To think the Tories must actually want to loose the next election?

School closures for repairs just before the term starts is bonkers. Are they now content with the amount of money they have plundered and now want Labour to inherit the mess or are they hoping that the dumb electorate will still vote for them or say " well the cost of living has hit everywhere...its nothing to do with Brexit?" Or " but boats."?
I don't get it.

@Bunnyannesummers well if it happens I'm unashamedly joining them. I would do almost anything in exchange for viking armour, a broadsword and the promise of dragons

RafaistheKingofClay · 04/09/2023 11:23

I’d quite happily be invaded at this point.

They know they don’t have a chance at the next election, OP. They are just doing slash and burn with the country and trying to make as much money for themselves as possible. They need to just call an election and put us out of our misery.

I've usually voted for them, now feeling politically homeless, not sure I'll bother voting, not that it matters as I'm in a very safe seat which isn't changing hands anyway.

If you usually voted for them, then by return they never gave a fuck about you. They had your vote already.

SerendipityJane · 04/09/2023 11:28

Sadly there are enough die-hard Tory voters who'll vote for them regardless.

Well they'll be first to be fucked then. Probably without realising it. After all if you are dim enough to vote by colour, then you probably aren't paying attention to policies, promises and outcomes. Which they clearly aren't because ... well because they are voting Tory.

Sunsnet · 04/09/2023 11:34

I'm assuming they just discovered some of the schools are in wealthy areas and killing the children of their voters was an even worse political move than everything else they've fucked up.

Killing their grandparents ...

What is Labour saying? Are they paying the repairs with the money they will get from private schools VAT? The avalanche to state schools would only made that much worse. Be careful what you wish for and all that.

DuncinToffee · 04/09/2023 11:37

Don't worry, Sunak just said "a lot of schools are not falling down", phew.

Imagine having safe schools for all children

BIossomtoes · 04/09/2023 11:40

Imagine having a fully functional country.

lightinthebox · 04/09/2023 11:44

I’m politically homeless now, but Tories ‘know what a woman is’ so that’s more important to some people than school buildings being unsafe.

It's getting embarrassing now when people try the "whatabouttery" - especially when you remember it was the fucking Tories who tried to tell us a Labour government would be a recipe for chaos. Where's your intelligence, let alone self respect ?

Of course Labour won't be perfect. But with nearly 4 years of this shit gone past, it's mathematically impossible for them to be more shit than this. And I speak as someone who survived the winter of 78 ....

I agree Op, I think some Conservatives would like to hand over the mess to another party, or maybe have a hung Parliament. That's what I would be hoping for were I in office at the moment. Then my plan would be to regroup my party and hopefully storm to victory at the following GE 😁

I insist I am NOT trying to start a bun-fight, but please can someone explain how the whole concrete thing is the fault of the current government because I'm not seeing it. Isn't it more of a historical building materials thing - like asbestos?

A lot of countries do use RAAC concrete in their buildings including germany, singapore. The difference is that other countries maintain it and replace sections of it as time goes by. There is a strict maintenance schedule

If you choose to use cheaper materials and then don't maintain it, then it is a failure on your part. Its like how many people choose to buy cheap clothes from Primark but they also probably replace their clothes more often than someone who buys bespoke tailor made clothing.

StillWantingADog · 04/09/2023 11:52

Agree with pp that they know they’ve lost the next election so actually it makes it quite convenient to be seen to be trying to do something about it when realistically it is the next government that will have to find money to pay for it

I think as well, if you cancel a programme to rebuild schools and then have actually had basically the same information since 2018, and then also don't provide additional capital funding to deal with it, those probably add to the "yup, this is a government problem" side of things.

TooBigForMyBoots · 04/09/2023 12:00

They've known for years.

verdantverdure · 04/09/2023 12:07

I think the Tories have a very low opinion of their own voters and believe that enough of them will turn out to vote for them no matter how much they have damaged this country.

To be a Tory voter nowadays you have to be thick and blind, a stranger to logic and facts and in denial about actions having consequences and easily manipulated, even into acting against their own interest, the interest of others and the interest of our country.

Look at the ULEZ numb nuts fighting against cleaner air.

I bet loads of them have something about their children being their world in their divorced dad plenty of fish profile.

Not enough to give up the old diesel though eh?

at this point I'm hoping one of the nordic countries would invade us as we are clearly no longer able to govern ourselves

Sounds good to me! They all seem to run civilised societies, and hopefully we'd get our EU passports back.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 04/09/2023 12:11

But...but...but...they at least know what a woman is......small boats full of illegal immigrants, oven ready deal......brexit means brexit......keirs beer....chaos under Labour.....the unelectable Jeremy Corbyn.....Dianne Abbot.....Labour spent all the money.....Gordon Brown called a woman a bigot.....Labour is in the SNP pocket

enchantedsquirrelwood · 04/09/2023 12:12

DuncinToffee · 04/09/2023 11:37

Don't worry, Sunak just said "a lot of schools are not falling down", phew.

To be fair, most aren't. But the problem is much wider than schools. RACC is used in my local hospital, which needs a complete rebuild. Not sure where the money for that is going to come from, given Labour have said no increases in income tax.

If we won't pay more tax, how are we going to have better services and infrastructure?

There are lots of people out there who will still vote Tory, as they still think Boris woz robbed.

Echobelly · 04/09/2023 12:14

Yeah, possibly - they have no solutions but they can lose and then blame Labour for all problems they left behind.

verdantverdure · 04/09/2023 12:20

The Tories will just rile up their voters with something about asylum seekers, Sadiq Khan or Benefit scrounges just before the election and the easily manipulated bastards will go and vote for them.

It helps that you have to believe things that aren't true to be a Tory in the first place.

Like Brexit.

Lastchancechica · 04/09/2023 12:24

Serious question.

What on earth do you think Labour are going to do to turn this around??

They are silent on every issue, back track on the few they can cobble together!

It is very sweet that you are so hopeful op, but honesty how do you imagine Sir Keir is going to ride to the rescue?

verdantverdure · 04/09/2023 12:27

They've known about the longevity or lack of it if RAAC for a long time.

The government knew our schools and hospitals were falling down. I read that a hospital in Gove's constituency closed its upper floors in 2012!

And these 40 new hospitals that Boris Johnson promised are smaller, often less well situated replacements for 40 current hospitals they knew years ago are on the verge of collapse

And still they wasted billions on the uselessly performative Nightingales.

But some Tories got richer off public money and that's the main thing.
