To ask about hidden gratitude?

I've literally just had a pop up box about something to do with hidden gratitudes but it vanished before I'd had chance to read it in its entirety or take in what it was for. I can't see any threads about it but it looked like a new feature, has anyone else had this pop up?

@AmbleInAnnBoleyn i managed to shut the pop up no problem on the mobile site, perhaps it’s specific to your browser?

Although to me, the clapping hands look a bit sarcastic!

It's also a fuck off button but they don't want everyone to know.

Interesting. I hadn't thought of it that way.

I kind of liked the fact that Mumsnet is one of the few sites where threads don't become a 'who is the most popular girl in the class' competition. I guess this new feature is a compromise of sorts.

MN as an organisation wouldn't suffer if they had a like button. They really wouldn't. I understand the argument that they don't want a popularity contest but the MN royalty thing already demonstrates that exists.

So I think the primary reason is not wanting certain comments that are controversial or unpopular being publicly upvoted hundreds of times.

JaneJeffer · 04/09/2023 13:10

I'd quite like to have like/dislike buttons just for a day for the craic. See what happens Grin

Or a passive aggressive “thanks” , like I mutter if someone lets a door swing shut in my face.

BarbieKew · 04/09/2023 12:26

Just shows the user names of your thankees. I’ve thanked you so you can see 😁

Why thanks!! 😂😂

Thanks for your thanks 👍

We'll all grow up and get over this soon lol

Please accept my gratitude for your post. I am extremely grateful, (genuinely, not sarcastic or anything).

I also say it when someone lets a door go, usually followed by muttering a fuck off as I walk away limping.

Twiglets1 · 04/09/2023 13:28

I wish it said "Like" or "Rep" a post because sometimes you like a post without Thanks being an appropriate response. You may just like the way someone expressed their point well or made you smile.

Oh god you are so right. The royal topic will be a shitshow. The tag-teamers who are already leading proponents of mutual backslapping, tantrums and setting up a hostile atmosphere for non-believers are gonna so love this feature Grin

Agree they are going to be unbearable with their mutual thank offs!

JaneJeffer · 04/09/2023 13:34

I need to see what's happening in the RF topic now

LuciaPillson · 04/09/2023 14:10

Oh no, I've thanked a few people to practise. I don't want them to think I've told them to fuck off! 😆

On my laptop I have Add Message (no idea), Thanks, Save, Share, Report and Bookmark, and then on the drop-down menu I have Quote, PM, See All, Top with up arrow, Bottom with down arrow. No Reply anywhere. Actually I don't know what a lot of these do and am too lazy to find out.

How about 'Do fuck off, and thank you'?

I'm too old for these newfangled social complexities! I'm confused, I tell you! 👵
totters off, moaning faintly

All this new stuff is a pain I agree, with gratitude.

I WANT THE QUOTE BUTTON BACK, I DON'T CARE IF I AM BEING UNGRATEFUL!

LuciaPillson · 04/09/2023 15:12

@MonumentalLentil

Oh I see, you're resentfully grateful. And gleefully ungrateful. But, if I'm reading it right, both at the same time?

I think I'd have to practise this in front of a mirror and still not sure I'd get it right.

Your posts have peacefully enraged me, or do I mean given me a sort of unpleasant pleasure? Either way I think it's proof I'm adjusting to the cyberworld of tomorrow and am fully "down with the kids".

Now if everybody would just get off my lawn it's time for my nap.

HiddenPlatitudes · 04/09/2023 15:25

The quote function is still there via the 3 dots ... at the top of each post

spitefulandbadgrammar · 04/09/2023 15:32

Janiie · 04/09/2023 11:06

I doubt it. I bet most won't be arsed to use it unless a very contentious issue.

I plan to use it passive aggressively, thanking anyone who gets into beef with me or explains the bleeding obvious. Very “yeah, thanks, pal”.

Errr, yes, that's how I quoted previous posts?

My point is that it has been moved to a place where I have to scroll up to the top of the post in order to get to the dots and find the option to use quote. Which is why I said wanted the quote button back, not the quote function.

It is no longer a simple procedure, it is now a pain in the arse (or finger from scrolling).

ICanBuyMyOwnBooks · 04/09/2023 16:50

So now 'thanks' might mean 'like'; might mean 'I'm scared to disagree with the mob but admire your bravery'; might mean 'I disagree with you but admire your argument', or might mean 'fuck off you gf!'.
Complete confusion all round. If you're having a happy day, all thanks will be seen as gratitude. If you're narky, they'll all seem sarcastic.

I do apologise, thank you so very much for your incredible assistance in pointing me to a place I had already found and utlised. Is that OK? I really hope so as I will be eternally grateful.

Damn I still didn’t get a “Thanks” for my original post
