To expect to have my own seat in the lounge?

Dh and I have always had places we sit, I sit on one end of a massive corner sofa and he sits in the middle where it makes an L and that been the way for years.
Adult DS moved back home recently after living with a partner for 7 years (longer than we've lived in this house or had this sofa) and sits in my seat, I used to ask him to move up but he seems to like that seat (as I do ) because there's a table and charging port so argues he can sit there if nobody's in it.
But even if I'm not in it I'm only up for a minute pottering about and then he's in my seat again.

AIBU do other people have their seats in the house or am I selfish as he pays his way and it should be first come first serve?

Even our grandchildren know it's my seat.
Your house your seat.
Tell your ds to move.

vipersnest1 · 11/09/2023 21:11

My cat sits in MY seat - I swear he does it on purpose!

Wallywobbles · 11/09/2023 21:12

Id never have knocked either of our parents seats. Anywhere.

Letsgocamping67 · 11/09/2023 21:12

Big fat no here. He gets his seat when he gets his own place.

Goodbyetoauntie · 11/09/2023 21:13

My friend has her seat which I think is really odd although I wouldn't be happy with someone stealing a spot I'd warmed up while in the toilet.

AliceOlive · 11/09/2023 21:18

He’s rude and entitled given that you allowed him to move back.

crochetcrazy1978 · 11/09/2023 21:23

Reminds me of when I was a kid in a big family and my dad always used to say 'bums reserve seats, ie first come first served 😆

Tilllly · 11/09/2023 21:27

Your house

Your sofa

Your rules!

Mum2jenny · 11/09/2023 21:30

Again it’s your house and your sofa, so must move, not an option imo

Neronicecostanasty · 11/09/2023 21:30

You have welcomed him back into your home as an adult. You and DH had your own seats, routines etc. and DS needs to fit in if he wants to live in your home. Explain calmly but in a non negotiable tone (and not at a moment of seat conflict) that moving back as an adult means fitting in with his hosts. You love him and he's welcome, but he needs to be more sensitive to the fact that he's moved into your home.

tedybear · 11/09/2023 21:31

😮 Noooooo. I'd be fuming if my mum did that to me or my dad or anyone as an adult. Bad enough getting that done to u as a child.

If he's already sitting there u need to find somewhere else to sit.

Reminds me of my dad getting home from work and tapping me on the back of the head. Move out my chair 😡 as I got older I refused!

CornedBeef451 · 11/09/2023 21:35

I have a favourite seat and ask the DCs to move if I want to sit there.

I think it's your house, your rules, your favourite seat!

Hollyppp · 11/09/2023 21:38

All seats are free for all in this house.

obviously if you jump up for a wee and intend to come back then that’s different

TrishTrix · 11/09/2023 21:39

My parents were territorial about their seats in the living room. My siblings and I accepted it as fair game. Their house. Their rules. We were guests.

It was a few years after my Mum died before any of us started using "her" armchair.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 11/09/2023 21:41

Tell him to move, it’s your Sheldon seat 😊

MrsCarson · 11/09/2023 21:42

YANBU
I have an armchair with a footrest. No one sits in my chair but me the evening. Dd does to make me laugh and I get to give her a hug and pull a tickle to get her out but it's playful and we laugh which is rare with a teen. But other than that it's all mine.

nokidshere · 11/09/2023 21:44

I need to sit leaning to my right due to joint problems. No one sits in my seat 😂. If Dcs are around they get up instantly if I com3 back into the living room.

God really? You'd refuse to move out of your dads seat? I don't even have a seat, nor did I grow up with parents who had this, in fact we always had separate sitting rooms but that seems incredibly rude and disrespectful. I'm assuming he was paying the bills in the house, surely he was entitled to use the chair he liked?!

NiceUnusualDifferent · 11/09/2023 21:52

Same here!

CoreopsisEverywhere · 11/09/2023 21:55

I have my seat. Nobody else is allowed to sit on it.

readbooksdrinktea · 11/09/2023 21:59

ZadocPDederick · 11/09/2023 21:08

It's your house and your sofa, so your choice.

Can you import another table and charging point at the other end of the sofa?

Good idea. Maybe the son can buy it.

YANBU, OP.

BashfulClam · 11/09/2023 21:59

Mil is always desperate to sit in my place. No idea why but if I even get up for a glass of water or a wee she’s in it like a shot. If I’m actually
in my seat she says ‘oh well I’ll sit here I guess!’ Which is the same sofa as I’m on. Then she waits to pounce on my seat.

CurlewKate · 11/09/2023 22:02

He's a man. Of course he gets his choice of seats.

FrangipaniBlue · 11/09/2023 22:03

We had a corner sofa with a recliner at one end plus a 2 seater recliner.

Since we bought it in 2004 I always sat in the corner with legs down one end and DH used a recliner on the 2 seater.

Around 3 years ago the 2 seater broke and we replaced it with a new one but without recliners.

For the 3 month we awaited delivery DH switched to the recliner on the corner sofa. When the new 2 seater came he decided he preferred having a recliner so I started using the new sofa because I prefer to lie down, and I couldn't on the corner sofa with DH on one end.

Fast forward to 12 months ago and DH randomly decided to relocate to MY SOFA..... not only that, when I come in the room he'll say "do you want to sit here? I prefer over there anyway"

SO WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU SAT ON MY SEAT MAKING IT ALL WARM AND SQUISHED????

WandaWonder · 11/09/2023 22:05

I can't say it bothers me, stretching out so no one can sit is annoying bit other than that I don't care
