If govt disclosed aliens visiting earth, would society break down?

Idly wondering what would happen if a few governments around the world told their people they had evidence of aliens visiting us.

How do you think people would behave? Do you think humankind is ready for that next level in intergalactic relations?

And to celebrate his life, when he died they sent his voice into space... towards the nearest black hole. No one listens do they

Well, let's hope not eh.

Presil · 09/09/2023 21:09

Anyway there wasn't a great deal of fuss/attention for those congress hearings about the aliens. Everyone went back to talking about trump and what they're having for tea.

YouLando · 09/09/2023 21:13

I'm hoping for a visit from some friendly Vulcans in a Star Trek First Contact stylee, and then the United Federation of Planets.

Redlarge · 09/09/2023 21:15

I hope the aliens are hansome and charming, im yet to meet a partner here who is. Ill get on that ship..

I mean. Yes there is apathy because as pointed out, people are weary and ground down trying to survive the day to day.

But I don't think it's quite true to say there wasn't much attention paid to the congress hearings. I think the details were quite vague at this point, but if declassification means real disclosure of concrete details of non human intelligence - I think more people will engage with it.

If they landed in America, probably.

If they landed in Britain, we would just put the kettle on, offer them a nice chocolate biscuit, ask if they have come far and chat about the awful interplanetary traffic around Uranus & Neptune.

Probably have a nice little chat about the weather on Venus as well..

DynamicK · 09/09/2023 21:23

Maybe we're the aliens. Descendants of visitors from the Sirius star system.
After all, dont most pyramids align with Sirius or something?

If aliens do exist, I'm certain a 10 year old boy on a bike will be the first to find them and not NASA or the like.

Would love it to be time travellers from the future.

Although time travel always muddles my brain I mean it sucks if we can find out bad shit that's going to happen but not change it by doing something differently, I don't want to accept that Grin

The whistleblower has hinted at "them" being from other dimensions.

IF Earth is being visited by Extra-terrestrials, and despite all the shenanigans at the Congressional hearings there is still been nothing substantive whatsoever produced to suggest that is the case, then it's undoubtedly the case that they have developed interdimensional travel, because they are not travelling here in the conventional sense of A-to-B given that would require thousands of years.

Again, people still seem to be leaping to the mistaken conclusion that admission of the existence of UFO's is the same thing as admitting to the existence of ET visitors, when it is no such thing.

Grusch has not produced anything whatsoever to substantiate his wild claims that the US possesses ET tech and organic remains, and nor is he claiming anything that wasn't also claimed by Bob Lazar decades ago. At this point, he has no more credibility that the most outlandish conspiracy peddlers going, so he really shouldn't be taken seriously until such time he does produce some sort of evidence.

Gettingbysomehow · 09/09/2023 21:41

I very much doubt it, nobody wants to live in that kind of society with rampaging, looting and killing, well maybe the odd few.

Nobody WANTS to live that way, I agree.

But fear and worry make people behave differently. Look at the spats over loo roll during covid, some of that got pretty mean!

I'm hoping for intelligent, generous, and kind aliens. I will back them in their quest to conquer Earth and rule us for our own sakes. Looking at our current leaders, aliens are our only hope.

StoneTheCrone · 09/09/2023 22:04

I gather that the US Government has six months to counter the claims made by Grusch and produce the evidence requested. It's all very odd.

Ididivfama · 09/09/2023 22:06

I should not have opened this thread at night! Turns out I do find it terrifying. Oops.

Cooperativebox · 09/09/2023 22:09

I think it's interesting that UFO sightings really took off in the 40s and 50s, just as the Cold War was beginning.
Either aliens gave us technology then, or our time-travelling descendants (travelling into their past to the 1940s) fiddled with the timeline to ensure we didn't blow ourselves up with nuclear war.

No chance. They'll either want our resources or we're their science project.

Exactly this. The universe is so massively, ridiculously, unfathomably vast that the only way intergalactic travel is feasible is by bending time/space so that two disparate points meet and create the fabled wormhole. This kind of technology is (according to Stephen Hawking) possible but would be (will be... is....) massively power hungry. Aliens that can travel this way would be harnessing power in a way that is unimaginable. And I just can't imagine why they would bother with a back water like our solar system in the back water galaxy we're located in.

TheOutlaws · 09/09/2023 22:10

I’m not very woo but if anyone ever asks me if I believe that aliens were living amongst us, I always point them in the direction of Prince (RIP).

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 09/09/2023 22:11

I don’t think we can handle it as a species who seem to love being in power over other species. I think there would be mass panic and for now it’s best we are not told.

Broadcasting noise into space is basically a giant dinner bell of “we’re here! Stew is ready!”

VeloVixen · 09/09/2023 22:13

Yeah apparently numerous top notch scientists inc I think Einstein talked about how a 5th dimension is possible and that the portal might be 10cm big!

DynamicK · 09/09/2023 22:14

It's pretty scary that all this fictional technology is becoming reality. Mobile phones, video calling, watches that you can communicate through your watch, AI assistants that talk to you, drones, robots.
It's just a matter of time before we colonise Mars then start travelling across space and time.

DynamicK · 09/09/2023 22:16

Apologies for garbled sentence.

But technological advance is always exponential, and wars drive technological advances. The US spent phenomenal amounts of dollars and manpower during the cold War, and were very secretive about their capabilities. I'd bet good money that the ufo sightings at this time (and all ufo sightings tbh) can be explained by Joe public seeing either natural phenomenon or experimental aircraft.

Christ, I hope their space ships are ULEZ compliant 😳
