HOLIDAY/BIRTH CERT CRISIS 😩

OHFUCKCRAP · 10/09/2023 19:44

Name changed incase anyone can link me to previous posts.

IM PANICKING.

me and my dd age 7 are due to go abroad in 2.5 weeks. We have different surnames and I’m seperated from her father. Got his permission to take her out the country and he’s going to provide a letter no problem.

On the gov website it says I need her birth certificate to prove I’m her mother. Lovely ! Collect it from my stepdad (he keeps all my important documents always has done) and he’s fucking LAMINATED it 😩😩😩 so god knows what they are going to do if they ask for it.

I go back on the gov website to order a new one that is posted the next working day. AMAZING. Only I’m putting in her details TIME AND TIME again and nothing is coming up. Can’t even find her on the GRO index.

I’ve rambled and I’m sorry but WHAT DO I DO NOW?!! She has had a very shit year and if they turn us away her heart will break 😩😩😩

I don’t understand this. Where I would I find it? When I panic I seriously don’t understand basic things

Dm me with her details and I'll find her gro ref for you to order. Full name dob, place of birth, parents names. The number of times I've lost my dd's cert! Just offering to ease your anxiety but understand if you'd worry about your privacy. I recentlyhelped a friend get her kids certs because dick abusive father took the paperwork when he left.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 10/09/2023 20:00

I've got a different surname to DD. We've travelled together umpteen times and I've never once been asked for her birth certificate.

PP suggesting taking a photo and putting it in your phone sounds perfect. You can always put the laminated copy in your suitcase in case they want to see the real thing.

OHFUCKCRAP · 10/09/2023 20:01

Bloody hell alright 😂 if you read my original post you will understand I’m trying to order a new one but I can’t find it on the gov website. Also online it says that laminating a birth certificate could invalidate it.

its not a fuss over nothing though is it lovely. It’s important to me.

OHFUCKCRAP · 10/09/2023 20:01

Thank you i shall do that now!

100% overthinking. But that’s me, I overthink EVERYTHING. Just so worried about letting her down that’s all

Have travelled solo with DC at least 10 times and never been queried - and we have different surnames too.

Lanjodjam · 10/09/2023 19:54

Pretty sure that if you just cut the sealed edges then the document will slide out

Don't try this! It won't work if it's laminated.

OHFUCKCRAP · 10/09/2023 20:05

Thank you. I think I’m overthinking it 😳😳

bellsbuss · 10/09/2023 20:05

You can have a screen shot of it in your phone to show. You don't need the actual certificate , I had a different surname ti my children until I married their father and was asked for their birth certificates , passport control said just to keep copies on my phone incase of a next time

shieldmaiden7 · 10/09/2023 20:06

I've ordered copies of my children's birth certificates thanks to the ex losing them all. I just paid the extra for next day. Is it not possible for you to do the same?

Sismamsspam · 10/09/2023 20:06

My son and I have different surnames. It’s been questioned a few times. In the last few years the immigration desk person has asked my son who I am… each time he’s looked at them like they are stupid and said “My mum!”
I’ve never taken his birth certificate, but I think a laminated copy would just make you look organised.
I doubt you’ll have an issue.

OHFUCKCRAP · 10/09/2023 20:06

I’ve just looked online and it doesn’t look as easy as the others are kindly saying. I’m not attempting it

OP posts:
mnahmnah · 10/09/2023 20:06

Please, please stop thinking about it and just do it - cut the laminate, take the certificate out. Done.

Climbin · 10/09/2023 20:06

Yes never had a problem, travelled multiple times to Europe with my young kids, different surname, in last ten years, no letters, no birth certs. Sometimes just asked them who Mum is job done

mynamechangemyrules · 10/09/2023 20:08

I have 3 kids with different surname to me and complicated messy overseas divorce. Multiple trips per year to varied countries with fiercely patriarchal societies, and have never, not even once, been asked to show their birth certificates or any evidence that they are mine/ I have permission to fly with them.

OHFUCKCRAP · 10/09/2023 20:08

@shieldmaiden7 I’m trying to but it’s not finding her! I will happily pay the £35 😂

mynamechangemyrules · 10/09/2023 20:10

I would panic like you and get stressed reading forums and after about 20 flights I just thought, this is an urban myth of some kind...

I have all our docs in a secure online location with notarised copies with them online so if someone ever wanted to see anything they could (as I said- I'm also a panicker!) and have never had to use my clever idea 😂

OHFUCKCRAP · 10/09/2023 20:10

Thank you everyone I feel calmer now!

OP posts:
Sunshineclouds11 · 10/09/2023 20:11

Have you cut it yet 😂

Justkeepingplatesspinning · 10/09/2023 20:11

We went abroad several times with our girls, so mum and stepmum, and we had three different surnames between us. Noone ever questioned whether they were with mum or a random stranger. We only ever had their passports, nothing from their dad and definitely nothing like birth certificates!
It should be fine even if it's laminated. Have a great holiday and don't worry!

jolaylasofia · 10/09/2023 20:11

i've not got same name as my 3 children. eldest is 15 and never once been asked for a birth certificate. i fly 3 times a year. i've been asked coming back in who i am to the children and they ask the kids who i am. i had a photo of their birth certificate and showed them and they were fine with it

mynamechangemyrules · 10/09/2023 20:11

Also- the countries of my children's births laminates their birth certs for you! So you can't tamper with them... seems logical to me so forgive your stepdad!

Redmat · 10/09/2023 20:12

I spend alot of time re laminating things because the seals wear out. Cut the edge.

OHFUCKCRAP · 10/09/2023 20:12

@Sunshineclouds11 no can you come and do it 😂😂

OP posts:
OHFUCKCRAP · 10/09/2023 20:13

@Redmat the corner edge? The long edge? 😂😂 I’ve lost all brain cells. Please can i have a step by step
