reminds me of the film with Melissia McCarthy and the wedding party

There is a chance she could have covid, many people are presenting with D&V with covid. For the sake of everyone else attending the wedding, she should test (swabbing mouth - cheeks and throat - and nose) today and tomorrow.

Hopefully it's just a 24 hour thing, in which case you should avoid seeing her as long as possible to avoid getting infected just in time for the wedding!

This is what I keep saying but feel the lone voice (and mask!) in the wilderness ...

In the absence of their being any insurance in place, Pepto-Bismol is an amazing cure! I went out for a meal and managed to get food poisoning. I felt absolutely awful V&D plus awful headache. I was recommended to take Pepto-Bismol by a pharmacist - made a huge difference!

Pepto-Bismol is great. I also like charcoal tablets or biscuits, if you can find them.

I’ve bowed out of staying tonight. Childcare issues. I’ll just arrive early tomorrow instead

Because it means she knows and can avoid infecting everyone at her wedding?

People like you are the reason it's spreading so much again!

It's spreading so much again because it's a virus that's going to be around forever and now the world is expected to live with it, just like with other viruses.

Thanks for all the replies. As another PP said, I also have emetaphobia so the idea of a sleepover with someone who could potentially take me out, didn’t sit well with me at all!
she’s a very ‘ah well, it’s fine’ type of person so there’s no way she’ll cancel tonight or the actual wedding. The other bridesmaids don’t seem phased by it so will all still be there.
As others have said, if they all go down with it, the wedding will be screwed! What a nightmare. I know if I miss tonight, she won’t be happy

It's all good and well not caring about bugs etc, but this is how she's got in the situation where she could crap herself walking down the isle.

I'm also emetophobic and wouldn't be staying with her tonight. If it's noro chances are the other bridesmaids will be puking tomorrow too 🤢

How do you cope with emetophobia when your children are sick I am not judging you I have kids myself and what comes out of them when they are ready is enough to make me feel sick.

Carpediemmakeitcount · 08/09/2023 17:59

My son had COVID early last year and I was still give him hugs and kisses and I caught nothing. When it comes to vomiting I do tell the children to run to the toilet when they are about to. That doesn't always work and I have the pleasant job of clearing it up. My son was sick the other day because of the heat or he could have been nervous about going back to school. He's fine now.

Rewinder · 08/09/2023 18:23

Don’t cope very well at all really.

Since when is D & V a symptom of COVID?

FettleOfKish · 08/09/2023 18:32

If I'm getting the timing right (and assuming you're in the UK time zone) she messaged about 3am to say she was sick, but hasn't been sick since 3am? How long was she being sick before she messaged?

If it was a one-off incidence and she's been fine today I'd be writing it off as heat or nerves or something she'd eaten disagreeing with her and cracking on as planned, to be honest.

PeggyPiglet · 08/09/2023 19:40

Literally nobody I know who's had COVID (and that's pretty much everyone), adults at least, have had vomiting as a symptom.
It isn't a common symptom.

You know everyone that’s had Covid? And can speak for their symptoms? Remarkable.

Since when is D & V a symptom of COVID?

Me and my family had covid recently including d&v symptoms so did a couple of other families I know

It certainly was a symptom for my poor late MIL. She spent all Christmas with terrible D&V before being admitted to hospital with Covid and never coming out.

kerstina · 08/09/2023 20:58

Am glad you are not going tonight OP. I also have emetophobia so know how anxious you must feel about the situation.
I am interested in the fact you can be vaccinated against Norovirus in America ? I always thought you could not vaccinate against it and if there is one, why can’t we have it here ? Would save a lot of heartache for the elderly especially and all those who care for them and schools and nurseries too !

Greenshake · 08/09/2023 21:19

Keep us posted on tomorrow OP!

MadCatLady27 · 08/09/2023 21:27

This was my worst nightmare either for me or H to come down with it. And we did have insurance!

I'd try and let it pass through, my mum swears by lucozade when she has a stomach bug, if she's feeling better this evening a very small amount of very plain food eg dry crackers/dry toast

Sip regular water to keep her fluids up. Morning/early morning of I'd be cracking out the immodium. H got a stomach upset 2 nights before we were due to fly home from honeymoon. Fortunately he had the sense to stay on the sofa (fortunately I somehow slept through especially as I'm emetophobic! Not of being sick myself but if someone else is sick everything about it sends me into a panic)

I was terrified I'd get it for the flight home or he'd have it for a couple of days and not be able to fly, as pp advised I said not to take immodium until he had to e.g mid way through night of day we were due to fly and stick to very plain food

Fortunately it turned out it must just have been something he ate (he was adventurous trying all the buffet curries etc my fussiness kept me to pasta etc!)

Fingers crossed she's well enough for the wedding but can also properly enjoy her day and isn't feeling ropey

I googled it and there are no approved vaccines for norovirus 🤔
They are doing trials right now but the results don't sound that good to me.

PeggyPiglet · 09/09/2023 08:30

@blendedfamly @msbevvy @Aphotoaday I said it isn't a common symptom, not that it's impossible.

But of course, every symptom going now is presumed to be COVID.

It might just be, you know, a common stomach bug?

It's completely irrelevant if it's COVID or not, it's likely to be highly contagious regardless.

CateringPanic · 09/09/2023 09:32

Is the wedding going ahead as planned OP? Is anyone else unwell? I am also at a wedding today and very curious to see how this pans out!

Legale · 09/09/2023 09:39

We recently had covid and didn't realise until my mum mentioned symptoms had changed for newer strains! I had cold symptoms, a sore throat and a cough, DP had a headache and threw up a lot over one night. Kids had same as me, apart from one being sick just the one time. We thought we'd caught different bugs at the same time and were initially glad we didn't end up swapping over. 😂

Regardless of whether it is covid or another D&V virus, it's wise to keep a distance. I wouldn't be surprised if the rest of the bridesmaids come down with it now after the sleepover.

I dont know that many people who've had COVID so can't comment from personal experience but I've seen links on other threads that certainly suggest it's a thing

Possibly best not to judge medical issues based solely on people we know

Yes.

Probably best not to diagnose people on the internet either.
