I am fucking melting

I'm REALLY struggling in this heat. West Midlands.

I know we've barely had a summer and I know I should be enjoying this week but the amount I sweat is making me completely depressed. My hair is constantly wet, I have sweat running down my face as if it's raining, and I promise that is no exaggeration.

School run I could cry. It's so embarrassing being pouring of sweat, which then makes me sweat more I'm sure. It's nearly 1pm and the thought of the school run and being seen like this again is making tears come into my eyes.

Anyone who suffers from hair/face sweat, is there anything I can do?

I recommend getting a parasol, people may give you funny looks but it really helps. On holiday I one one which I attached a portable fan to which blew cool water which was amazing. Might take it on the school run today!

When inside keep all windows and blinds shut between 9am and 9pm, it really helps.

MissMillyFluff · 07/09/2023 14:22

... just don't go sitting on Jolemens fabric sofa 😁(other thread)

CaramelicedLatte · 07/09/2023 14:23

Fucking vile isn’t it? Baffles me what it is that people find ‘nice’ about it. It’s ruined our entire week - too hot to go out, especially with the dog. Get burnt even with cream on. Feel sweaty/sticky the whole time. Can’t sleep.

What are you summer people enjoying? Weirdos.

ManchesterLu · 07/09/2023 14:23

I normally love the hot weather but yesterday I sat outside all day reading my book, then went to the pub for a glass of wine and ended up passing out and I felt so embarassed.

I just did everything wrong though. Barely any water all day, drank a glass of wine before my tea, sat in a very very warm pub, and I'm on Sertraline so the effects of alcohol are increased anyway.

I feel like an idiot (although physically fine today) so I'm just going to sit quietly in my house, sipping water until winter arrives.

It's hell. Use an umbrella as a sunshade .

People will probably comment because people are arseholes, but it's quite a common sight in hotter parts of the world

I invested in a golf sun umbrella which is black -lined and has silver on the outside of the canopy to reflect away the sun's rays. It's been brilliant for walking in the sun. It can also be used as an ordinary umbrella

uncomfortablydumb53 · 07/09/2023 14:25

I'm exactly the same
29 here and I feel dizzy nauseous and drained No sleep or appetite and I can't even stomach coffee
I identify with the sweating too, My hair is literally dripping and sweat runs into my eyes
Since menopause I literally don't sweat or have body hair anywhere else!

butterpuffed · 07/09/2023 14:25

I have a VKUSRA [from Amazon currently on offer at £11.99] hand held powerful fan which can also be plugged into a laptop . Also bought two gel double cool pads which I stick in the fridge and use to sit on [!} and put in the bed at night .

Enjoyingthesedays · 07/09/2023 14:26

It is really hot, I'm not a fan of the very hot weather but I'm trying to just embrace it. Get the last few wears out of my Summer clothes. Hang out the washing.

It won't be like this for much longer, we will all be in our coats moaning that it's cold.

SockQueen · 07/09/2023 14:27

Solidarity with the sweaty crew! This weather is all very well for sitting by a pool with a cocktail, but not if you have to go anywhere or do anything. As for the "it'll be back to grey and rainy soon and then you'll complain" people - no I fucking won't. I can wear a raincoat. My face won't look like it's melting after every moderate exertion.

I've got the added bonus of having to do the school run THREE times a day this week, as DS2 is doing afternoon only settling in sessions for Reception, so I'm dropping off DS1 in the morning, then DS2 after lunch, then back to collect them both at 3:30.

The only tiny positive is that the days are shorter than if this were happening in June.

I am with you, it is too hot, but.

I love hanging out the washing and it's dry in no time
Feeling fab in dresses and shorts
Evening walks when it's cooled down a bit are gorgeous
An excuse for an ice cream

I think it's time that we made lace parasols fashionable again.

I endorse this message!

Sounds fun.

Chub rub shorts from Snag Tights have really helped me this year - I’m size 14 so ok not skinny but don’t think you don’t need them unless you’re very plus sized.

MrMucker · 07/09/2023 14:31

Dear anyone suggesting a parasol.
That's nuts! They are literally not an existing item in any shop anywhere.
Just use a brolly, which already exists.

I agree. I looked for some this year but the only niceish ones were mega bucks.

oh poor you. I feel your pain. I did this back in July...sat in the sun for 2 days whilst abroad on holiday (same heat as here today), didn't drink sufficient water but drank wine, walked in 30 degree heat for 15 mins and then passed out at the local restaurant in front of 5 family members. Embarrassing!!! But it's my own silly fault!

WholeWorldsPivot · 07/09/2023 14:33

@dontforgetme Hop on Amazon and look up ‘neck fans for women rechargeable’. I bought their top choice the other day for hot flushes but it’s come in handy this week anyway! Thoroughly recommend it.

It's the type of heat. Humidity is really high.

DWTKQHG · 07/09/2023 14:34

Fine here in Scotland. Warmer than normal for early September but the significantly earlier dusk (compared with June/July) means it cools down nicely before bedtime. Slight ground frost this morning before sunrise.. The September light in the northern latitudes is beautiful. much less harsh than high summer. I wish I could bottle these early autumn days to keep me going in midwinter when it's dark by 4pm.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 07/09/2023 14:34

@geraniumsanddaisies
Thank you for the recommendation!
I've never seen them before and have ordered two... one for my dog!

Gloopyhoop · 07/09/2023 14:37

I'm with you, also in the west mids. I'm 33 weeks pregnant too and I'm absolutely hating this. Even if I wasn't pregnant I'd still be miserable! Everything feels much worse hauling around a belly in the heat, im sweating in places I never knew possible

anunlikelyseahorse · 07/09/2023 14:37

I don't mind the heat, in fact I love a good dry heat, but the humidity is unbearable. It's grey and overcast here, but incredibly humid, and like you OP I'm sweating from every pore!

Newestname002 · 07/09/2023 14:37

I'm having a quiet lazy day, windows open, blinds half closed, container of water next to me so I can spritz a fine water mist over myself. On my sofa with a large towel under me plus I've run a lukewarm bath and get into it every now and then to cool myself off some more. Air dry with just a towelling short wrap around me.

It could be worse - I remember last winter with me wearing several layers of wool and fleece plus three pairs of fleecy socks in a man's sized fleece boots as I had no heating... 🌹

London. Just had to leave the office because its too hot and I actually threw up from the heat. Haven't slept since the weekend and my flat will not cool down. I feel like I'm going to pass out.

London here too. I absolutely loathe this weather. Praying for it to piss off and we can get on with autumn

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 07/09/2023 14:40

Also - I’m just trying to enjoy not being cold before the winter comes. Dressing for summer is quicker and easier and we don’t have to deal with rain yet…

dannyufcfan1 · 07/09/2023 14:40

If I was ever in the charge of this country I would pass a motion in parliament to stop any British person moaning about being too bloody hot in the summer.

Someone walked past my house yesterday with one in a gorgeous green colour. I have a very old paper parasol somewhere, must dig it out⛱️
