This winter?

Seen a couple of people posting about it, tbf they are conspiracy types, but I have anxiety after having covid & long covid and can’t go through all that again. Can anyone reassure me?

I would say I think it is 100% likely to happen in our lifetime but I doubt it'll ever get to full lockdown as no one would adhere to it because so many think it was an overreaction. And then it will end up way worse than COVID

I agree

Againstmachine · 28/08/2023 16:55

There will be but when it will be it could be next year, it could be in 50 years no one one knows.

BlueBlubbaWhale · 28/08/2023 16:59

This winter, well who knows but covid, no. I think covid will be like flu and there always be multiple strains around.

If there was I don't think anyone would listen to the gov or Co play with lockdowns this time

@Crunchymum Yep, similar to this, but again these are conspiracy type people, but I wish they wouldn’t post it! Where are they getting their info from

From inside their weird little heads.

Yeah I agree.

I work in healthcare in a v busy referral hospital. The first 2 waves were absolutely brutal, desperately trying to stop people dying all at once, having to escort one family in to a bedspace to say their goodbyes before calling the next family in, all while worrying if my elderly parents would be next. It was soul destroying.

Then during the last lockdown all of the patients we had were ones who had either ignored lockdown and we had sometimes a few members of the one family all admitted, or they were unvaccinated. The change in attitudes was very real. I know this will sound very cold but it was emotionally a lot easier looking after people dying of their own stupidity than it was at the beginning when it was just all sorts catching it.

We have an absolute shambles of a government, I can absolutely see why nobody would listen to any restrictions they tried to impose. You cant listen to a word they say. Not sure what the answer is tbh.

LegendsBeyond · 28/08/2023 17:02

Yes there will be at some point. This new Covid strain is a concern. I know someone very ill in hospital with it at the moment.

Codependantnomore · 28/08/2023 17:04

There won't be another lockdown because people just won't have it.

FFF3 · 28/08/2023 17:05

There is a new strain of COVID - but if you’re vaccinated you’ll be fine. No lockdowns will happen as a result.

Lookingforwardtoautumnnow · 28/08/2023 17:09

@MrsDBaddiel Eh? Isn’t that what people do on forums sometimes? Of course there will be people more knowledgeable than me, on all kinds of things

I believe there has been some concern that the number of people being hospitised with the new Covid strain has been going up also the immunity from vaccination is reducing, they are also not going to vaccinate as many this winter.

The big concern is when the summer is over and the schools go back the numbers could go up even more. But I think of it more like flu now, it's not going anywhere and we all just need to live with it.

Although I really wish more people had learned from the initial recommendations we had. Washing hands more often (I'm annoyed a lot of places seem to have removed hand gell) covering faces when seizing (I got senized over by someone when out the other week). Not being out in public if you are actually ill with something. These things we should be carrying on in order to help keep everyone healthy.

Livelovebehappy · 28/08/2023 17:12

Well if there is, I’m guessing the learnings from COVID will mean we won’t go into any crazy lockdowns, and will just advise the vulnerable to keep indoors this time round. I still can’t believe what we were all put through with COVID in respect of rules which just didn’t work. I followed them all, yet still got COVID three times!

Lookingforwardtoautumnnow · 28/08/2023 17:15

What is the new covid strain? Why is it bad? I’ve not even heard about it, admittedly I rarely watch the news these days

There won't be another lockdown because people just won't have it.

There won't be another covid lockdown. But I assure you that if we have another more deadly pandemic there will be lockdowns. There are some terrible illnesses out there covid was actually quite mild as the death rate was relatively low, compared to others.

WibblyWobblyTimeyWimeyStuff · 28/08/2023 17:17

No.

HTH.

Lookingforwardtoautumnnow · 28/08/2023 17:19

@MigGirl How do you know? Surely people won’t comply with lockdowns, can’t go through all that again…

It's the nature of viruses that new ones come along. Sometimes humans are particularly susceptible.
What is more likely imo is increasing antibiotic resistance to existing illnesses so that things that have been around a long time cannot be treated. Tuberculosis is already very resistant to ABs.

Not for something like this though. You might as well ask “when will I die?” “will it rain on 14 September?” No one on here could possibly answer with any confidence.

Yet you’ll get your pants in a bunch over the ramblings of some malcontents on your social media feed? Ok then 🙄

WeetabixTowels · 28/08/2023 17:25

Yes, there will likely be a flu pandemic like there is every single year.

If we go into lockdown I’m not obeying any rules, in fact I will be over-flouting them because if our politicians who make the rules are exempt from them than so am I!

MillWood85 · 28/08/2023 17:27

Viruses mutate. The flu virus changes every year and they take the most virulent strains to vaccinate with. Covid isn't any different - they will adjust the vaccines accordingly for those who chose to have them.

Yes there will likely be another pandemic in decades to come - but hopefully a lot of lessons will have been learned from the shitshow that Covid ended up being.

Hairly · 28/08/2023 17:30

KickingEAP · 28/08/2023 16:30

I think the only circumstances in which there would be another lockdown in this country within my lifetime would be if there was a disease that was particularly dangerous towards children.

Fuck old people eh. Which is why are hospitals are in a mess.

Whatswhatwhichiswhich · 28/08/2023 17:30

They’re talking shit. There won’t be another lockdown, the pandemic might flair up again but it’s harmless for the vast majority of people. Elderly and vulnerable might need to shield the same way they’d need to shield from the flu though. Pandemics come and go, it was the disproportional fear reaction that was insane about the entire thing.

Sorry, saying "You'll be fine." Is simply not true. Vaccination helps your immune system fight off covid and usually prevents serious disease, but not in everyone. Also, people can develop long-covid after multiple infections and sometimes just one exposure is all it takes. Latest info shows increase in heart related death up to two years after infection; increased risk of diabetes/diabetes complications and possible increased risk of dementia. There is still a lot to be learned about it. It mutates frequently and is highly contagious. Do all you can to avoid infection and infecting others if you have it. Frankly, I believe the worst is yet to come and will show as chronic illness en masse. No need to panic, just exercise caution. We cannot return to previous life completely. Everything really has changed.
