I'm REALLY struggling in this heat. West Midlands.

I know we've barely had a summer and I know I should be enjoying this week but the amount I sweat is making me completely depressed. My hair is constantly wet, I have sweat running down my face as if it's raining, and I promise that is no exaggeration.

School run I could cry. It's so embarrassing being pouring of sweat, which then makes me sweat more I'm sure. It's nearly 1pm and the thought of the school run and being seen like this again is making tears come into my eyes.

Anyone who suffers from hair/face sweat, is there anything I can do?

Have you tried those fans that go round your neck, its been a lifesaver for me (menopause}, tie hair up and carry a wet flannel to freshen you up just before you get anywhere. I do feel your pain😫

pennyfest · 07/09/2023 13:14

I like this weather when I don't have to do anything. Sit in the garden a bit, come back in to cool down, maybe put my feet in a nice cold pool.... Work, nope!

My face goes bright red as soon as I get just a bit too warm, I'm always being told I'm sunburnt but I'm not it's just my face!

Get yourself one of those fans with a water spray attached, it really helps!

Dinobooklover · 07/09/2023 13:15

London. Just had to leave the office because its too hot and I actually threw up from the heat. Haven't slept since the weekend and my flat will not cool down. I feel like I'm going to pass out.

JulianFawcettMP · 07/09/2023 13:15

You can get facial anti perspirant from Amazon (other places too no doubt). I tried to link above but it went wrong.

It's no miracle cure but I think it helps. I feel your sweaty pain.

Stripeypyjamas · 07/09/2023 13:17

I advise drinking a pint of water before the school run if you can.

MummyJ36 · 07/09/2023 13:20

I’m a northerner living in London (have done for nearly 20 years) and every summer I dread this kind of weather with a passion. I thought I’d gotten away with it this year and then this beast arrives!! I look a total mess on the school run and I’ve burned even though I’ve slapped on the suncream! I keep thinking I just need to get to Monday and then it will clear and I can start cracking out the Christmas jumpers (just kidding…sort of)

usernother · 07/09/2023 13:23

I'm v v sweaty and it is embarrassing. When the weather is v warm in this country I find keeping my hair tied up off my neck helps a bit. I wear loose clothing in dark colours, long dresses are the best. Always sandals, never trainers or my feet are squelching. Best thing is a hand held fan to use whilst waiting anywhere and always carry a tissue or something to mop my face.

29c is way to hot for some people. Me included.

So that's 84 Fahrenheit. Oh I don't envy you at all. I like it cloudy with a slight breeze. I can't stand the heat.

Agreed OP - I loathe this weather and struggle to understand anyone who enjoys it. It’s due to hit 32 degrees in London tomorrow. 😩

KimberleyClark · 07/09/2023 13:26

I’m hating this weather too, longing for cool fresh autumn weather. I hate feeling sweaty as soon as I step out of the shower and my face being sweaty when I put sun cream.

hylian · 07/09/2023 13:26

I hate the 'you should appreciate the hot weather whilst it lasts' thing.

I dislike hot weather, always have, it's sticky and uncomfortable, and we are only going to get more of it in future years.

I can't wait for it to cool off and in future, we will have more heat and will be appreciating the cooler weather whilst it lasts!

That's actually dangerous. I guess you've done all the shut blinds / curtains / windows as soon as it warms up and do the same thing in reverse when it begins to cool down? Hot water bottles with icy water or cooling mats for your feet and other tips given here? My dd also has a hot flat so I'm used to sharing hacks! Also a bottle or bowl of ice in front of a fan

I've had to come in from our shady garden because it's so damn hot. 30 degrees here, "feels like" 33.

Saturday is 32 feels like 37 apparently!!!

It's no different to the "oh you should snuggle under a cosy blanket with hot chocolate and lit candles" you get for the rest of the year.

Comedycook · 07/09/2023 13:28

The longer it continues the shorter autumn and winter will feel. Absolutely detest winter

MonumentalLentil · 07/09/2023 13:28

I have windows open until the sun moves round, also curtains closed with a gap for air to come through.

Live in a road where there are 5 houses being destroyed and rebuilt and for the last 3 weeks someone has been burning their waste, I have been out twice to work out which one it is but it calms down as soon as I go out.

It is disgusting and makes it more difficult to breathe than the equally foul heat. I don't want to be shut in an airless oven of a room because someone is illegally burning builder's and household waste. Burning the builders would please me though, might get some peace and quiet.

morknmindi · 07/09/2023 13:30

High humidity here.

Soak a tea towel under a cold water tap, wring out and wrist and place around your neck will instantly cool you down/

Invest in a neck fan which just looks like headphones and is inexpensive.

Anti perspirant on forehead and neck?

TerrorOwls · 07/09/2023 13:32

My friend walks around with an umbrella.

user9630721458 · 07/09/2023 13:32

Cold water on inside of elbows and behind knee caps cools you down quick. Can't remember why, but it works!

ShadyPaws · 07/09/2023 13:35

I worked in a metal cabin yesterday and was VERY grouchy when I got home
It seems a bit better today

I'm more vulnerable to heat stroke because of medication I take. Guess it's a side effect of that. I know its dangerous. Doesn't help that I'm also as pale as and have ginger hair.

My office is a hell hole. The blinds don't work, there's no aircon, no fans, and people insist on throwing the windows open. Guess if the blinds don't work it won't make a difference anyway.

No ac in my flat but yes, we keep curtains and windows closed during the day, and open at night. My flat is more comfortable than the office, but if I work from home it heats up quickly.

Cant wait for this to be over. I hate feeling like I cannot get cool.

AuraBora · 07/09/2023 13:35

I'm also dreading the school run. Totally sweat inducing standing in heat in concrete playground.

It's 31 here in SE and I'm starting with a tummy bug my DP has just had. Have had broken nights all week due to toddler not sleeping and yet I can't nap. Can't say I'm loving it...

TheLostNights · 07/09/2023 13:35

I'm in London and it's unbearable. Roll on next week.

Medusaismyhero · 07/09/2023 13:36

I swear by Snake Brand Prickly heat cooling powder - I chuck it all over and it gives a lovely cool feeling for a good 20-30 minutes, then repeat. It's also the dogs bits for actual prickly heat. As a menopausal old bag, I can't live without it. The 140g tins last ages and I've just discovered they've released a lavender one so I'm off to order it
