I'm REALLY struggling in this heat. West Midlands.

I know we've barely had a summer and I know I should be enjoying this week but the amount I sweat is making me completely depressed. My hair is constantly wet, I have sweat running down my face as if it's raining, and I promise that is no exaggeration.

School run I could cry. It's so embarrassing being pouring of sweat, which then makes me sweat more I'm sure. It's nearly 1pm and the thought of the school run and being seen like this again is making tears come into my eyes.

Anyone who suffers from hair/face sweat, is there anything I can do?

You had a range of answers.

No one likes extremes. I hated the extreme cold as that was frightening for driving.

Where I live we have now had 5 nights of tropical temperatures. That is not pleasant in a brick built home.

There are in betweens you know.

@Piggywaspushed

oh really? Thanks for that 😊

Smoky1107 · 10/09/2023 10:12

Lastnight in kent was very humid. I struggled and am grumpy this morning. We are in a loft room and the heat is horrible

DrinkingWineInBed · 10/09/2023 10:29

So loads of you love getting up in the cold and dark to de-ice your car! Who knew?!

@LuckySantangelo35 As people have explained, and what is obvious to anyone who isn’t weirdly aggressive on threads like you are, it’s not about de-icing a car, it’s that some people would prefer the cold to this heat. So who knew? Well, everyone that realises and accepts that people have different preferences of temperature/weather. Most people know that......And then there’s you. 🤷🏻‍♀️

GrimGrinningGhosts · 10/09/2023 10:32

I left Milton Keynes around eleven last night to drive home and the car showed 26 degrees. Drove through Staffordshire around one and it had dropped to twenty one but the roads were soaked so I think they had a good storm prior to me coming through.
So glad to get home to my as aircon unit though.

I think it's time that we made lace parasols fashionable again.

bluewanda · 10/09/2023 10:57

Struggling 😭 Good news though - the temp has dropped slightly to 26 tomorrow (it was originally going to be 27/28 I believe).

I wouldn’t say I love it but I prefer it to this

LuckySantangelo35 · 10/09/2023 12:12

Hopefully it will be a mild winter

HarryBlaster · 10/09/2023 12:14

My husband has this issue and we found that electrolyte tablets stop the sweating.

Ginmonkeyagain · 10/09/2023 12:18

If this becomes more normal then we will have to adjust our lives. Longer lunch breaks in summer, siestas in the afternoon, proper window shutters, better planting (esp trees) for shade, no extending in to the loft or basements without consideration of the heat in sumner etc..

Piggywaspushed · 10/09/2023 12:25

How does that work for people with jobs?

TheLostNights · 10/09/2023 12:26

I'm moving to Scotland if this continues. DH and I have had serious conversations about it. These hot weather extremes do seem to be getting more normal and more extreme. I don't want to waste my life worrying about it. These past few days and last years heat were absolutely vile. I am feeling really happy about it getting cooler by Tuesday. Will be nice to go back to feeling comfortable and to get a proper night's sleep.

Piggywaspushed · 10/09/2023 12:26

I like the planting bit though. We have a car park opposite us, quite new. Concrete everywhere.

50lessfat · 10/09/2023 12:28

Get a black Colton summer hat and wear a headband too this will hide the head sweat.

50lessfat · 10/09/2023 12:28

cotton

cakecoffeecakecoffee · 10/09/2023 12:30

I’m with you OP, I am awful in any heat, my body simply can’t tolerate it - especially my face, which sweats uncontrollably.

I like spring and autumn best when it can be sunny but not hot, even mild heat sends my body into a meltdown.

I’ve had blood tests to look at thyroid etc but nothing has been found.

mI’m definitely going to look at the neck fan - great suggestion.

Same. I don’t love it but I’d take it over heat any day.

MrsSlocombesCat · 10/09/2023 12:32

Me and my son live in an ‘eco’ house. It’s designed to keep heat in and is fantastic for winter but summer heat is always a nightmare. I bought a room thermometer for my bedroom, it’s at the front and gets the sun most of the day. Even opening the windows early and then closing them along with the blinds, the thermometer has read 30 -35 throughout the hot days and nights. I have to have a fan blowing right on me as I lie on top of the covers with nothing on. Even so I can feel sweat rolling down between my boobs when I lie on my side. Roll on tomorrow! Last night I said to my son I wish I could fall asleep and wake up on Monday!

I would love to move northwest or Scotland and I'll tell my adult children too. Unfortunately you need your dh to be onside which mine isn't plus we have a lot of ties here.

But in your shoes - go for it

Hope so. I hate snow and ice. I'd prefer it if it didn't rain all the time though.

Darcy86 · 10/09/2023 13:17

I tried the windows/curtains/blinds shut thing yesterday and went out, it didn't work...it was almost 32 degrees in my son's bedroom when I went in there at 7pm! I don't understand how it works for some people, maybe it's the area? I'm in the south east.

I quite like summery weather in general but am finding this too much and right now the thought of deicing my car is heaven 😂. I'm 31 weeks pregnant, husband working shift all weekend and trying to keep a 2.5yr old happy. I am very much done with it now! Just need to get through tonight and hopefully tomorrow will be a bit more bearable!

Figmentofmyimagination · 10/09/2023 13:19

Pack of frozen crumpets on the forehead is one good solution I discovered yesterday.

I think there are too many variables for the windows/blinds closed theory to hold in every circumstance. There is a reason greenhouses are hotter inside than out. Unless you have reflective foil on tiny windows and blinds with thermal lining then windows in full sun will still cause the room to heat up.

My bedroom reaches 40 degrees if I keep everything closed so I absolutely want the internal and external temps to equalise which is why I have the windows open and the blinds only halfway down.
