I am fucking melting

I'm REALLY struggling in this heat. West Midlands.

I know we've barely had a summer and I know I should be enjoying this week but the amount I sweat is making me completely depressed. My hair is constantly wet, I have sweat running down my face as if it's raining, and I promise that is no exaggeration.

School run I could cry. It's so embarrassing being pouring of sweat, which then makes me sweat more I'm sure. It's nearly 1pm and the thought of the school run and being seen like this again is making tears come into my eyes.

Anyone who suffers from hair/face sweat, is there anything I can do?

Me and my son live in an ‘eco’ house. It’s designed to keep heat in and is fantastic for winter but summer heat is always a nightmare. I bought a room thermometer for my bedroom, it’s at the front and gets the sun most of the day. Even opening the windows early and then closing them along with the blinds, the thermometer has read 30 -35 throughout the hot days and nights. I have to have a fan blowing right on me as I lie on top of the covers with nothing on. Even so I can feel sweat rolling down between my boobs when I lie on my side. Roll on tomorrow! Last night I said to my son I wish I could fall asleep and wake up on Monday!

I had a ceiling fan installed earlier in the year and it is absolutely brilliant. Thoroughly recommended! But go for a good quality make with a remote control.

Pandasandflowers · 10/09/2023 14:23

@bluewanda I know the feeling. I'm being asked why I'm lazing around the house, and I say, I'll get to that task next week! 😂 Lots of cold water, fans and shade and cold showers, which I'm sure everyone's doing anyway but just put yourself and your energy levels above everything else :)

Pandasandflowers · 10/09/2023 14:26

Bring on the winter, hot water bottles, furry blankets and cuppas

I'm moving to Scotland if this continues. DH and I have had serious conversations about it. These hot weather extremes do seem to be getting more normal and more extreme. I don't want to waste my life worrying about it. These past few days and last years heat were absolutely vile. I am feeling really happy about it getting cooler by Tuesday. Will be nice to go back to feeling comfortable and to get a proper night's sleep.

Already here, moved up 27 years ago from NW England. Temperature peaked at 26°C yesterday, which is warm for us.

pigsDOfly · 10/09/2023 15:07

It's suddenly gone quite overcast here. Selfish, I know but I'm hoping it's going to rain.

Our forecast is for lots of rain from the middle of next week and I must say I'm really quite excited about it.

I'll put on my raincoat and my wellies, dog will have her raincoat on and we will actually be able to go for a walk in the daytime. Bliss.

@ShadyPaws I've been looking for proper info on flat cat. Does it work? I'm considering buying them for our new cat who has to be an indoor boy due to FIV.

LuckySantangelo35 · 10/09/2023 15:35

@Pandasandflowers

Nooooo! No to cosy

Urgh this weather can do one. Seriously. I hate it so, so much. I don't even want to open the windows because of spider season, so I've been melting inside with the fans on.
It's supposed to be even hotter tomorrow where I am - 32 apparently 😩 I've been grumpy enough today!
I'm taking solace in the fact it will be Tuesday soon.

@MillenialAvocado im sure you know this but house spiders don’t come in from outside, they live in our houses all year but come out into the open during mating season. Most house spiders would not survive outside.

I'm not ill. I don't want to snuggle down and be cosy. I want to sit outside in the evening and wear a summer dress.

Pandasandflowers · 10/09/2023 15:58

@Comedycook Different strokes :) I love sitting with my dog with a cuppa and a throwover and in no way do I equate it with being ill

ShyCity · 10/09/2023 16:01

I’m finding the humidity a bit much today in London, but I’m generally good with the hot weather. It’s such a short time we have it in this country. We’ll have those endless months of solid rain, grey skies and darkness soon enough, don’t worry Cosy crew! 😆

Pack of frozen crumpets on the forehead is one good solution I discovered yesterday.

😄And you can eat them when they've defrosted. Win win.

JimnJoyce · 10/09/2023 16:29

weather forecast has been for severe thunderstorms the last 2 days here in the midlands. My lightning tracker app keeps teasing me with the odd strike locally but not a hint of a storm eve. though it's grey overhead.
It did rain for 5 seconds earlier though.

JimnJoyce · 10/09/2023 16:32

Here not eve! Oh and I'm sat in the car with a migraine just to get some lovely cold air con

MenopauseSucks · 10/09/2023 16:41

It feels like a bloody monsoon here in Surrey.... Hot & humid!
When I came downstairs this morning & it was 26.5 with 62% humidity. It was far worse upstairs...
I was in France in temperatures of 29-32c but because it was dry heat, it was liveable. Slept well with just a fan, going for 4-5 mile walks around 9am, no sweat!
Here on the other hand...

TheLostNights · 10/09/2023 16:43

Got a long day at work in a hot office tomorrow. Although it's a bit cooler at around 26C, it's still going to be a nightmare. I'm just patiently waiting for Tuesday at this point.

dontforgetme · 10/09/2023 17:04

I've hit my limit now, I'm miserable as fuck. Tired. Last night was HELL. I'm sticky and itchy. Fuck everything and everyone today.

I swear I'm normally a happy jolly person Grin

My DD is flat out refusing to go outside. Never usually an issue. We are all totally melting!

bookworm14 · 10/09/2023 17:28

Feels a bit cooler in west London now and just started to drizzle. Thank god for that.

TheLostNights · 10/09/2023 17:59

24C here but feels hotter

CyberCritical · 10/09/2023 18:02

It's the humidity, I quite like dry heat, but this sticky hot is unpleasant. I hate that just a few steps to the fridge is enough to have me break out in full body sweat. DH is sat fanning himself with an Amazon cardboard envelope, I've got an ice pack I'm moving from neck to forehead and DH has a glass full of ice and orange squash that she keeps pressing to her forehead. All of us are in as few clothes as possible and we're just so tired from a weeks worth of broken sleep.

Work and school will be fun tomorrow if a full 8 hrs arent had tonight.

Comedycook · 10/09/2023 18:05

Getting much cooler now in se London....but it makes me emotional. Heatwave is over now... tomorrow is warm but not scorching then it's all downwards. Won't see 30 degrees for at least 8 months now😥

sarahh96 · 10/09/2023 18:05

@FOJN I don't get it either. I'm in SE also. I think, by the time the bricks, roof, curtains (closed) have all heated up, all you're doing is trapping the heat inside. I'd love to know how either ppl manage it. We were supposed to have a downpour earlier....we had a dribble...humidity now rising again. Fed up with it! WE WANT RAIN!

TheLostNights · 10/09/2023 18:19

@Comedycook that makes me want to cry with relief to be honest. Don't get me wrong, I like low comfortable 20's type weather but this extreme heat for days on end with stifling hot nights can piss right off. I can't wait to start feeling more comfortable, to start feeling well again and to get a good night's sleep.

Catsarego · 10/09/2023 18:21

Cooler now in S London. Phew
