AIBU to feel think this woman has the maturity of a 6 year old, and the self-awareness of a corpse?

The headline gives you an idea...

"I’m a single mum who’s turned to food banks after spending £1k on my bloke’s holiday – when we got home I was ghosted"

The details in the story show a woman who is breathtakingly irresponsible...

www.thesun.co.uk/fabulous/23749211/single-mum-ghosted-after-paying-for-boyfriends-holiday/

Does she expect seriously sympathy for her astounding fecklessness and utter stupidity?

Alright for some. I donate to the food bank and I haven’t had a holiday.
I bet the pizza guy is fuming he gave her £40 when she’s spent £1,000 living it up.
Still, she’s been paid for her story so she’s recouped some money, I wonder if she’s flogged her story to Take a Break too?

SleeplessInShoeburyness · 01/09/2023 23:14

I was horrified that I actually read that story but the headline intrigued me! My first thought was did the delivery driver, who I think had his own family, give money knowing she’d just got back from a holiday abroad before pleading poverty!

Surely she realises how she looks but is obviously desperate for 5 minutes of fame. It’s clear why the newspaper picked the story up. Did she seriously approach them with it!

Surprised she hasn’t got a go fund me set up for her DCs back to school stuff. Poor DC with a mother like that is all I can say.

pictoosh · 01/09/2023 23:19

"Even though it was all financially on me, it was amazing."

I laughed out loud at that, cowbag that I am. 😆

LakeTiticaca · 01/09/2023 23:26

If some folk had brains they would be dangerous

MhairiLynette · 01/09/2023 23:28

Poor, poor children. Mum is a complete Wally.

SurprisedWithAHorse · 01/09/2023 23:34

Hard hitting journalism.

Screamingabdabz · 01/09/2023 23:37

I do feel sorry for those kids - grinning away in the photos like their mum is some sort of superstar. She’s actually a grabby lying dipshit.

ReleasetheCrackHen · 01/09/2023 23:39

I actually feel sorry for her. She’d budgeted for her holiday for herself and her kids. He then does the Romeo scam on her and got her to pay to fly him out and then winkled more money for her to pay all his food, expenses and so on.
That then meant she was out an extra £1k she hadn’t planned on, that he’d promised to pay her back. They get back and he ghosts her saying she’s “not his type”.

He totally fucked her over.

UneFoisAuChalet · 01/09/2023 23:44

I read her ‘story’ yesterday and I honestly believe it’s a pisstake/click bait. She’s so fucking stupid, went on Facebook to tell her mates how broke she is after her holibobs and the poor pizza delivery guy felt sorry for her and gave her £40 after hearing she had to visit a food bank. The DM picked up the story and ran with it - zero irony - and basically just let the readers and commenters get riled.

But now they’ve added the boyfriend who got a free ride and his so-angry-she-had-to-comment mother. Boyfriend has been blurred out of the holiday pic, but I expect his world exclusive tomorrow.

This reminds me of the guy who left his wife for the Ukraine refugee who then assaulted him, was arrested, deported and then returned. Just absolute trash stories.

AutumnCrow · 01/09/2023 23:46

The tabloid is taking the piss out of her story. Click-baiting her. Isn't it obvious?

IsitChristmasyet23 · 01/09/2023 23:53

Although it was all on the tax payer. Fixed it.

ReleasetheCrackHen · 01/09/2023 23:53

Oh, so this is a benefits bashing thread then?

Canisaysomething · 01/09/2023 23:54

She's not telling her story for sympathy. It says she's sharing her story to warn others of trusting men too quickly. She knows she messed up. No need for the pile on.

fabmaccawhackythumbsaloft · 01/09/2023 23:59

Awww diddums.

What a stupid cow.

How gullible can someone be though? Never mind that it's received wisdom on here that new relationships should be managed slowly if there are kids in the picture, taking months before so much as an introduction to them, let alone bringing him on holiday.

tt9 · 02/09/2023 00:02

what's getting to me is that she let's a man she's only known for a few weeks be alone with her kids?! eg. take baby for a walk...

Fiddlesticks24 · 02/09/2023 00:03

Is she the stupid one? Or is it all the people believing what they read in the Sun? 🤔

icallitasplodge · 02/09/2023 00:03

I often read these “warning to others” stories and just think, what?

It’s always things that no one with any sense would do. “New scam doing the rounds: people you don’t know call you up and ask you for money. I handed over my car keys, house, life savings, 2 out of 3 kids, and even gave them my dressing gown and slippers to wear while I ran the robbers a bath and made them a sandwich!”

NewName122 · 02/09/2023 00:05

I referred a single mum to the Food bank not long ago and have been told she's just got back from a nice holiday in Spain. People are cheeky.

icallitasplodge · 02/09/2023 00:06

Then her daughter accidentally ordered a pizza. How does that happen 🤣

Bollocks. It’s the new horrible thing of doing anything to get your face in the public eye a la Josie Cunningham and her boob job.

Throwncrumbs · 02/09/2023 00:07

She’s as thick as mince. The poor delivery guy effectively gave her £40 out of his own pocket after she just paid for a holiday… and paid for a feckless boyfriend as well. Two week holiday to Cyprus but goes to food bank….then she goes to the papers! Unbelievable….poor kids next week when she takes them to school , they are going to be the talk of the playground and not in a good way!

Yes, victims tend to be gullible and vulnerable.

It’s not cheeky it’s appalling, no shame imo!

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 02/09/2023 00:16

It is her poor judgement but the guy was a jerk using her that way. She needs to join mumsnet and learn the realities of life.
