to tell DH he can't keep eating that

Every day after work DH buys a share bag of some kind of chocolate, twirl bites, buttons, whatever and eats the whole bag. AIBU to think it is too much to have daily? This isn't me caring about weight gain, this is me caring that it's unhealthy.

OP posts:

Is he very active? My DH can eat like that but some days he does 22,000 steps.

OnAMidnightTrainToGeorgia · 30/08/2023 08:22

Those bags are only ever half full. Not much to them at all!

Nopenopenopenopenopenope · 30/08/2023 08:22

Unfortunately you can't tell an adult what they can or can't eat. Okay, you could, but I doubt it would go down well. Maybe it's comfort eating, is he struggling with something?

towriteyoumustlive · 30/08/2023 08:22

Thats really unhealthy!

He is a grown up so his choice but I'd not be attracted to someone who did that!

Peony654 · 30/08/2023 08:23

I don’t think you can tell another adult what to do but I’d find that unattractive. And also before you have an evening meal surely, that’s weird.

SunRainStorm · 30/08/2023 08:24

Really unhealthy.

It gives me the ick when grown men eat like the kid in home alone.

Cazzovuoi · 30/08/2023 08:25

The posters who are telling you it’s fine if the person does XYZ are clearly carb addicts themselves and don’t want to admit it.

Its not normal, it sounds like carb addiction. You can tell him OP but he won’t do anything about it until he’s ready.

BusterGonad · 30/08/2023 08:25

I wouldn't care too much about the chocolate but the price of them now would blow my mind.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 30/08/2023 08:25

No, you can't tell him he can't eat that. He's an adult, not your child.

Oh please! The bags are not massive and it could be worse, so much worse!

But I guess....drama!

It's still bad for him though. Might not make him gain weight but will affect mood, cause inflammation in the gut, increase risk of cancers later on etc.

You keep telling yourself that...

It is unhealthy, but you can't make him stop.

Adults using the word "ick" like a recalcitrant toddler, gives me the ick.

WandaWonder · 30/08/2023 08:30

He is adult i presume? You are not his mother

Summerhillsquare · 30/08/2023 08:30

A shortcut to diabetes, I'd have thought.

Cut it down to a single choccie bar, at least.

OnAMidnightTrainToGeorgia · 30/08/2023 08:30

@Mercurial123 yeah I will do!

SecretVictoria · 30/08/2023 08:32

Gets (large) popcorn and waits for competitive undereaters….

TheAloe · 30/08/2023 08:33

Christ you’re not his mother and I presume he does know it’s unhealthy. My husband has done the same for absolutely years every day with a share bag. His body, his choice. If he started dictating to me about what’s healthy and what’s not I would call it a day. We are grown adults.

Disclaimer: My husband is not fat, never has been. It is still unhealthy but it’s his life. It’s a share bag of whatever sugar concoction he’s picked up that day, not a crate of lager so keep some perspective and be his wife and not his mother.

Cheeesus · 30/08/2023 08:33

The twirl bag is 577 calories. That would be way too much for me to have in one go.

Russooooo · 30/08/2023 08:36

It’s clearly unhealthy, but he’s an adult and knows that so I don’t see what you can do about it.

Ladyj84 · 30/08/2023 08:39

I wouldn't care it's the kind of thing my hubby does and still eats tea and he's as thin as a rake. And in all fairness share bags are soo tiny now lol

OnAMidnightTrainToGeorgia · 30/08/2023 08:39

@Cazzovuoi bit of a reach there!
😂

SuperCallieFragilistic · 30/08/2023 08:42

But don't we all have various unhealthy habits?

I know plenty of people who are very disciplined when it comes to their eating, but rarely exercise, or they eat well and do plenty of exercise but they drink more than is good for them. Or don't manage their anger issues, or maybe don't manage their budget very well.

I exercise pretty well and am good at making regular doctor's appointments, but I definitely overeat salty snack foods, and I don't prioritise sleep enough.

My DH absolutely eats that much chocolate every day. He also goes to bed at a sensible time, doesn't drink, and manages his stress better than lots of other people.

We all have our stuff going on. It's difficult to rate one thing as more important than the others.

IncompleteSenten · 30/08/2023 08:43

Well yes you're right that it's not the most healthy daily choice (it's not the most unhealthy either really) but you simply can't tell another adult what they are and are not allowed to eat.
Maybe say you're concerned about his health, about the sugar etc. But you can't control what he eats.
