To take steak for myself to bbq ?

Invited to a bbq … I’m not really a burger hot dog kinda person at all.
Everyone is bringing something, I only really would eat steak from a bbq , can I bring a steak for myself like a veggie would take a veggie burger ? I can’t afford to take steaks for everyone but will bring something else like sides potsto/pasta ?

@Howdoesitworkagain I’m bringing other stuff to share I’m not going with one solitary steak I never suggested that. Im bringing sides and wine , I was just saying I bet if my substitution was as a mushroom and not a nice steak no one would bother !

Again, it’s weird too.

Bumblebeestiltskin · 27/08/2023 17:25

Jesus christ, just stay at home! If you 'can't' eat the host's food and will, presumably, collapse and die if you have one single meal without meat, what's the point of you going?

And I’m saying no, it would still be weird. I’m not sure why you’re finding other peoples posts so difficult to understand 😆

Howdoesitworkagain · 27/08/2023 17:31

@Melmi256 you’re getting yourself confused now 😂
“I’m not going with one solitary steak I never suggested that”

yes you did, it’s right there in your OP:
“can I bring a steak for myself”

Everyone’s being trying to help you understand the concept of bringing food to share and you don’t seem to be getting it.

Dpace · 27/08/2023 17:40

I also think you should have your steak just before you leave for the BBQ to satisfy your urge, then you won't be as agitated when there and can have some side dishes to look as though you're fitting in with social norms. You could always have some more steak at home ready to cook as soon as you get in if you feel you haven't had enough.

I don't think you can take some to a shared event and ringfence it for yourself.

@Howdoesitworkagain she has said repeatedly that she is taking other food and drinks to share.

Janieforever · 27/08/2023 17:41

Op, you obviously know deep down it’s not ok, else you’d not have started a thread and asked. I’m not sure why you’re now arguing with everyone 😏

HowlingPig · 27/08/2023 17:41

@Howdoesitworkagain she has said repeatedly that she is taking other food and drinks to share.

Yes but also still trying to justify taking a steak for herself too. Absurd.

longestlurkerever · 27/08/2023 17:45

At the same time as agreeing with the general consensus that this would be rude, I do feel like it's not the most enormous deal if OP is determined. Takes steak, is considered rude, everyone gets on with their life. It's not like it's really hurting anyone. This thread has got a bit over invested.

HowlingPig · 27/08/2023 17:53

Howdoesitworkagain · 27/08/2023 17:42

So long as she takes other stuff to share I don’t think it’s rude or absurd. If anything it’s leaving more of what the host has provided for everyone else 🤷‍♀️. I think people are just looking for things to be offended by here.

Melmi256 · 27/08/2023 17:56

@Howdoesitworkagain but i never said just the steak on its own … and I am getting it …. I’ve literally said I’m doing steak and halloumi kebabs !

OP posts:
Melmi256 · 27/08/2023 18:04

@HowlingPig thank you ! I didn’t think it was the worst thing in the world either of I’m taking other stuff . After feedback on here obviously im not doing it.

OP posts:
RugglesB · 27/08/2023 18:06

I'm the kebabs is the perfect solution.

Qilin · 27/08/2023 18:30

Who the hell bbq’s a steak? Is this a thing?😂

Why wouldn't you, if you like meat?
I wouldn't suggest what the op has - taken your own steak to a bbq.

However, dh and dd both eat meat and love a nice fillet steak.
Cooks beautifully, and fast, on our bbq and apparently tastes amazing. Dd then tops hers with a lump of blue cheese and lets it melt over the top.

We also other things like a salmon steak, a seared tuna fillet, scallops and king prawns. Dh will cook various cuts of meat.

Also means less mess in the kitchen!

A bbq meal doesn't have to mean burnt cheap sausages and burgers. It's perfectly normal to also use the BBQ to cook decent cuts of meat/fish too as part of a meal.

No she did not! She said repeatedly, in fact, over and over and over again, that she was taking sides and a bottle of wine. Go back and read her posts.

Howdoesitworkagain · 27/08/2023 17:42

Yes but also still trying to justify taking a steak for herself too. Absurd.

Again, read the thread. She said she wouldn't take any steak for herself, and stopped justifying it pages ago!

Janieforever · 27/08/2023 17:41

She isn't arguing with everyone. She said pages ago she wouldn't do it, and other posters are STILL arguing with her!

Sueveneers · 27/08/2023 18:42

Why can't people read posts and follow a thread, instead of repeating things that have been settled pages ago? This happens all the time on this site.

3dogsandarabbit · 27/08/2023 18:51

Yes, I think it's fine depending on how well you know the hosts. At family BBQs I take fish for myself, as I'm not a great meat eater. However if I didn't know the hosts that well then I wouldn't.

CostedStrikeRate · 27/08/2023 18:51

Are there not burgers which are mostly made of steak? Can't you take 6 of those?

CrazyArmadilloLady · 27/08/2023 18:55

Sueveneers · 27/08/2023 18:41

She isn't arguing with everyone. She said pages ago she wouldn't do it, and other posters are STILL arguing with her!

She is still trying to justify it - she just said a couple of posts up that she bets people wouldn’t have an issue if she just took just one portobello mushroom…. (OP - that is just as weird as taking one steak).

Howdoesitworkagain · 27/08/2023 19:16

Now sueveneers is arguing with everyone on behalf of the OP or maybe she is the OP
😂

Melmi256 · 27/08/2023 19:22

@Sueveneers thank you ! Someone who can read properly 🤣 I took the feedback pretty early on :)
