WEF - Conspiracy Theory?

216 replies

Lazyusername · 05/09/2023 14:28

Every so often, someone in comments will mention the WEF and a torrent of responses follows; memes of tinfoil hat-wearers, insults etc.

I'm very interested in politics; I read around all of the papers, news sites etc.
From what I understand there are valid reasons for people to be concerned about the WEF. I want to post some FACTS, along with sources, about the WEF and then I would love to hear what other people think. If I am a "conspiracy nut" for having concerns and thinking the public should know much more about this then please enlighten me.

The WEF exists. Here is its website.
The World Economic Forum (weforum.org)
It holds meetings at Davos each year. Members consist of politicians, owners of corporations & social media and others.
The WEF was created by Klaus Schwab. He is the Chairman of the WEF.
Klaus Schwab - Wikipedia
He wrote a book called Covid 19, the Great Reset. It is currently available on Amazon. I have read it. It calls for the opportunity which has arisen through the pandemic to be used to change the way the world is run, bringing in a system of "stakeholder capitalism". In this system, democracy becomes of lesser importance and decisions are taken by corporations in conjunction with the UN.
You can read a more complex explanation here:
Conspiracy theories aside, there is something fishy about the Great Reset - resilience
The WEF have a programme of "Young Global Leaders". You can read about them here on the WEF's own site:
What are Young Global Leaders and what impact can they have? | World Economic Forum (weforum.org)
Young global leaders have included Angela Merkel, Tony Blair, Emanuel Macron, Jacinda Ardern, Justin Trudeau and many more.
In 2017 Klaus Schwab stated on video that the WEF had "penetrated the Cabinets" of governments around the world and that over half of Canada's Government, including Trudeau were Young Global Leaders.

(1:08:30) You can see MP's profiles on the WEF website by searching their name followed by WEF. Some are there. Some are not. Sunak and Starmer are both listed. Starmer is on video saying he prefers Davos to Westminster. The WEF Wikepedia page states: In May 2020, the WEF and the Prince of Wales's Sustainable Markets Initiative launched "The Great Reset" project, a five-point plan to enhance sustainable economic growth following the global recession caused by the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns.[128] "The Great Reset" was to be the theme of WEF's annual meeting in August 2021. The forum defines the system that it wants to create as "Stakeholder Capitalism". The Transnational Institute describes the World Economic Forum's main purpose as being "to function as a socializing institution for the emerging global elite, globalization's "Mafiocracy" of bankers, industrialists, oligarchs, technocrats and politicians. They promote common ideas, and serve common interests: their own." According to the European Parliament's think tank, critics see the WEF as an instrument for political and business leaders to "take decisions without having to account to their electorate or shareholders".[163] Since 2009, the WEF has been working on a project called the Global Redesign Initiative (GRI), which proposes a transition away from intergovernmental decision-making towards a system of multi-stakeholder governance. According to the Transnational Institute (TNI), the Forum is hence planning to replace a recognised democratic model with a model where a self-selected group of "stakeholders" make decisions on behalf of the people.

I could go on (I realise I already have 🙂) but I'm saying I don't remember any of us being consulted about having democracy taken away so we could be ruled by corporations. This is not about anti-vaxx, lizard people or anything else. As far as I can see this is a very serious affront to our freedom and democracy. AIBU?

It's lazy to call everything a conspiracy theory. They're not hiding their intentions.

Exactly this! I'm so fed up of the word conspiracy theory. It's a fucking boring and reminds me of that gaslighting manipulative narcissistic Matt Hancock every time sometime questioned him, including medical professionals about lockdown. Meanwhile the sleazy man was laughing and getting his end away but he cares about the population really. Control and power in higher powers has always been a conspiracy. Look the true meaning up. That's a conspiracy.

@IClaudine

Unlike yourself I have done my own research and until you do, your opinion is irrelevant.

May I ask why you feel that's worth looking at please?

Companies want to be high on the sustainability index because it gets them access to funds and grants.

To get higher up the list you tick boxes.

So in order to get more boxes ticked they can show commitment to some goals which give them points whilst not actually doing anything concrete to be 'sustainable'.

So amending a policy to get rid of the word 'woman' and making it more 'inclusive' ticks one box that balances their potential horrendous working practices.

