I am fucking melting

I'm REALLY struggling in this heat. West Midlands.

I know we've barely had a summer and I know I should be enjoying this week but the amount I sweat is making me completely depressed. My hair is constantly wet, I have sweat running down my face as if it's raining, and I promise that is no exaggeration.

School run I could cry. It's so embarrassing being pouring of sweat, which then makes me sweat more I'm sure. It's nearly 1pm and the thought of the school run and being seen like this again is making tears come into my eyes.

Anyone who suffers from hair/face sweat, is there anything I can do?

Didn't realise it was so hot up there. It's a lovely sunny day here (SE), about 29C which is perfect and really makes up for the crappy summer we've had, except for a couple of lovely weeks in June.

I'm all for 29 degree heat on my holidays when I'm in a bikini and able to cool.down by the pool but 29 degree heat when I have to go about my daily business - no.

RainCloudsInTheSky · 07/09/2023 13:57

Yes the mornings aren’t like summer. Can def tell autumn is in the air early morning. But by late morning it’s sweltering. Im
loving getting all my washing dried. Finding things I can wash. Today was cushion covers. Tomorrow is winter coats and Oodies.

Ginmonkeyagain · 07/09/2023 13:59

It pays to check as it can be a bit random. Same with suburban rail. The company that serve my nearest station - Southern - has air conditoned carriages but the company that serves a station a mile or so east of us (southeastern) doesn't.

Ginmonkeyagain · 07/09/2023 14:00

@RainCloudsInTheSky it is certainly good for drying - I have done the duvet, pillows and cotton rugs so far. Matress topper tonight! I'm so cool!

Upandonward · 07/09/2023 14:00

Also hating this humid, hot weather. I quite like heat but humidity absolutely not 🥵

Try liquid talc on wherever you sweat a lot - I have this one and lots of places stock it.

Cold water on inside of elbows and behind knee caps cools you down quick. Can't remember why, but it works!

Disagree. It does fuck all when your face and body are roasting.

John Lewis hand held fans are a life saver in this heat

It is like a furnace out there today. I haven’t been outside at all and usually I love the sun ☀️. Having a day off and lying on my bed at the moment.

blahblahblah1654 · 07/09/2023 14:04

It's over 30 in London. Very uncomfortable in the office but I'm enjoying the sunny weather considering the crap few months we had water wise. People moan either way.

Itwasntmeguv · 07/09/2023 14:06

This is my best friend. I've had it for 4 years and still it's going strong. It's quite a ferocious little beast when on full power and a single charge lasts ages.

It probably doesn't actually make me feel much cooler, but when you feel that familiar rush of heat starting on your face and head, I find standing and holding this in front of my nose is less embarrassing than having rivers of sweat pouring down my face!

It's called "my menopause fairy wand"!

I'm wfh in London in my terraced house loft conversion. It is 36 in the room, my arms keep sliding off the desk.

Summer sucks, I don't know why anyone ever enjoys it

Because it's warm, the sun is shining and it makes people happier. I love it. Hotter the better

SofiaSoFar · 07/09/2023 14:10

I'm pleased to see so many people agreeing that it's horrible!

I've never loved hot weather - 25c is my absolute maximum comfortable temp - but I always feel like I should be pleased when it's baking and oppressive.

And I can't believe how excited and enthusiastic weather forecasters (presenters) are on TV once it's unbearable. It's quite bizarre, really.

Londontown12 · 07/09/2023 14:11

Depending where u are in home or office ! Keeps all blinds close don’t let any direct light come in don’t open windows and have fans going everywhere my house is lovely and cool it’s 29 here East Midlands x

i was seating my arse off at 6am at the stables this morning! Same as yesterday and Tuesday!

Sheldoncoopersspot · 07/09/2023 14:13

I'm sat in the car and sweating so much my skin is sore.

Upsizer · 07/09/2023 14:14

I think it feels very odd. Overcast here today in the southwest but 30 degrees and 90% humidity. I’ve closed all the windows and put the dehumidifiers on

RainCloudsInTheSky · 07/09/2023 14:14

Oh really. I’ve been wondering where the promised sunshine is in the mornings! Doesn’t feel summery at all.

dontforgetme · 07/09/2023 13:04

29c is way to hot for some people. Me included.

It’s so weird to me how high temps have become normalised. (And yes we’ve not had a hot summer but that’s only because the jet stream has protected us.)

I remember going to the Maldives in 2000 for my honeymoon and the weather was stable there all year at 30/31. This was a complete novelty for me. The temperatures just didn’t get anywhere near that high in the uk, even in June and July.

It isn’t too bad in West Yorkshire ….very glad I’m no longer in the SE.

I swear by Snake Brand Prickly heat cooling powder - I chuck it all over and it gives a lovely cool feeling for a good 20-30 minutes, then repeat. It's also the dogs bits for actual prickly heat. As a menopausal old bag, I can't live without it. The 140g tins last ages and I've just discovered they've released a lavender one so I'm off to order it

Thank you so much for this - I’ve just ordered some!

user9630721458 · 07/09/2023 14:19

Maybe I'm getting old, but I feel like we don't get pleasant, sunny days anymore. A gentle breeze, a fresh, sunny day. Now it's torrential downpour, muggy heat or scorching sun, and none of it in the right season either. On the plus side, I'm getting washing dry and my old house is actually warm for once!

megletthesecond · 07/09/2023 14:19

29° in Hampshire. I've been for a walk in office clothes and my skin is dry. Going to have a cup of tea now.

I swear I'm a lizard.

I remember this as a child, my grandma looking at the thermometer and gasping that it had hit 80 Fahrenheit (as they used back then)!

I hate the heat too. Due on, fighting a migraine, on meds that mean I can’t regulate body temp. Just horrid.
