it’s not been feet on seats but men with I assume huge testicles so they have to keep their legs apart infringing into my seat area either on the seat or the space in front. I just sit down, most men seem to be mortified at physical contact and move. They have seen me so have chosen not to move.

RubiRage · 12/09/2023 13:59

These fuckers know what they’re doing, it ain’t always kids either. They just don’t want anyone to sit by them, & it pisses me off that they sit there with a bag on the seat knowing very well that the bus or train is packed & there are people standing because of this. I can’t believe people will stand & say nothing to them. I’ll just say excuse me & sit. Oh dear you didn’t break an ankle did you by any chance? 🤭

Agree,it’s not a disability that hampers reaction time this would be a disability that makes you put your shoes on a seat. I don’t know if that being a thing.

Username620 · 12/09/2023 14:01

I think you did what she deserved. It’s not just teenagers that behave this way. Everyone has their headphones in on public transport and just completely ignore other people.
My E-scooter was in the wheelchair/buggy space the other day (there were no wheelchairs or buggies on board) and there was a teenager standing with his legs around my E-scooter. I said excuse me 3 times and no reaction. I had to pull my scooter out from underneath him. Plus he could have been sitting there were plenty of seats.

Nobody is defending the girl.

Many are saying "try asking her to move her feet and bags"

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 12/09/2023 14:10

There are plenty of posters tacitly defending the girl by putting the onus on the OP to ask her to move her feet and bags? Why the hell should anybody have to do that? What kind of shoddy parenting delivers people like this girl who put their shitty shoes on public seats?

Some of those parents seem to be on this thread sure enough.

Soubriquet · 12/09/2023 14:13

Always reminds me of this. this kid refused to move so he got sat on

its all over sm btw. I didn’t just take random pictures

As I previously pointed out most modern busses are DESIGNED to put your feet up on. They literally tell you too.
