Hi all.

I’m so sorry but I’m purely posting here for traffic. My 15 year old son was assaulted very badly by a professional boxer (18) at the beginning of this week. He was admitted to hospital and had a CT scan to check for any obvious bleeding. Everything was ok. He was diagnosed with a severe concussion. He has lost about 2 weeks of memory and can’t remember anything at all from the day of the accident. He seemed to be improving but in the last 24hrs he seems to be deteriorating. We were given a list of red flags to look out for but none of this is on there so I don’t know if it’s ok to just keep letting him rest without taking him back to A&E?

  • It takes on average about 6 times for him to register me saying his name if I’m right next to him. He is in a complete daze.
  • He has no appetite at all and is still very nauseous.
  • He cannot sleep.
  • He cannot remember things I’ve said to him just an hour or so before.
  • He has developed intense anxiety and is very confused.
  • Things he started remembering he has now forgotten again.
  • He is very pale and lethargic.
  • He is extremely sensitive to sunlight.

I called the hospital but they wouldn’t let me speak to anyone. What do I do? Is this all normal post concussion or do I need to take him to A&E?

Please be kind. I’ve never experienced this before and I don’t know what is normal and what isn’t. Thanks so much in advance.

So not to drip feed.. yes the police are involved and we’ve done everything we have had to do so far as we know. We’ve been very vigilant and I’ve been sleeping next to him every night.

Zanatdy · 10/09/2023 22:17

A&E - hope he’s ok

Theredtoyphone · 10/09/2023 22:18

Definitely go back to A&E

TrixieFatell · 10/09/2023 22:18

Take him in.

HungryandIknowit · 10/09/2023 22:18

Not who you're looking for but trust your gut. If it were me I would take him straight to A&E.

MissingMoominMamma · 10/09/2023 22:18

Take him now.

Ratfinkstinkypink · 10/09/2023 22:18

Definitely A&E tonight.

Rounee · 10/09/2023 22:19

Agree with everyone

Take him back to a and e

Lizzieregina · 10/09/2023 22:19

Yep A&E right away. Better to overreact than underreact in this situation.

Cowlover89 · 10/09/2023 22:19

A&E

Foodie6 · 10/09/2023 22:19

I'm not a medical professional OP but if your DS has suddenly deteriorated then please take him back to A&E regardless of if they're on the "red flag" list. Do not worry about bothering medical professionals. They'd want you to come in if you're concerned about a worsening head injury.

Jojobees · 10/09/2023 22:20

A and E. not an overreaction at all. Poor lad.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 10/09/2023 22:20

Please take him

user76541055773 · 10/09/2023 22:20

Straight back to A&E

What a horrendous thing for you both to go through Flowers

towriteyoumustlive · 10/09/2023 22:20

I'm not a doctor and never one to suggest hospital unless absolutely necessary but in this case I'd take him in.

ZombieNations · 10/09/2023 22:20

Take him to A&E, it’s not worth the risk. Hope he makes a full recovery soon ❤️‍🩹

Sapphire387 · 10/09/2023 22:20

Oh my god, what an awful thing to have happened.

I am not medical but I agree with the others, you need to take him to A&E.

Sending good wishes.

Winkenblinkenandnod · 10/09/2023 22:20

Dr here, take him to A&E. Could be concussion symptoms but he probably needs re scanned for bleeding, or at least reassessed.

ladygoingGaga · 10/09/2023 22:21

Not a medical professional but I say as he is deteriorating then A&E tonight

marmite2023 · 10/09/2023 22:21

À and E. If you can, video his behaviour / responses so you have an accurate depiction of his issue and/or start making notes in your diary of episodes of repetition and memory loss. He may need another brain scan.

ex rugby player here - this is not good, OP. Good luck.

MelissyMoo · 10/09/2023 22:22

Thank you all so much! This is very reassuring. I don’t want to waste anyone’s time or resources so it’s good to know that others would do the same as I want to do. Thank you ❤️

Hospital- now. People go for far less; you know what's right. Best wishes x

Popsicle42 · 10/09/2023 22:22

Definitely take him to A&E. Not a medic but I read a lot of reports about head injuries. What you’ve described could suggest that he has some chronic bleeding in the brain.

lunar1 · 10/09/2023 22:22

It sounds like he has post traumatic amnesia, which more often than not resolves.

Take him back to be checked, it's not an overreaction at all. There is no way for you to know without the hospital doing an assessment and/or scans.

Unicorntastic · 10/09/2023 22:23

Take him to A&E , I assume there is a case ongoing for the assault, this needs to be recorded too. Hope he’s ok OP
