I am fucking melting

I'm REALLY struggling in this heat. West Midlands.

I know we've barely had a summer and I know I should be enjoying this week but the amount I sweat is making me completely depressed. My hair is constantly wet, I have sweat running down my face as if it's raining, and I promise that is no exaggeration.

School run I could cry. It's so embarrassing being pouring of sweat, which then makes me sweat more I'm sure. It's nearly 1pm and the thought of the school run and being seen like this again is making tears come into my eyes.

Anyone who suffers from hair/face sweat, is there anything I can do?

I am with you, it is too hot, but.

I love hanging out the washing and it's dry in no time
Feeling fab in dresses and shorts
Evening walks when it's cooled down a bit are gorgeous
An excuse for an ice cream

I’ll grant you that ice cream is always a perk. But I’ll eat that in winter too ;)

I also agree with the PP about ‘you’ll be moaning when it’s grey/raining/cold.’ No I won’t. It’s much preferable to me. I can take reasonable and cheap measures to warm up again. When it’s hot I’m just stuck being hot and looking like a sweaty mess.

Currently enjoying the school run, because I’ve brought the car. Air con is saving my sanity. And murdering the planet I know, but my car is probably a drop in the ocean comparably.

Cheer up....it's September..this is fantastic. It will soon be cold and miserable.

Exactly. I'm fully embracing this weather, its the last hurrah before the misery of winter starts.

I think it's time that we made lace parasols fashionable again.

I've been searching for a lace parasol for ages. I wear a hat but just makes me hotter.

italianpie · 07/09/2023 14:49

Very hot here and am similarly soaked at all times myself, wet hair and perspiration literally peeing out my face if I dare to get up and move about. I had to change out of my t-shirt after walking to the supermarket this morning it was so wet.

Not a fan of summer heat at all, as I am a naturally warm person all year round, autumn and winter is my time! Even as a child I'd come in from playing out to lie down in the shade with a wet flannel over my face. Global warming can bog off!

Ginmonkeyagain · 07/09/2023 14:50

Also uniqlo airism vests and pants - great as a thin base layer - they stop your other clothes getting all sweaty.

Augustus40 · 07/09/2023 14:50

29 degrees east midlands too today. Luckily nice and cool downstairs as the lounge is open plan and up in my bedroom is my pedestal fan I retrieved out of the shed this weekend!

Going through ice cubes like mad here in glasses of water.

pickledandpuzzled · 07/09/2023 14:50

I don't do well in the heat.

Top tip- cool wet scarf around your neck. It will dry before you get far, but I wet it as needed while I'm out. It's so efficient at cooling you down.

Also, dampen your hair. Again, it's very cooling, and makes the sweat dampness look deliberate Grin

If you have skin folds, you can get little cotton and fleece pads to sit in them to absorb perspiration.

If you wear undershorts under a skirt, don't wear underwear beneath. It's so much cooler with just the one layer.

I take a black golf umbrella out with me in case I end up somewhere with no shade.

Bringbackniles · 07/09/2023 14:57

I like sunny warm weather but not heat like this. I took my toddler out all morning but we've been watching TV for the last hour as its too hot in the garden, I've got a banging headache and no energy!

Feeling like a sweaty rubbish mum right now.

ReliantRobyn · 07/09/2023 14:59

Loving this heat! The hotter the better ! Wfh so make that ice lollies and pool in garden (with laptop on of course !) Enjoy it !

AngelicInnocent · 07/09/2023 15:00

Just a reminder to everyone that you need some salt as well as water to help keep you hydrated. People often forget that and just drink tons of water without it quenching their thirst.

GrimGrinningGhosts · 07/09/2023 15:00

My daughter chose today to move house….
whilst half of us are shifting furniture I’m barrowing three tonnes of fucking gravel into the back garden because the builders merchants dropped it on the wrong day. I am dying at this point.

himlah · 07/09/2023 15:01

Pregnant and currently dying... make the heat stop 😩

Mycatisthebestever · 07/09/2023 15:01

My H is driving me insane with sighing and going on about how it's too hot. 😖

WildFlowerBees · 07/09/2023 15:02

These are good, I use them around my neck and it does help along with fans, handheld and table top/floor.

I’m also midlands and it’s 33 degrees here. It is VILE

U2HasTheEdge · 07/09/2023 15:04

It's beautiful. I am gutted I have to work when it's like this though. Looks like it will still be hot at the weekend, so looking forward to that.

WholeWorldsPivot · 07/09/2023 15:11

@Upandonward thanks for the liquid talc recommendation - got some on the way now! 👌

JaneyGee · 07/09/2023 15:13

God, I flippin hate, hate, hate the heat. HATE it. I love the sunshine, but how anyone can enjoy this is beyond me. Thank god we didn't get it in July. My hometown in Essex is now so crowded, with so many houses and such awful traffic, that it makes these heatwaves even more misrable. The latest news on global warming is f-ing terrifying. I dread the future. I don't know what I will do if 40 degree summers become the norm.

UnctuousUnicorns · 07/09/2023 15:18

MelodiousThunk · 07/09/2023 13:03

Didn't realise it was so hot up there. It's a lovely sunny day here (SE), about 29C which is perfect and really makes up for the crappy summer we've had, except for a couple of lovely weeks in June.

29°C would kill me, any more than 24-25° and I'm flaking. Thank God I live in Scotland.

LyricalGangsta · 07/09/2023 15:21

Inside my workplace it's 37 degrees 😞

Hothotdamage · 07/09/2023 15:21

Lovely weather, nice to see some sun and a bit of heat. Hopefully get another week or so out of this .

FoxtrotOscarFoxtrotOscar · 07/09/2023 15:26

Run your wrists under cold water.
Wear something long, loose and floaty.
Stick on a wide-rimmed sunhat.
Lipstick optional.

I worked in a metal cabin yesterday and was VERY grouchy when I got home
It seems a bit better today

I work in one Monday-Friday, it's been hell. Today is worse here (NW), it's overcast and very, very humid, the last few days have been sunny and very hot but not sticky.

ShadyPaws · 07/09/2023 15:29

@Humidititties yeah I retract my "it seems better" I'm now stood outside grumpy at the people who keep closing the door
