Been watching the series on Netflix and really like her, she seems smart and strong and puts up with a lot. The only thing I don’t understand is allowing the kids to go to Tyson’s fights, he even says he doesn’t want them there.
Has anyone else seen the series?
it’s made me really intrigued about the traveller lifestyle and how things must be for females

I still don’t understand how it’s legal to take a 12 year old out of school.

Yeah this is the thing I can’t get past. I have no meaningful opinions on this family and I haven’t (and probably won’t) watch the series.

But cultural or not, I can’t make peace with people who actively discourage their female children from learning, developing their brains, developing their interests and having a chance at some financial autonomy. And make it very hard for them to avoid being funnelled into a throwback culture where all they can do is have lots of children and depend on their husbands. Particularly if the husband is a serial cheat. Just no.

Proudgypsy · 26/08/2023 08:29

FFS are you people all still living the same lives that your grandparents did in the 1950s? Well neither are we !!!!!

He seems like a pain in the arse. She seems nice enough and of course comes from a 'stand by your man' culture so most likely is with him for the long haul, but I've seen a few threads with people raving over her and I don't really get it.

I think it’s due to her being so very different from other reality stars. Whereas other reality stars declare they are “down to earth” Paris doesn’t & it’s not needed. Paris is seen standing peeling spuds, lugging suitcases, shopping at Aldi & not one word is uttered about those matters. This brings her actions in-line with the people watching, they do stuff like that and it makes her relatable. Even though she has more expensive holidays and private jets.

that’s why I believe Paris has become so popular. Imo Paris is very attractive but her clothing choices, extremely well presented are to my mind from the 1980/1990s era

Livelovebehappy · 26/08/2023 08:33

I’m sure there as an episode where she said her daughter was home schooled after leaving primary, although I didn’t see evidence of it when they were filming.

And her hair could look so much better. It’s very brassy and looks like it could do with a bit more styling.

LizzieSiddal · 26/08/2023 08:51

It was obvious she had no time for it. It was kept in a (- albeit-glamorous) Pen in the garden and she said she would never walk a dog as she would never pick up it's

The dog belongs to Tyson. Why should she be responsible for it?! It’s also a massive Rottweiler which she doesn’t want or like. Why the heck should she want a dog like that in the house when she’s got 6 Dc including babies and toddlers running around. She’d be a neglectful mother to allow it in the home!

Edited

Someone linked it upthread, doesn’t look like a massive Rottweiler Confused

Totally agree. My own culture is not so keen on female education and autonomy, Therefore I have distanced myself from that aspect of it, and criticise it. That is not racist.

AnnieKayTee · 26/08/2023 09:04

The dog in filming is the rottweiler that lives in the pen in the garden. I haven't seen that little chihuahua? in the episodes at all.

@CherryMaDeara the post I was referring to is talking about their other dog which is a Rottweiler and kept outside in a pen. It was seen lots of times in the tv programme. The dog you’ve posted, was never seen in the tv programme.

Custardslices · 26/08/2023 09:18

How do travellers legally pull their children out of education?

Reality TV series are not reality. How many past shows have come out to say the whole episode was faked for viewers? Newlyweds were one.

Gahhhhereheisagain · 26/08/2023 09:33

Ah yes the classic 'we love diversity but only if those minority groups act just like us' part of MN.
I don't think many traveller families drag their children out of education. It's usually a joint decision with the child. You model what you see, if most men in your family work in a trade, most of the women stay in the home, why would you not do the same? Most of us, as a rule, end up in similar situations to those we grow up around. There's relatively few children who are the product of people who don't work and live in really deprived areas who end up in Oxbridge, that's just a statistical fact.

In the Philippines many people have children, give them to their parents to raise and then move abroad to work and earn more money to send home. This is very unlike British society where we ask grandparents to schedule bi-monthly visits six months in advance, is that wrong too? British culture does not hold all the answers!

I work full time and send my kids off to breakfast club, holiday club, after-school club. I would never dream of telling a stay at home mum like Paris that she had it 'wrong' and that I'm right. There's problems with both choices.

I am part of a minority group, and as I said, I am bringing my DD up to be more British in terms of education and independence. I have kept my food, language, and closeness to family.

Your Phillipine example is misplaced, I think. The women who do that do it because they are desperately poor and have no choice. Just like my grandmother had 8 children because she had no choice. I see no reason to glamourize a lack of choice under the umbrella of "diversity".

RJnomore1 · 26/08/2023 09:42

Girls leave school early so they can be taught to keep the home clean, understand that the husband rules the roost, and that she can’t go out with friends. Allowing girls to be educated goes against this.

They do go out with friends after marriage. At school there's rusk of mixing with the locals and becoming like them. Travellers look down on gorgers,, they perceived as not having the same morals
They get a bit of freedom when they are married.

Beachorpoolhey · 26/08/2023 09:50

@RJnomore1 In what way?

OP posts:
pickledandpuzzled · 26/08/2023 09:51

So under pressure to marry young to get some freedom then?

And if they look down on Gorger surely that's racist too?

Beachorpoolhey · 26/08/2023 09:52

@CherryMaDeara No 😂been on here for years, just name changed. I did like the series, but now all these things people are saying is putting me off a bit!

Like most patriarchal cultures across the world. This isn't something we should be defending.

Also, OP, Paris "puts up with a lot" is hardly something to be admired.

If you live with someone who suffers from mental health then you would know his behaviours are the norm and if you live the person your with you deal with it the best you can

Lol, ‘freedom’ in this case meaning swapping one prison for another. No realistic option to decide to live differently though, is there? To decide against marriage and/or having children? To live as an independent adult answerable to neither husband nor parent?

Same here, I’m from a minority Asian culture. I have female aunts who were taken out of education as pre-teens and have seen the terrible effect on their lives and always dependent on husbands and children. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.

My aunts have seen their female children and grandchildren become doctors, nurses, air stewardesses, teachers, retail managers etc.

Try telling my aunts what happened to them is acceptable because it is cultural, they will disagree vehemently.

You clearly have a lot of hatred for a group you know absolutely nothing about since everything you're saying is utter nonsense.
