Idly wondering what would happen if a few governments around the world told their people they had evidence of aliens visiting us.

How do you think people would behave? Do you think humankind is ready for that next level in intergalactic relations?

It's just a matter of time before we colonise Mars then start travelling across space and time.

This is the most annoying thing about death. We won't get to watch the story play out. It's like reading a book with the last pages ripped out.

DynamicK · 09/09/2023 23:22

This is very true @MaryLivingOnDreamsAndCustardCreams and my sentiments exactly.
The only hope is if all the ideas about life after death has some truth to it too.

MaryLivingOnDreamsAndCustardCreams · 09/09/2023 23:36

@DynamicK I don't usually believe in anything after but if death means we stop being the actors and get to sit in the audience instead and watch it all play out I think I could 'live' with that 😂

Mummyratbag · 09/09/2023 23:38

I doubt there would be a big headline "aliens found in Swindon" more a drip drip drip and if there was I would wonder what other news they were burying!

RocketIceLollie · 09/09/2023 23:43

Of course it would. People already loot, don't respect authority or democracy as it is let alone something like that tipping people over the edge.

Calistano · 09/09/2023 23:43

Mn is pretty based lately Grin is heartening

I think it's interesting that UFO sightings really took off in the 40s and 50s, just as the Cold War was beginning.
Either aliens gave us technology then, or our time-travelling descendants (travelling into their past to the 1940s) fiddled with the timeline to ensure we didn't blow ourselves up with nuclear war.

It's also the exact moment where there was an explosion in B-movie and 'flying saucer' culture. One feeds the other.

Look at a map of all reported UFO and alien encounters. It's no coincidence that the bulk are in places which spawn and lap-up comic book and Sci-fi stories.

The old trope of 'funny how the alien invasion always takes place in the US' is absolutely on the button.

Hawkins0009 · 10/09/2023 00:38

Potentially, yes.
Then all the religions will need rewriting.

Overall humanity should rule the galaxies but until then we need to build the empire.

Pleaseme · 10/09/2023 00:42

It'll be fine, I have a towel and can visualise do not panic in friendly pink letters if needs be.

Seriously guys...where's this edit function

Top right of your post are three dots. Edit is the bottom function.

billyt · 10/09/2023 09:30

Can you imagine if aliens came to the UK and said 'take us to your leader'?

Now wouldn't that be embarrassing? Grin

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 10/09/2023 09:44

@billyt Just give the leaders a colouring book and crayons to keep them occupied. I’ll take over and talk to the aliens 😁

SunshineDaisiesButterMellowxx · 10/09/2023 09:51

Haven't read full threads but tbh, I'd probably beg them to take me with them. Not a fan of this world right now, be interesting to see what other civilisations the universe holds 😂

Picturethat · 10/09/2023 10:25

Society is already breaking down. Beam me up Scotty. Aliens can only be an improvement. My DS is convinced we're all in a game. Too much YouTube Grin

In 2013 a mission was launched to send humans to live on Mars this year. They would hand pick certain people after several psychological tests and depending on what skills they could offer as the trip was one way only.

It hasn't happened yet as they discovered that Mars isn't suitable for humans to just go and live on because of the conditions there.

I should not have opened this thread at night! Turns out I do find it terrifying. Oops.

Ha ha. I've had a fascination with the possibility of extra-terrestrial life since I was a teenager, but as I get older, I become more terrified of things like that. After the Congress hearing, at the age of 40, I was too scared to get up to go to the toilet in the middle of the night because I kept picturing little green men standing at the top of the stairs 🤣

MistressoftheDarkSide · 10/09/2023 19:27

I’m also in the time travel camp.

It’s possible there is evidence out there - like the story about the fossilised ring watch found during some dig or another, and the mechanism found on a ship wreck that is anomalously sophisticated for its age - a lot of debunking goes on but I think if time travel has been invented in the future, the possibilities are endless.

The Congress hearings touched on hyper dimensional theories …

We perceive time as linear, but there have been loads of films touching on time travel recently, like Interstellar. I used to be on the now defunct Synchromysticism forum which had a lot of theory about how films and media can foreshadow things via the collective subconscious and also by design when we’re being softened up to accept ideas via fiction…. Art imitating life and vice Versa.

Not explaining it very well and it sounds like all stripes of batshittery I know. However every single thing we encounter starts as a thought from somewhere and usually it’s subconsciously prompted by something we resonate with and translate into a new idea…..

All that said, I treat it lightly and have popcorn laid in.

im more inclined to think that governments might use partial intel as leverage for control and profiteering, but the pandemic has made me inordinately cynical.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 10/09/2023 19:46

What will happen to religion then if aliens say no god.

Why would aliens know any better than we do whether there is a god?

so in summary, hollywood give use eg star trek, stargate etc so that as and when humanity are always awake to the prospects?

DontLeanOnTheKeyboard · 10/09/2023 19:50

Half the UK would class them as illegal immigrants and demand they ‘go back to where they came from’

💥💥💥💥I would like to be the alien 👽👽👽👽

MistressoftheDarkSide · 10/09/2023 19:52

@Hawkins0009

That is the theory in some circles….

I find it fascinating especially as rapidly advancing technology keeps us plugged in to everything these days. I have a lot of interest in it all but as I say, I treat it lightly- any other approach veers into madness territory- although in this day and age sanity and madness are hard to tell apart sometimes 😹

Interesting!

I'd actually not heard of the future humans theory before reading this thread, but it makes a lot of sense(!)

Also do you have a link or any other information about the fossilised ring watch? Just tried a quick Google, but just came up with ring watches made by Fossil 😅

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/09/2023 20:07

I just can't imagine why they would bother with a back water like our solar system in the back water galaxy we're located in

You mean our utterly insignificant little blue-green planet at the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the galaxy?
I'll add that I hope they won't be coming to demolish us for a hyperspace bypass, then admit you have to be a certain age to get those references Grin

Seriously though, why would people be frightened? You'd hope than any life forms intelligent enough to get here in the first place would have moved beyond violence and be motivated more by curiosity
