To think the Tories must actually want to loose the next election?

School closures for repairs just before the term starts is bonkers. Are they now content with the amount of money they have plundered and now want Labour to inherit the mess or are they hoping that the dumb electorate will still vote for them or say " well the cost of living has hit everywhere...its nothing to do with Brexit?" Or " but boats."?
I don't get it.

I too, want to watch Kuensberg but feel as you do. I fear it will make me feel both furious and defeated. How much more of these truth-twisting shapeshifters can we take? And look at the USA. Trump or Biden is the choice. I've never felt so despairing. It cant go well.

I'll brave it at the weekend with a glass of wine and my husband here to shout at the telly with me Grin

It is laughable that Biden is the left option but when you have a far right party banning books, practising voter suppression and curtailing women's rights I guess everything is left of there.

I'll settle for "less evil" "less stupid" and "actually wants to govern a country."

longwayoff · 14/09/2023 20:44

Well yes, hence Biden, I just hope he can withstand it as the only option. He looks worryingly frail. I must stop this. I need to resume news avoidance, something I used to despise. Survival mode.

I feel if I don't keep up with the news my kids will be going to school with crumbling concrete over their heads and the river next to my parents home will be filled with human excrement.

Oh.

@SerendipityJane you call people thick but can only communicate by insulting.

Bollindger · 15/09/2023 10:00

I don't thing any party deserves to win. The Torys are luke a rudderless boat. Labour are like a group of ants in need of a leader who isn't scared to act. Going round and round in a circle.
Where is the opposing voice, because KS isn't it.
I have looked and can see no clear manifesto for Labour and yet they will be voted in and since they are said to be going to repeal the strike ban, wages going up means food going up and cost of living going up and this will mean no gains.

SnapdragonToadflax · 15/09/2023 10:08

Labour won't and don't need to release a manifesto until an election is called. That's how politics works.

Not only that but the Tories keep nicking their ideas and claiming credit for them. If they’ve got any sense they’ll let the government get its manifesto out first when they finally stop dragging their heels and call an election.

Bollindger · 16/09/2023 14:10

I think that Labour isn't winning as the best team for the job. More the floating voters have no one else to vote for to form a Govenment.
Everyone knows this.

So why aren't Labour using this momentum, they just seem so lacklustre and underperforming. I truly believe the Unions will be making demands and given them unless a true leader appears .

TooBigForMyBoots · 16/09/2023 14:18

I think the Tories are trying to lose all the elections. FFS who puts an Enoch Powell fan up to be their London Mayoral candidate?🤦‍♀️

Enoch Powell used to be too far right for the Tories.

These days... Hmm

I've usually voted for them, now feeling politically homeless, not sure I'll bother voting, not that it matters as I'm in a very safe seat which isn't changing hands anyway.

It might do. They lost Windsor and Maidenhead in the local elections.

SammyScrounge · 09/04/2024 23:06

Correction. Nothing is as bad what Starmer will do to please the trans lobby with regard to women and children.

Starmer is an intelligent man...rare for a politician. The trans thing is annoying though ...how many people irl give a fuck about it though?

I suspect we will see a lot of old threads resurrected as the Tory war machine creaks into action.

Bollindger · 10/04/2024 10:40

This is like last time .
Time for a change.
However this Labour is not the stunning new dawn. It is sort of like an old war horse that is the only horse that in the stable, you can ride that or walk....
Your all going to see not much will change as circumstances will dictate how things go.

The same could have been said of Attlee’s government. Look what that accomplished.

They don't seem to be the most exciting bunch, but the leadership seem to project competence. I actually think Rishi is a good competent man, but he is chasing his tail with the factional fighting in his party, to the extent that he is unable to do his best by the country.

My fear with Labour is not with the leadership, its that the lunatic fringe manages to worm its way back in. Keir's doing a good job of getting rid of the anti-Semites and the student politics branch, its just whether he can carry on holding them off.

CurlewKate · 10/04/2024 11:15

If you know you're going to lose, you make sure everything is so completely fucked up the incoming government has no chance of making things better straight away so you can say "Look, we told you it's be worse with them." And enough of the electorate are so politically ignorant they wore them back in at the next election.

KirstenBlest · 10/04/2024 11:19

@ACynicalDad , Don't not vote. I live in a safe seat and I consider each of the candidates and vote for the one who I think will be the best constituency MP.
If you don't like the sound of any of them, spoil your paper.

A drop in majority might keep the safe seat MP on his or her toes.

Peregrina · 10/04/2024 11:52

Yet with the current Tory party, it's the lunatic fringe of racists and absolute nutters who are in charge. The sensible ones were chased out of the party.

It's impossible to overstate how stupid someone who "always votes <x>" is as an example to their own self interest.

If you always vote <x> and <x> get in then <x> know they can shit on you as hard as they want. After all, you have proved you will vote <x> come what may.

The idea that a party with your vote in the bag will do anything for you is laughable.

This is why - over time - it will be the die-hard tory voters that are shafted hardest. As is indeed happening.
