I'm REALLY struggling in this heat. West Midlands.

I know we've barely had a summer and I know I should be enjoying this week but the amount I sweat is making me completely depressed. My hair is constantly wet, I have sweat running down my face as if it's raining, and I promise that is no exaggeration.

School run I could cry. It's so embarrassing being pouring of sweat, which then makes me sweat more I'm sure. It's nearly 1pm and the thought of the school run and being seen like this again is making tears come into my eyes.

Anyone who suffers from hair/face sweat, is there anything I can do?

@FOJN I don't get it either. I'm in SE also. I think, by the time the bricks, roof, curtains (closed) have all heated up, all you're doing is trapping the heat inside. I'd love to know how either ppl manage it. We were supposed to have a downpour earlier....we had a dribble...humidity now rising again. Fed up with it! WE WANT RAIN!

I've given up doing that in our loft room and just have the thermal blind down enough to block the sun and windows stay open

Getting much cooler now in se London....but it makes me emotional. Heatwave is over now... tomorrow is warm but not scorching then it's all downwards. Won't see 30 degrees for at least 8 months now😥

I can live without 30 degrees, but roll on March.

Smoky1107 · 10/09/2023 18:55

The humidity here in the south east has been high today, my daughter and I went shopping and it was uncomfortable. It had a few rain drops at 4ish but that's removed the humidity and it's very pleasant now!

Pandasandflowers · 10/09/2023 19:08

I remember a couple of years ago we were in a heatwave for a LONG time and everyone was dying for the rain. We all counted down the days to the rain and when it arrived, I stood outside in it. It was bloody glorious

I remember that! The grass was completely dried out in most places and I’ll admit I was worried some idiot would mindlessly toss their cigarette and we’d have a massive fire on our hands. Think I recall some areas did have fires including some near or on the train tracks.

I was in France in temperatures of 29-32c but because it was dry heat, it was liveable. Slept well with just a fan, going for 4-5 mile walks around 9am, no sweat!
Here on the other hand.

Agree about dry heat. Grew up with dry heat, 36c+ for weeks on end during the summer and it was bearable. This humid heat, definitely not.

@ShadyPaws I've been looking for proper info on flat cat. Does it work? I'm considering buying them for our new cat who has to be an indoor boy due to FIV.

Yes! My old cat turned out to not be FIV (long story) but I bought a couple and they're REALLY secure

bluewanda · 10/09/2023 22:46

The worst is behind us folks! Praise be!!! 😂

Honestly, the relief of knowing that this is almost certainly the last we will see of these ridiculous temperatures and humidity levels until May/June (?) next year is HUGE. I’m so happy.

bluewanda · 10/09/2023 22:52

I have to say, I also find it bizarre when people say they enjoy this level of heat in the UK - not only because it’s fucking sweaty and uncomfortable (as we’ve already discussed) but also because it’s actually very worrying in terms of climate change. Do people “living their best life” in these horrible temperatures not even consider that?

Babysharkdoodoodood · 10/09/2023 23:09

We had a bit of rain today. Then sun came out again and blurgh. Back to 28.

I had my online personal trainer today and it was grim. She's based in Scotland so a lot cooler. I couldn't grip my calf when lying down as every inch of me was covered in sweat so hands slipping off. Sweat marks on the mat dripping off my forehead. But at least everything was warm and loose before I started.

Apparently dropping to 16 tonight but still 24 in my bedroom according to my Meaco fan.

I remember this too. I walked around in it, it was wonderful.

I’ve just got back from the pub and there’s a heavy mist in the air (SE). The first thing I did when I got through the door was splash cold water in my face, bliss. I can’t wait for cold, clear days with pale blue skies and autumn leaves on the ground.

Bellabatwings · 11/09/2023 07:54

To the poster thinking of moving to Scotland…
The humidity is 92%, was 98% yesterday morning, i haven’t slept properly for a week, add to this the downpours of rain that do not make it feel any fresher, its like standing in the bathroom after a hot shower!
Then the midges come out!

Scotland is also affected by global warming, its never as cold as it used to be!

Ginmonkeyagain · 11/09/2023 08:16

@Darcy86 the sindows and curtians closed trick won't work forever - it's not a replacement for air conditioning. The key thing is you have to open all the windows late at night and again in early morning (6am or earlier) to let in the cooler air before you close everything again.

Smoky1107 · 11/09/2023 08:34

It doesn't feel any cooler this morning in the south east. I'm not well which is making it worse and I'm increasingly fed up of sweating 😓

piscofrisco · 11/09/2023 10:06

I reckon one more day of heat hellscape for us in the south east. Not too much longer to go

KMA2023 · 11/09/2023 10:14

The temperature is 18 degrees here in South Wales and feels wonderful.
After days of sweaty face and no sleep it's great.
For those still sweltering I think it should be cooler everywhere by tomorrow.

CyberCritical · 11/09/2023 10:50

There's an occasional breeze today here in the midlands, I'm sat next to the window sighing with relief

I'm disappointed at how warm it's staying during the week even if it's dropped from 30 degrees

SocialistSally · 11/09/2023 14:21

It hasn’t cooled down much in West Yorkshire. I mean it probably is a bit cooler, but I was hoping for cold and rainy 😂.

No sunny would be fine, but I need a break from the humidity and heat. Maybe 18-20 degrees.

JaneyGee · 11/09/2023 14:37

It's still vile here in Essex. I've been for a walk and am now sitting here drenched in sweat.

Tomorrow it's going to rain, thank god. So pleased to see the back of this, and to think it won't return until at least May. But, as someone above said, this is really flippin scary. I used to be a little skeptical about climate change, but something is going on. That 40 degree nightmare last year shook me to the core. It really did feel unnatural. And so does this. Christ, I woke up this morning at 3am and felt like my body was on fire. It shouldn't be boiling hot at night in the middle of September.

cushioncovers · 11/09/2023 17:30

Still 26 degrees in my bedroom but at least it's down from 29.

KimberleyClark · 11/09/2023 17:32

21 degrees here and much less humid than yesterday thank goodness. The heat was making me really anxious. Feel so much better today.

lollipoprainbow · 11/09/2023 17:40

Still too bloody hot !

Chickenkeev · 11/09/2023 18:07

A little bit cooler here now. And it's stopped raining. The babs is able to go call in for her friends at least.

Darcy86 · 11/09/2023 18:17

Yes still really quite warm here in the SE today, 25/26° but compared to the past few days it has felt like such a relief for me especially with a nice breeze. More than happy to settle for this, but equally ready for it to get even cooler now, I love autumn!

CyberCritical · 11/09/2023 19:20

And the utter bastard neighbours at the end of the garden have just lit a pile of rubbish on fire, so all the windows and doors have had to be closed.

I really hate people sometimes, especially when I'm sleep deprived and opening the windows this evening would cool down the bedrooms to sleeping temperatures.
