Yes.

Probably best not to diagnose people on the internet either.

Did you mean this for a different poster? I haven't diagnosed anyone, as you say that would be daft

I was saying that until recently I was unaware that d and v was a COVID symptom but there are enough reports for me to now know this.

Yes it was meant for several other posters, not you necessarily

dressedforcomfort · 09/09/2023 13:12

Is she any better, OP? Has/is the wedding going ahead? Keeping everything crossed.

Am glad you are not going tonight OP. I also have emetophobia so know how anxious you must feel about the situation.
I am interested in the fact you can be vaccinated against Norovirus in America ? I always thought you could not vaccinate against it and if there is one, why can’t we have it here ? Would save a lot of heartache for the elderly especially and all those who care for them and schools and nurseries too !

There’s a vaccine for noro?? I’m another emetophobe, such a horrible phobia

sydneyinsummer · 09/09/2023 18:07

I can’t believe people on here are still banging on about covid. I’d genuinely be more worried about catching a stomach bug than covid anyway!

SarahSays1 · 09/09/2023 18:13

Please tell me she tested for covid. There's a lot around again.

SleepyJim · 09/09/2023 18:20

What was the outcome @Rewinder Did the wedding go ahead?!

EyesEars · 09/09/2023 18:29

How has it gone OP?

SittingHereInLimbo · 09/09/2023 18:31

Covid is not "just another virus"; even if you have "mild" covid and don't appear to get long covid, it can cause long-term or permanent damage to numerous organs and systems. It can cause strokes, heart attacks, revive other, dormant viruses, cause brain damage, speed up the progress of cancer and autoimmune illnesses...It would be massively irresponsible for someone to risk infecting children, elderly people or indeed anyone else at all by not testing and then isolating until they test negative. That would be what 'learning to live with it" means—along with masking, and purifying air if you must be indoors with numerous other people.

Since when is D & V a symptom of COVID?

'COVID' has had many different variants over course of the pandemic. Symptoms can vary with each one.

Tiredchicken · 09/09/2023 18:37

Yes.
my husband who is normally fit and well-ended up in CCU. apparently we also all have Increased risk of death for two years after covid even if it was mild because of impact on cardiovascular system.
it’s not something that we should just “accept” can’t be avoided.

my friends husband (a marathon runner) still can’t walk upstairs without breathlessness two years on.
yes most of us get it mild but you don’t know who will be affected and it’s okay to want to avoid infecting people and with it.

linsey2581 · 09/09/2023 18:39

@AussieManque As a former covid nurse who swabbed god only knows how many people for nearly 3 years you do not swab the inside of the cheeks. It is the back of the throat then the nose for a PCR (which she won’t do as that has to be sent to a lab). An LFT only requires a swab to both nostrils.

Rockandchips · 09/09/2023 18:43

I was in marks this morning and this woman was standing on top of me in the queue and I said to the lady on the till that people forget that covid is still around. She said that she knows 2 people that have died recently from the affects of covid. People just get sloppy.

I had to look this up as we are advised to do nose and throat for RAT's here in Canada.

'Combining a nasal swab with a throat swab might improve the sensitivity of rapid antigen tests'

NHS

And as you've clarified, it's the back of the throat, not the cheek, that gets swabbed.

The Debate Over Whether to Swab the Throat When Testing for SARS-CoV-2

This Medical News article discusses whether swabbing both the nose and the throat might improve the sensitivity of rapid antigen COVID-19 tests.

Since when is D & V a symptom of COVID?

It is one of the most common symptoms!

PressedPetal · 09/09/2023 19:16

So sorry to hear that :(@msbevvy I was also hospitalised whilst heavily pregnant with Covid due to D&V ! They said it was more common that I’d think! I knew I had it but it was my only symptom with fatigue. Hope the wedding went ok OP!

Same here.

Darkdiamond · 09/09/2023 19:42

I've literally just had covid (only negative this morning) and I'd diarrhea.

ihadamarveloustime · 09/09/2023 19:42

Hope today went ok

Anything is a symptom of Covid on Mumsnet. Tell posters your leg has just fallen off and someone will insist on you testing.

Rockandchips · 09/09/2023 20:05

My DH had DandV when he had covid.

You are not correct. Had covid recently (testing confirmed) and d&v were present in us first three days. Apparently it always has been a symptom, but seems common in recent strains.

OP, I'd be cautious.

loulouljh · 09/09/2023 20:17

Why on earth are people still banging on about testing for covid??! If she is positive she is presumably/hopefully still going ahead with the wedding so its pointless! We don't test for flu, a cold. Utter madness. I hope she had a marvellous wedding.

ssd · 09/09/2023 20:17

Hope shes ok

Echobelly · 09/09/2023 20:30

Hopefully OP hasn't posted because wedding is happening. If it is D&V it could be over today - when I've had it quite often it's just 24 hours or less.
