Do you drink every day on holiday?

Wondering about this. Normally I stick to weekends for a few drinks, with the odd mid week couple of glasses of wine at an events or somesuch.

But on holiday we drank every day for a week. A beer or cocktail or two before dinner, and then sharing a bottle of wine for example. Had a weekend of no alcohol after coming home, just to get a break, but we're away this weekend again so will drink this weekend too.

If you drink, do you drink quite a bit more on holiday?

Hell yes! But it's only a matter of time before people come on here all cats bum faced telling us we need to join AA!!!

coloursquare · 31/08/2023 22:00

No

BabyShaark · 31/08/2023 22:03

I seem to be the odd one out (as usual)

I don’t drink at all during holidays.

I do drink otherwise, probably about 1-2 bottles of wine per week. Mainly to wind down after work.

No work, no drink 😂

Why is it that I’m always the total opposite of everyone else? 🤣🤣🤣

Eh, bloody proud of it, too 😛

No - only go on holiday with my dc.

I'm actually quite shocked by how much people on this thread drink when on holiday.

@Lioney - blimey, you’re easily shocked! 🤣

holidaywine · 31/08/2023 22:17

Lunchtime drinks would make the afternoon a write off for me these days! So I don't bother.

Pleased to see daily drinks are a version of normal on holiday though 😁

I drink all day on holiday. Cocktails when I'm cruising and beer / Tia Maria coffees mainly when I'm camping.

I rarely drink otherwise.

Scarfweather · 31/08/2023 22:23

I drink one or two small glasses of wine a day whether I’m at home or on holiday. I don’t increase the amount.

Elvis1956 · 31/08/2023 22:29

Hell yes from 10am on. Sorry but I'm working class, English...it's what we do..So I will drink steadily all day and all night, but you won't see me drink or being an arse because I will slow down when necessary

Bethanbee · 31/08/2023 22:31

Yes, I do!

allhellcantstopusnow · 31/08/2023 22:31

No, I'd be a knackered, dehydrated sun burnt mess if I did. Plus I'd rather eat my calories than drink them.

Qilin · 31/08/2023 22:31

On many holidays, yes we do. Even more so now dd is an adult and can drink too.

Got back from holiday this weekend so having a week off. Out for a meal with friends on Saturday though, so will have a drink then.

Sallyingon · 31/08/2023 22:38

I like a nice cold beer after the beach, then a cocktail before dinner, wine with meal and occasionally a cocktail after dinner. Managed it every day for a fortnight just about. Had half a litre of wine with lunch one day too..felt fantastic ..for a bit...and then I didn't, so didn't attempt that one again.

TeenLifeMum · 31/08/2023 22:44

I do drink more on holiday but I don’t drink much at home. We’ve just been away for 10 nights and I had alcohol on 4 of those - 2 cocktails each time except final night when I had 3. It was so hot though I needed hydration in the day.

Cardboardcup · 31/08/2023 22:49

I’m a social drinker so yes on holiday I’d drink in the evening when going out but not during the day. I don’t drink at all at home unless we have friends round or go out.

Thepeopleversuswork · 31/08/2023 22:53

Depends on the holiday: I'm a single parent and most of my holidays in the past ten years have been just me and DD so its somewhat impractical and undesirable to get hammered when you have to get up early and schlep around a European city with a child.

We've just got back from a UK activity holiday which involved doing a lot of outdoor stuff during the day and I was too knackered to do much in the evenings, maybe had three beers over the course of the week.

Pre kids I would have drunk every day on holiday but I drank a lot more anyway in those days.

On holiday with my partner and DD last year overseas I did drink more or less every day but didn't get hammered, a couple of beers or glasses of wine a day.

I drink a fraction of what I drank in my 20s/30s though. Alcohol and menopause don't really mix.

Goldmember · 31/08/2023 22:55

I take a box of wine with me so yes. I will wait until evening though, so I have some decorum.

fussychica · 31/08/2023 22:58

Don't usually drink in the daytime at all on holiday or at home. Evenings home regime is Fri, Sat,Sun, holidays might be most evenings but if its a long break away we'll probably stick to the home routine.

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 31/08/2023 23:05

Of course! I’m not one of these people who breaks their routine just because they’re on holiday!

I suspect you're not shocked at all, you just disapprove.

There are plenty of us working class English who don't drink from 10am, so it's not necessarily what 'we do' 🙄

If it's what you do then fill your boots but don't bring everyone else into it 🤣

MissingMoominMamma · 31/08/2023 23:11

Yes. I always think I won’t, but I do.

I agree.

I definitely don’t drink all day, every day.

No wonder Brits have such a bad rep in different countries.

OneTwoThreeShake · 31/08/2023 23:13

Depends on the holiday, but I wouldn't say I drink a great deal. Maybe every few days or so. If I'm at an all inclusive I'll probably drink more but even then, last time we requested a specific bottle of whisky in our room and had barely touched it when we were leaving.

KajsaKavat · 31/08/2023 23:15

No no no absolutely not. Barely ever as I want to drive and explore etc. I’ve never understood the weird drinking every day and eating to excess because it’s summer thing

Fizbosshoes · 31/08/2023 23:16

Yes same. I drink (not excessively) at weekends at home - maybe 1-2 glasses of wine on a Friday or Saturday. On holiday I probably had a glass of wine most days or shared a bottle if we went out. (Not shared equally - DH always drinks more than I do)
