If govt disclosed aliens visiting earth, would society break down?

Idly wondering what would happen if a few governments around the world told their people they had evidence of aliens visiting us.

If our Government said it, I wouldn't believe it. Just like I didn't believe they'd build a bridge to Ireland or 40 new hospitals.

If I got evidence I expect I'd be really intrigued. They've not done us any harm so I can't see a reason to be scared.

What type of aliens are you imagining op? Other worldly bacteria found on a comet, or green science fiction type aliens? Highly intelligent but the size of ladybirds? I once read a story about aliens who flew here, unbeknown to us, landed, and were just about to leave their space craft , when a dog nipped over and ate it all up!

I wish I knew how to link 'Infographics' from YouTube, they do brilliant videos on this kind of stuff. I would hope the government would keep it to themselves, because aliens that made it here would be far smarter than so there's nothing we could do about it anyway - except panic.

i heard an odd interstellarish theory that aliens may just be us/humans millions of years in the future travelling back via space/time. i quite like that idea so hope they won’t exterminate us. Also, i’ve heard several conservative preachers (red pill type guys) say that aliens are demons manifesting as aliens to cause spiritual confusion. I think certain factions will take up this viewpoint or just go the full conspiracy route and deny they have arrived or it’s all fake news. I’m fairly religious myself and wonder how my faith would hold up quite often as also I love all things space, science and maths. I suppose it depends on the context of how they arrive or what they are. Aliens may have faith systems if their own they can’t wait to ask us about 😂 Though
i suspect they may ultimately not know either. They would obviously have a greater understanding of science and universe origins/dimensions etc but that may bring more questions we can’t comprehend. I’d still love and fear the day they make contact somehow though 😆

The government would find a way to tax them if they landed here. Local councils would issue them with parking tickets and they'd be forced to accept store cards if they ventured inside any shops.

Their craft would also be forcibly fitted with a heat pump and carbon monitoring equipment.

They'd soon be quick to leave, shaking their heads and thinking they'd had a narrow escape tbh.

There’s way too much shit going on for people to even care I think at the moment. As PP’s have said the US did pretty much announce it a few months back but no one really took any notice. I think at any other time they may have done but inflation is out of control and noone can afford their fucking mortgages or to eat at the moment so aliens are literally last on the list of concerns 🥰

I think it's clear that that we are not alone. It's not really a surprise is it? We are probably quite backward in comparison.

I've always liked the theory that the stereotypical little grey aliens are humans from the future come back in time.

Some shit happened, like global nuclear war or a meteor and forced people to live underground. After thousands of years they end up with huge eyes and grey skin as no sunlight, and get shorter due to living in caves.

Although many think WE are the actual aliens on this planet or rather our ancestors came to earth and dropped some DNA in the evolution chain because modern man turned up suddenly with their big brains and the Neanderthals died out.

I doubt it- have you seen how we welcome people from other countries, let alone other solar systems? The Mail will start a campaign to convince everyone that the aliens have come for our jobs, women, and benefits. "Why didn't they stop at the first safe planet they came to?"

The universe is so massive I think it would be odder if there wasn’t some other form of life out there and we’re the only ones. It’s absolutely blown my mind trying to explain space to my children and how absolutely tiny our solar system is.