Lazyusername · 05/09/2023 16:48

@Charlize43 Yeah, I feel like this myself at times. Nothing we can really do but sad to watch it happening.

I'm going to check out now as I feel as though I've just been through a few rounds of combat! But nice to debate with you all and thanks for listening. Have a great evening.

@Charlize43 now I've realised it's unstoppable, I'm similar

but I do get annoyed at being called a CT and it's worth looking at the wider picture for investment decisions etc. like in 2020, people like me said inflation and interest rates would rise but there's still people surprised by it.

What's a CT? Sorry, I feel as though I should know...

KrisAkabusi · 05/09/2023 16:48

Labour will do exactly the same. There's no point in voting for either; we need a new system.

Hang on! Now it's you that wants to get rid of democracy?!

Yes
but that's the sort of thing OP knows already? Confused.

@Charlize43 Conspiracy theorist.

Custardcreamking · 05/09/2023 16:34

You could believe all of these ideas and go through your life terrified (although I’m telling you they are nonsense and you’ll lose all your friends and family by harping on) unable to change these vile, money grabbing multinationals, believing they want to grab everything off you and leave you with a shell of a life;

or, you could think that yes these companies probably seek to influence but we live in a democracy and things will be ok.

pull back op before you fall into the abyss.

I love how you assume us 'conspiracy theorists' are somehow in the minority.
We're only the minority in your head because all your information comes from the bbc (government controlled broadcaster) .
Thankfully all my friends and family now know what's going on since covid, didn't take them long to realise and we don't all bang on about it, it's just a simple fact of life now that we all nod and agree at the same things.
It's also very interesting how you hold so much importance in keeping quiet about one's opinions. Speaks volumes about your character, integrity and intelligence.

sezzer87 · 05/09/2023 16:51

@IClaudine No

AlisonDonut · 05/09/2023 16:55

They promote common ideas, and serve common interests

This is called Communism.

Did anyone vote for this?

MistressoftheDarkSide · 05/09/2023 17:06

I’m in agreement with you OP. Read around a lot of this during lockdown and it’s clear that over the next few years our lives and the way the world works is going to change dramatically.

Most concerning is the speed of technological advancement and how that will impact everything because as with the Internet, legislation won’t be able to keep up and those investing in AI etc will have precious little oversight. The Social Credit model is very attractive to big corporations and government alike. The leverage will be introduced gently- carbon credits and reduction of cash for a start. Rishi has a very interesting video out there about his enthusiasm for CDBC - funnily enough I believe his family-in-law are very interested in it too….

Some of this got discussed in the “State of Fear” threads - in amongst less plausible theories - and those threads all got removed due to “Far RightPanic”. (For those who don’t know State of Fear was a book written by a journalist documenting from all the official sources that behavioural psychology was over used to instil fear in the populous about the pandemic. NB even members of the Government Behavioual Unit (sic) expressed concern about it. But no we were all just rabid CTs)

Anyhoo, as long as we have GM bread and the inoffensive equivalent of circuses, we’ll be fine- after all TPTB must know best, with all their cleverness and money and stuff….. ours not to reason why eh?

StTropezTan · 05/09/2023 17:13

Wsmi · 05/09/2023 15:27

You are it wrong OP. But the enlightened like to think that any view that opposes their own makes everyone else a conspiracy theorist.

People refuse to accept that our economy is being run in a certain way where without the lobbying and influence of large players, not thing happens. Nothing at all. Let’s take a few examples.

Iraq war was a payday for big defence. The infamous weapons of mass destruction did not exist and the Middle East has seen 0 benefit from interventions. Who won? Big defence. The US spends nearly a $1 trillion on defence a year. Defence against what? The UK, while a smaller player, pledges to spend 2% of GDP on defence? Against what? War is big business.

Financial crash. Larry Summers the US treasury chief who turned a blind eye to reckless mortgage securities was the ex chief of Citi bank. He was warned about was coming, but he accelerated the recklessness under his watch in government. We all know what happened next. And who won? The banks. And try have continued to win since 2008 as government printed trillions and just gave it out to banks as free money.

