Kids just ate raw fucking chicken pops feel so guilty

I'm a terrible mum. I just picked them up 🤷 as I thought they were the cooked version 🤢. They ate the whole pack before the guy told me. It's going to be a long messy weekend. 😭 They are going to be unwell and it's all my fault

@mrsbyers do you normally cook your food in acid?? 😂

Thats the best thing I’ve read on the internet today 😂

If you like ceviche, yes 😂

Though that tends to use lime juice, not coke

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 24/08/2023 17:42

Hopefully your DC will be OK OP.

This happened to us once - I had bought some SFC breadcrumbed chicken steaks which were in the fridge, ready for me to cook for tea and DS came back from school and ate two of them thinking they were the ones I bought sometimes ready cooked. I called 111 to ask their advice and they said just to monitor . DS was a few years older than your DC (which may have a bearing) but he was absolutely fine .

I agree they should put a clear warning on the packet .

bluebellart · 24/08/2023 17:44

Try not to panic and just keep an eye on how they are. The majority of raw chicken actually doesn't contain problematic bacteria anyway, it's only some. Also, as others have said, these might well have been part cooked anyway. Chances are, they will be absolutely fine. If not, they will just have an upset tummy for a day or two. They'll be OK. You're not a bad parent.

Fecksakereallygodreally · 24/08/2023 17:44

@Defiantjazz they didn't smell raw to me. 🤷. Yeah they have sensitive pallets so I'm assuming they would spit it out. But it's happened now x

The phosphoric acid in coke won’t protect against salmonella. It’ more of a passive aggressive dig at Op for buying such things like chicken pops rather than being vegan most likely.
@oakleaffy

Pretty sure the comment about the acid in the coke cooking the chicken was a joke .

Lachimolala · 24/08/2023 17:48

I’ve eaten raw KFC before and I was okay! Perhaps if I was less drunk I would’ve noticed it was pink and raw in the middle. Perhaps they’ll be okay? Or maybe just a tummy ache? Hope so anyway.

And like PP I swear by flat lemonade for an upset stomach!

Marleymoo42 · 24/08/2023 17:48

If it makes you feel better I made the same mistake and bit into one when pregnant.

My flatmate once had very severe food poisoning and the gp recommended her drinking those yakult drinks. She drank the whole pack and felt loads better! Maybe have those at the ready!

Fecksakereallygodreally · 24/08/2023 17:50

I wouldn't touch em with a barchpole myself. I've my own stuff with food. But I'm relieved I'm not the only one to make this mistake makes me feel better

KnittedCardi · 24/08/2023 17:50

P's saying it's crap food...... It's 60% chicken, breadcrumbs and seasoning. Not really anything to be ashamed of, and pretty close to home made.

SamPoodle123 · 24/08/2023 17:51

Yikes, once when my MIL cooked a chicken dinner, I saw the chicken had pink bits, including pieces the kids had...they noticed as well so stopped eating...but we were not sure if they had already had some, as it was mixed w pasta and cut up. They were fine though, thankfully!!!! I hope your dc will be fine too.

Chellybelle · 24/08/2023 17:51

Why would you assume they were ready to eat if you picked them up in the chilled section next to other chicken products that need cooking, eg chicken kievs, nuggets etc? And didn't they taste horrible uncooked?

Fecksakereallygodreally · 24/08/2023 17:53

@Chellybelle they were reduced. If you read the thread you would know I don't eat them. The kids said nothing just wolfed them down. Was stressed..monsoon rain and thunder. Was just happy to be inside!

Would raw chicken not taste awful and be hard to eat/chew?

Braveheart35 · 24/08/2023 17:55

Fecksakereallygodreally · 24/08/2023 16:28

The ones from Waitrose they were reduced.

I picked up a box of chorizo bites from the supermarket. Assumed they were cooked. Turns out I ate raw ones all the way home. I was fine, fortunately. I did think they were a bit soft...

Harpings · 24/08/2023 17:58

The ones we bought once were in a very similar cube sized packet those M&S picnic sausage rolls etc. the packaging in these things really are confusing sometimes

VeridicalVagabond · 24/08/2023 18:00

When I was 5 I got into the fridge when mam wasn't paying attention and ate two raw chicken drumsticks before she noticed. I was pretending to be a lion, I believe. I was fine!

Those things are partially cooked, the chicken is likely to be good quality, and mostly breading anyway, they'll be alright OP. Don't beat yourself up too much, mistakes are easily made.

This is so funny 😂

LondonLovie · 24/08/2023 17:13

Raw chicken is a delicacy in Japan if that helps?

I imagine it would be very high welfare?

ohcrums · 24/08/2023 18:03

On the plus side at least your kid's sensory issues didn't mean they were put off the odd texture so maybe they might try breaded something else?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 24/08/2023 18:05

Prescottdanni123 · 24/08/2023 17:01

@MadNads

Coke can actually be useful in killing bacteria in the stomach. Don't completely understand the science of it but a friend of mine swears by it.

The stomach has its own acid, don't dilute that with coke!

Nugg · 24/08/2023 18:06

My poor old dad ate raw ready meals until we realised and lived far longer than anticipated with no I'll effects. You probably feel worse than they will xx

Lucy377 · 24/08/2023 18:06

They are partially cooked to cook the crumb coating. They are small bite sized.
So they are not that not far off being cooked through.

Paul2023 · 24/08/2023 18:06

I may be a bit dim hear but if the chicken has bread crumbs on them, haven’t they already been cooked in the factory?
Like a lot of restaurant food is pre cooked, they just heat them up.
