Been watching the series on Netflix and really like her, she seems smart and strong and puts up with a lot. The only thing I don’t understand is allowing the kids to go to Tyson’s fights, he even says he doesn’t want them there.
Has anyone else seen the series?
it’s made me really intrigued about the traveller lifestyle and how things must be for females

I watched it and loved it.

I think she is fab!

hungryalways23 · 25/08/2023 22:41

I get a really good vibe from her. She's strong and has her principles. Very likeable and stunning to look at. The only thing I'd question is her choice of baby names....

I don't agree with the kids seeing their dad fighting, that's really wrong. But I guess it's a cultural thing.

Beachorpoolhey · 25/08/2023 22:42

@Glitterybee Me too!

At the start I really wasn’t keen on Tyson and felt v sorry for her having to manage moods etc, but he grew on me a bit, he was quite sweet and romantic deep down, quite an interesting relationship

He seems like a pain in the arse. She seems nice enough and of course comes from a 'stand by your man' culture so most likely is with him for the long haul, but I've seen a few threads with people raving over her and I don't really get it.

shitt · 25/08/2023 22:51

I haven’t watched all of it, but hats off to her for essentially being a single parent of 6 as he seems quite erratic and absent. I like her interactions with her kids. Paris and Tyson definitely know how to push each other’s buttons and rile each other up

lol those posters are probably in similar relationships so like her for putting up with the things they do

I think she accepts her situation and just deals with it, whether it be Tysons mental health or choices regarding her role as a traveller. I actually found it refreshing when she said to her daughter “ you can be who you want, a career person or a stay at home mother but I want to make sure you’re prepared for both choices” because whether the modern world likes to agree or not people may choose to be a housewife, it’s still a valid choice. She’s brilliant I totally agree. She has the patience of s saint though.

But didn’t she take her daughter out of school/education (I’m going to guess she isn’t bringing tutors in to educate her at home or teaching her daughter herself all she needs to pass her GCSEs?) - how is that preparing her to be anything other than a “housewife”.

Beachorpoolhey · 25/08/2023 23:00

Is her Dd not as school?

I don’t understand why they do that?

Dee9409 · 25/08/2023 23:06

Thats a really good point actually, didn’t think of that. Mmmmm however maybe she thinks there’s another route to being successful- running your own business etc maybe.

Totalwasteofpaper · 25/08/2023 23:08

I have a lot of respect for her. She came across so so well in the show

Travellers all stop school after primary. The girls learn to cook and keep house because they want to marry and the boys learn their fathers trade.

I like that she is pushing Venezuela to make a choice - because she doesnt want to marry and follow that path. Paris said thats fine but what do you want to do? You cant do nothing that isn't an option. You can't mooch off your father - you have to work for yourself.

Boomboom22 · 25/08/2023 23:13

Hard disagree she is not a good role model. I don't think the law should allow girls from one culture to leave school at year 9, it's unacceptable. The conflict I've seen with her and Tyson is he wants the kids to grow up with a bit more standard values and education whereas she pushes the traditional way.

Boomboom22 · 25/08/2023 23:14

As a secondary teacher who has taught at schools all the local travellers go to the girls 50 50 stop in year 9 or stay to gcse. The boys stay to yr11 if they can. Maybe some leave after primary, I wouldn't see them.

Motherland2624 · 25/08/2023 23:15

She is a dumb woman
puts up with his mental health issues and his affairs and other children

Mindovermatter247 · 25/08/2023 23:17

I think she’s great, I defo wouldn’t think I could live with Tyson, his mood swings, his spontaneity, changing his mind 24/7 … I wouldn’t be able to deal with that. She’s the backbone to that family. I do like him though…

He says a womans place is in the kitchen or on her back and once joked that Paris was at home chained to the bed. How fucking sweet.

Prescottdanni123 · 25/08/2023 23:18

She doesn't think girls should stay in school past the age 11 before education is pointless for girls. They should focus on being wives rather than getting a good education as far as she is concerned.

He’s a misogynistic homophobic Pratt and a bit like Colleen Rooney she puts up
with him due to conditioning, lifestyle, who knows.

Not someone I want to see on screen or held up as a role model - and I love boxing.
