I'm a terrible mum. I just picked them up 🤷 as I thought they were the cooked version 🤢. They ate the whole pack before the guy told me. It's going to be a long messy weekend. 😭 They are going to be unwell and it's all my fault

I’d give them a big glass of coke to drink - the acid in that may help to cook the chicken internally

😂😂😂

AbsoluteYawns · 24/08/2023 16:54

Your definitely not a terrible mum. These things can happen and it sounds like you have a lot on.
I hope the kids are OK. if you feel they get ill at least you know what it is due to and can get the right help.
Good luck OP.

Drttc · 24/08/2023 16:56

I’ve eaten raw chicken that was served (intentionally) in Japan :-) It won’t make you ill unless it has something wrong with it to begin with.

Prescottdanni123 · 24/08/2023 17:01

@MadNads

Coke can actually be useful in killing bacteria in the stomach. Don't completely understand the science of it but a friend of mine swears by it.

Thewizardbinbag · 24/08/2023 17:01

They’ll probably be fine. There does have to be something wrong with the chicken for you to actually get ill, not like wrong wrong but enough that it needs cooking. It’s a higher risk than beef etc. But, the really probably will be fine.

Fecksakereallygodreally · 24/08/2023 17:02

Think my kids would love the coke! But they might not sleep 😴. Thank you all for being nice 🙏.

🤣🤣🤣🤔 you can't be for real, surely 😆😆

Mydustymonstera · 24/08/2023 17:03

Honestly the big glass of fizzy coke might help. Don’t know how. It’s backpacker lore when eating dodgy street food!

Fecksakereallygodreally · 24/08/2023 17:03

@Lollopin oh my fucking god. Your mum sounds deranged! I hope you and your sister are happier now and less posioned!

The phosphoric acid in coke won’t protect against salmonella.
It’ more of a passive aggressive dig at Op for buying such things like chicken pops rather than being vegan most likely.

OP hope your kids will be ok.

Fecksakereallygodreally · 24/08/2023 17:04

I've heard flat coke for an upset tummy. And mustard / vicks on the feet.

DivingForLove · 24/08/2023 17:05

@mrsbyers do you normally cook your food in acid?? 😂

Thats the best thing I’ve read on the internet today 😂

Prescottdanni123 · 24/08/2023 17:07

@SunWorshipping

I know a few people who swear by it when they go abroad to places that are famous for causing stomach bugs in foreigners.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 24/08/2023 17:07

If it makes you feel any better, my Gran did this to me and DSis when we were kids, and despite everyone fearing the worst we didn’t have so much as a gurgle between us. Worst case scenario is not always certainty.

DigbyTheDigger · 24/08/2023 17:08

You should give them a spoon of Vicks, OP, that will kill everything! Grin

ilovemydogmore · 24/08/2023 17:08

put a hot water bottle on their tummies to try and cook it OP... 😂and a glass of VERY hot milk

Prescottdanni123 · 24/08/2023 17:08

@DivingForLove

It won't cook the chicken, but there is evidence that coke can kill off bacteria in the stomach.

Boiledeggandtoast · 24/08/2023 17:08

Your stomach is naturally far more acidic than coca cola.

ilovemydogmore · 24/08/2023 17:09

Jokes aside, they might be ill, they might not. It's done now, so panicking and crying is only going to make them feel frightened. Just chill and do what you can to be prepared for potential upset stomachs.

oakleaffy · 24/08/2023 17:09

Yes, flat sugary coke - but Dioralyte is much more effective at rehydration. If you can get kids to drink it !

Run4it2 · 24/08/2023 17:10

My elderly neighbour age raw marinated chicken (poor sight) and was absolutely fine - so they may get away with it!

That'll speed up Christmas lunch. Does it work for vegetables too?

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 24/08/2023 17:12

They'll only get sick if that particular chicken was infected by bacteria before cooking - try not to worry too much.

I'm surprised they ate an entire packet of almost raw chicken though Confused
