If govt disclosed aliens visiting earth, would society break down?

Idly wondering what would happen if a few governments around the world told their people they had evidence of aliens visiting us.

How do you think people would behave? Do you think humankind is ready for that next level in intergalactic relations?

I think they are building up to admitting aliens exist . What will happen to religion then if aliens say no god.

Why would aliens know more about God than us? Perhaps they'd come here to ask us about him. We're aliens too, you know. From waaaaay up in space as far as they are concerned.

Or more likely they would just be tiny little crawlies that landed here accidentally on bits of comet, who knew as much as bacteria do about god.

What type of aliens are you imagining op? Other worldly bacteria found on a comet, or green science fiction type aliens? Highly intelligent but the size of ladybirds? I once read a story about aliens who flew here, unbeknown to us, landed, and were just about to leave their space craft , when a dog nipped over and ate it all up!

There's a similar Arthur C Clarke story where the aliens emerge from their football size craft and someone pours boiling water on them, mistaking them for insects.

There's no reason why aliens should be on the same size scale as us or even that their scales of time should be similar.

Our galaxy might be contained within a speck of dust on an alien carpet, waiting for them to hoover tomorrow, but their 'tomorrow' is a trillion years to us.

It's just a matter of time before we colonise Mars then start travelling across space and time.

This is the most annoying thing about death. We won't get to watch the story play out. It's like reading a book with the last pages ripped out.

I really want to see this. Maybe Elon Musk will have been declared Moses... leading the believers to Mars!

IF Earth is being visited by Extra-terrestrials, and despite all the shenanigans at the Congressional hearings there is still been nothing substantive whatsoever produced to suggest that is the case, then it's undoubtedly the case that they have developed interdimensional travel, because they are not travelling here in the conventional sense of A-to-B given that would require thousands of years.

Again, people still seem to be leaping to the mistaken conclusion that admission of the existence of UFO's is the same thing as admitting to the existence of ET visitors, when it is no such thing.

Grusch has not produced anything whatsoever to substantiate his wild claims that the US possesses ET tech and organic remains, and nor is he claiming anything that wasn't also claimed by Bob Lazar decades ago. At this point, he has no more credibility that the most outlandish conspiracy peddlers going, so he really shouldn't be taken seriously until such time he does produce some sort of evidence.

This. I've been watching documentaries on UFOs and aliens for years. I've watched Bob Lazar and many ex military people discuss all the things they have apparently seen and believe to be true. Nothing mentioned recently is particularly new. The difference is the people saying it all before were laughed at. I was laughed at by friends when I told them I enjoyed watching the programms about them. I'm not a weird conspiracy theorist either. I just genuinely find the possibility of aliens interesting. I've watched many things about Bob Lazar, Roswell, Rendlesham Forest etc, the pheonix lights, and documentaries about theories on various ancient structures and things that have been found that can't be explained well. The mayans and the sumerians. Programmes comparing religions to aliens. Do I believe it all? Of course not. Much of it is nonsense. I just enjoy it like I enjoy watching general films and TV. But what I'm saying is most of this isn't new if you've watched as much alien related rubbish as I have. No one has confirmed the existence of aliens. All they have done is bring a lot of the stories to a different setting and given them more public airing. Those people have likely told those stories before and everyone just laughed at them.

Yup, but I still think it's very interesting even if it boils down to that!

More fun if we were able to meet the aliens and have some version of communication and reciprocal relationship.

A cultural exchange Smile

Of course it isn't new. Who thinks it is?

What IS new on the other hand, is US Congress hearings about it.

Indeed - the narrative has consisted of institutional gas-lighting for so long…. It’s a weather balloon, it’s a weather anomaly, you were drunk, stoned or a nut…. And then Congress has a hearing? Hmmmm. What ARE they up to ? TPTB I mean, not the “aliens”…. Although if they exist I would like to know what they’re up to as well lol.

Notice how microchips came along out of nowhere in the 60s and 70s. I definitely think they were a gift from aliens or taken from their ships. Especially as they’re made just out of sand.

Microchips did not 'come along out of nowhere'. The first integrated chips were the result of several concepts and ideas developed over years, ideas that pushed the development of the silicon tech that enabled the concepts to be put into practice. The notion of integrated circuits came from a desire to develop something faster and more efficient than vacuum tubes and transistors.

Claiming the microchip 'came along out of nowhere' is akin to claiming that jet aircraft 'came along out of nowhere' in the 1940's while completely denying the hot air balloons, gliders, and propeller driven aircraft that predated them.

I love the concept, which I first heard about on the TV show Stargate, that we will only be told about and meet the advanced alien civilisations once humanity is ready to do so and can be responsible about learning from them. Otherwise we'd destroy ourselves from enjoying the tech too much.

A bit like if we provided cavemen with access to modern levels of booze, guns, sugar, vehicles etc. It'd be mayhem and they'd probably wipe themselves out.

Actually Star Trek's Prime Directive did that idea first ....

But the Stargate version didn't work out so well...the Aschen vaccine?

Cooperativebox · 12/09/2023 11:37

Yeah, @Ascendant15 your username is very appropriate for this topic 😁 I don't watch much sci-fi except I was obsessed with Stargate as a kid; I'm not surprised it was a Trekkie idea originally.

Yup. I'm with Hawking

Berlinlover · 12/09/2023 11:44

Well if the hysteria over Covid is anything to go by the public would completely lose their minds if aliens invaded the earth.

Superlegs · 12/09/2023 11:48

I don’t believe anything this government say, so wouldn’t be surprised if they announced alien race to see how far they could push their electorate before revealing the earth was flat.

FixTheBone · 12/09/2023 12:05

Best thing that could happen in my opinion.

In one fell swoop, human infighting looks extremely petty and shortsighted. Fighting over land and resources is suddenly redundant because we will know that it is possible to travel to other places.

Religion becomes moot, either way - they either explain that they are god i.e. created life on earth, that they have seen or met god, in which case they can tell us which one is correct, or, that they've found no evidence of god despite millenia of searching.

Potentially they would bring new technologies that enable huge advances in energy, food and healthcare, again, reducing the need for conflict and competition.

GoodOldEmmaNess · 12/09/2023 13:24

And, even better, they might bring some sort of bacteria (or the other-planet equivalant of bacteria) that wipes us all out. We have rather blown it, as a species, and it might be a nice reset if we get eliminated.

Neverinamonthofsundays · 12/09/2023 15:23

I thought Trump being in power made it fairly obvious to be honest.

@MistressoftheDarkSide ooooh just catching up on this thread. I love your original post. Do you have a link to the group you mentioned? Apologies if it’s up on here already. I may have got too excited and hit reply before reading the rest of the thread.

Interesting news on BBC this morning about possible life on another planet guys. Just initial thinking from findings at the moment it seems.

Ridemeginger · 13/09/2023 09:24

All the military needs to do to repel aliens is have them spend an hour watching Tik Tok. They'll be flying on by.