Covid. The decision to lock up healthy people was completely unnecessary and used as a lever to print and borrow further trillions so it could make its way through the system to into corrupt government handouts. And let’s not forget the biggest payout for the big Pharma in a hundred years. Who won? Anyone close to government who could get a contract.

Ukraine war. Well why should big energy lose out. It’s their turn. Been a while since they cashed in. Everyone needs a go on the gravy train. After all, the progressives tell us that we need to create a fair and equitable society.

Next? If you’re not already, invest what you have in the ‘green’ initiatives. Everyone is being forced and taxed by stealth to fund this next gravy train.

The enlightened and clever people going around shouting ‘conspiracy theorist’ at everyone fail to realize that anyone not part of this racket is paying taxes through the nose and having trillions borrowed in their name for it to be siphoned by those who create these crises.

Follow they money.

Wow! This is so spot on. Very, very well said and thank you for posting this.

I have suspected exactly the same for some time but you are have summarised far more eloquently than I could ever have. I’ve always had ‘faith’ in our system despite its flaws, but covid finally opened my eyes to the amount of manipulation of the public and how conned we were by our leaders. I’m gobsmacked that even after the revelations by Isobel Oakeshott of the Hancock WhatsApp messages, people still accept unquestioningly the BS we are all fed.

Custardcreamking · 05/09/2023 15:16

You’re getting / have been sucked in by a mad conspiracy theory. Rescue yourself before everyone you know deserts you for being a nutter.

This is crazy thinking, there's nothing wrong with questioning things and taking a closer look at them. I get this exact thing said to me online because I refuse to believe men are women because they say they are.

Whatswhatwhichiswhich · 05/09/2023 17:14

@Lazyusername with respect if that’s genuinely what you think then you need serious mental health help.

Blueblell · 05/09/2023 17:17

Multinationals already have a lot of power and can influence government decisions - nothing new there. Not all states are democratic, multinationals operate in both democratic and non democratic states. Multinationals are not patriotic (not very good terminology) but you get my point.

IClaudine · 05/09/2023 17:23

TPTB, @MistressoftheDarkSide what does that stand for please?

I remember the state of fear threads. I didn't agree with much of what was posted, but I think MNHQ were wrong to delete them all. It would be so interesting to read them now.

It's a repetitive bingo game

Wsmi · 05/09/2023 17:48

A couple more examples, in case there was any doubt about the corruption, nudge tactics and manipulation of the general public by governments.

Migration crisis. It’s no crisis. It’s a policy. Successive governments around the western world, and here at home have created this situation deliberately. Those in power across the illegal migration supply chain are cashing in and ripping off taxpayers in Europe and US. Libyan navy are running the operation launching boats with migrants into the med. on the other side governments cronies in Europe are cashing in - accommodation providers, lawyers, contractors, processing companies. Governments have orchestrated this to steal from the taxpayer to give to their own cronies.

Did anyone notice what happened with the aerated concrete issue in the news? This was known for 30 years, nothing was done, and all of a sudden it makes it into the news. So many buildings reached end of life decades ago. Why all the fuss now? Because major construction companies in this country are struggling right now. There turn to rip off the country now. Watch now who gets the contracts for these schools and hospitals and follow the chain to see how they are connected to the government.

Always follow the money. It always gets you to the truth.

Yes, these are the sort of responses I see every time which is why I created this post. But no counter-argument. Are you saying the WEF doesn't exist? That the people I mentioned are not Young Global Leaders? That the WEF do not wish to implement a global Government of "stakeholder capitalism"? Because it is all there for you to read on their own website.

Sooo, everything will be run by capitalists, for the benefit of capitalists? I don’t see how this is any different from now. Were you under the impression that things aren’t arranged to suit powerful, rich people now?

<waves madly at Mistress>

I sort of would, but the vitriol directed at us for saying things that are now part of public reports...sadly the MN view echoed in real life.

I have cut off a couple of people IRL as I just cannot forgive.

meanwhile, with a property to sell, I've just been having a chat with the EA about people who didn't realise interest rates would rise. None so blind as them wot won't listen!

I do see posters around who were absolutely vile to us and I feel not a jot of sympathy for their troubles. I don't feel glee but I can't feel sympathy.

We did have more of a mixed economy when I were a lass, and more help for those in need.
