I am fucking melting

I'm REALLY struggling in this heat. West Midlands.

I know we've barely had a summer and I know I should be enjoying this week but the amount I sweat is making me completely depressed. My hair is constantly wet, I have sweat running down my face as if it's raining, and I promise that is no exaggeration.

School run I could cry. It's so embarrassing being pouring of sweat, which then makes me sweat more I'm sure. It's nearly 1pm and the thought of the school run and being seen like this again is making tears come into my eyes.

Anyone who suffers from hair/face sweat, is there anything I can do?

I hate the heat so am totally miserable. 29c is hell

Same!

Freshstarts23 · 07/09/2023 13:42

I would never describe 29 as a lovely day. It’s disgusting.
Im in London, it’s awful.

VeridicalVagabond · 07/09/2023 13:42

I'm a lizard and absolutely love the heat, but my poor husband is Norwegian and has been lying in a heap on the kitchen floor to try and cool off this week. I think he's shrunk he's sweating so much.

He wears a hikers water bladder strapped to his back filled with iced water to keep cool, has four of them on constant rotation out of the fridge, you can get them quite cheap off Amazon. Not sure if entirely practical for the school run though sadly!

Smoky1107 · 07/09/2023 13:42

I am struggling and have a migraine today. I need to go to London tomorrow and can guarantee the tube will be he'll at 5pm, then a main line train back to home which never has aircon.
I am looking fwd to it being cooler next week

OhYetAnotherBrickInTheWall · 07/09/2023 13:42

I am LOVING it after the crappy summer we've had. Grey skies be gone!

Itwasntmeguv · 07/09/2023 13:43

Do you drive, OP?

If so, and you have a car with aircon, my best tip is to go for a drive in the morning before it gets too hot and get yourself icy cold - the effects will see you through a few hours (repeat in the evening if necessary). I found this out entirely by accident when I wondered why some days I was melting, but others not so bad. I then realised I was cooler for most of the day when I'd been out in the car earlier.

And yes, I know it's not eco friendly to drive just for the sake of it, but sometimes needs are must!

sezzer87 · 07/09/2023 13:44

I'm not feeling it as I've just got back from Spain and some days it was 40c !
Trouble is in the uk it just hits us and we get no time to acclimatise.

TokyoSushi · 07/09/2023 13:44

It's hideous here too in Cheshire, it was so hot on the school run yesterday that I've decided not to do it today! (DD Yr6)

It was 36 last week in Spain, sun lounger, pool, ice cream - no problem. Apparently, it's 'only' 26 here, carpeted house, WFH, boiling!

TheLostNights · 07/09/2023 13:44

One of my colleagues said earlier today 'It's lovely isn't it?'
Unreal. How can anyone enjoy sweat pouring down them, oppressive air and that general exhaustion and sense of discomfort you get when it's this hot? London in particular is one of the worst places you can be in a heatwave.

Rockfordpeach · 07/09/2023 13:46

I hate the heat and our house is so miserable. My DS is up half the night crying because he's hot and refusing to go to bed which leaves me overwhelmed and tired and grumpy. I cried last night because he was still shouting and crying at 10pm and I just needed five minutes of quiet. Normally he happily goes to bed at 7

User135644 · 07/09/2023 13:47

The humidity last day or two was horrendous. I enjoyed a nice walk on Tuesday. Yesterday it was just too hot with the humidity.

BadHairBae · 07/09/2023 13:48

Yup. My house is currently 30°c. Me and poor DS are sweltering, it's alright for him though, he can roam around the house in just a nappy!

Rounee · 07/09/2023 13:49

Outdoors is fine.

But for some reason my workplace seems to capture the heat and keeps it in.

So it's like a sauna indoors. But cool and fresh outdoors. In the NW.

dontforgetme · 07/09/2023 13:49

Thank you so much for the recommendations and solidarity!

Have just ordered the Amazon link, although not being delivered til Monday Grin

Also ordered the cooling powder, that'll be here tomorrow thank fuck!

To the pp who asked if I drove. Yes I do but oh has the car for work unfortunately, otherwise that would have been a fantastic idea.

I usually couldn't care less what people think, but the sweating I just can't seem to have that mentality with!!

@dontforgetme Try using either talc or dry shampoo spray around your hair line, it’ll soak up excess moisture and prevent any from getting on your face.

Desecratedcoconut · 07/09/2023 13:51

My patch of the N.E. is 22c and a little overcast. It's my sweet spot, warm enough for summer clothes, not going to burn.

TerrorOwls · 07/09/2023 13:52

I couldn't be without fans. I have a small air cooler as well. I put ice in it and it keeps me cool while at me desk. Unfortunately it doesn't cool the whole room but great for working and on the dining table for meal times.

Nightsku · 07/09/2023 13:53

It’s 28 here.

I didn’t think it was that bad, it’s warm yes im not baking or even sweating.

Ginmonkeyagain · 07/09/2023 13:54

@Dinobooklover Your colleagues are insane. When will people learn - in hot weather you need to open windows very early in the morning then close all windows and blinds/curtains tight for the rest of the day until sundown.

We are in a flat in London and have followed this rigorously all week - still only 22 degrees inside.

Thestruggler · 07/09/2023 13:54

West Mids here too. Working from home today but I've had to put two fans on as my work room is in the sun most of the day. Feels like I lose all ability to function in the heat! On the plus side my water intake is up.

I don't know if it helps at all ( probably not) but I've just received a TfL message saying you can check which tube trains are air conditioned

Ginmonkeyagain · 07/09/2023 13:55

I generally love weather this warm but as it has come late in the year when it is damper (we are still getting the early autumn misty/dewy mornings), the humidity is a bit high for comfort - hence all the sweaty people!

LuckySantangelo35 · 07/09/2023 13:56

I’m loving it! It’s about time we had some hot weather.

summer has been shit - so now it’s heat lovers turn!

Smoky1107 · 07/09/2023 13:57

Abracadabra12345 I didn't know you could check! Thank you I'm off to plan tomorrows now 😊
