Kids just ate raw fucking chicken pops feel so guilty

I'm a terrible mum. I just picked them up 🤷 as I thought they were the cooked version 🤢. They ate the whole pack before the guy told me. It's going to be a long messy weekend. 😭 They are going to be unwell and it's all my fault

@DivingForLove

It won't cook the chicken, but there is evidence that coke can kill off bacteria in the stomach.

Not strong enough to kill bacteria - as PP have said stomach acid is far superior and still parasites and bacteria survive.

LondonLovie · 24/08/2023 17:13

Raw chicken is a delicacy in Japan if that helps?

Randomnamehere · 24/08/2023 17:17

DivingForLove · 24/08/2023 17:05

@mrsbyers do you normally cook your food in acid?? 😂

Thats the best thing I’ve read on the internet today 😂

You can cook prawns in lime juice (on the beach).

No idea if coke would work here though, as the stomach contains acid anyway.

Fecksakereallygodreally · 24/08/2023 17:17

@ilovemydogmore yes I know. I wouldn't normally do it, but I'm under a lot of mental stress atm with other stuff. And I'm feeling like I'm a terrible mother atm due to other stuff. So I'm not as controlled as normal

I did this a few years ago. I posted an almost exact same thread on here. Also phoned doctor for advice who said you will just have to wait and treat symptoms. Kids were completely fine. No symptoms at all.

Neverseenbefore · 24/08/2023 17:20

I’d expect the vast majority of people to be completely fine.

Madwife123 · 24/08/2023 17:20

Don’t beat yourself up. It happens!

I once fed my daughter dog chocolate by mistake. She picked it up and asked for it when I was particularly harassed so I said yes and it was only when she gave me her rubbish after finishing it that I saw for dogs on it.

Never lived that one down.

CherryMaDeara · 24/08/2023 17:20

I think it's the breadedness that confused you. I think they'll be fine. Maybe Waitrose cooked them a bit as they only need 13 mins in the oven? <hopeful>

Fecksakereallygodreally · 24/08/2023 17:21

@Harpings Im glad it went well. 😊. I'm not going to call 111 or anything unless they start showing symptoms. Think they need a big warning ⚠️ sign!

Clawdy · 24/08/2023 17:22

I think eating uncooked chicken is possibly less risky than partially cooked - but not sure.

Harpings · 24/08/2023 17:22

The pack we had was also called chicken pops I think it was Morrison’s maybe. They really do look cooked but the small print says otherwise. It’s an easy mistake

Fecksakereallygodreally · 24/08/2023 17:22

@Madwife123 sorry that made me chuckle 🤭. I remember going to the pub and they put their hand in the dog biscuits jar and are about 4 each. 😂. So they have form.

When I was a teen I used to regularly eat Bernard Matthews Turkey drummers. I didn't realise they had to be white all the way through and often ate them pink 🤢 they never once made me ill so don't assume the dc will get sick.

BrokenWing · 24/08/2023 17:25

Fecksakereallygodreally · 24/08/2023 16:29

4 and 7. They have sensory issues with food so I try all the varieties and add them to the safe list. I tried making my own in the air fryer but they weren't accepted.. just hope it doesn't back fire on me.

You cooking must be bad if they prefer raw chicken! 😉

Its done, they will either be ill or not. Mostly likely they won't be, but if they are at least you know why and can respond appropriately. Easier said than done but try not to worry to much.

HelpMeGetThrough · 24/08/2023 17:27

Bootiful!

Saucery · 24/08/2023 17:27

DS ate those once. He was much older though. Thought they were the ready to eat ones. He was fine. All you can do is treat symptoms if they appear, like the Dr said to a pp.

becarefulofyourheart · 24/08/2023 17:28

OP, my sibs and I once ate properly raw chicken (like, it was semi-cooked on top but cold and pink and jellyish underneath, we just tried to avoid the bloodiest bits by shoving it under the mash) because we didn’t want to upset the cook. We didn’t even have the runs. It’s not a definite they’ll be ill, keeping the fingers crossed.

BumpHeads · 24/08/2023 17:32

Yes I really wouldn't worry too much. I'm sure I've read similar threads before and there were plenty of stories of DC who had done the same and were fine. Raw chicken puts the fear of God in people but it is absolutely not a guarantee to make them ill.

DH fed undercooked chicken skewers to my toddler the other day as he is so blasé about stuff like that. it was still pink and horrible in the middle. Nothing happened. I'd be even less worried about something ultra processed like pop chicken.

Fecksakereallygodreally · 24/08/2023 17:33

Calming down now! Some kids can cope being sick but mine can't they get absolutely terrified. All these stories make me feel somewhat comforted. But also queasy 🤢 ha ha can't win! Btw if you have a home made breadcrumb.chicken pop recipe feel free to share!

DoAWheelie · 24/08/2023 17:34

Keep an eye on them for at least a week. I once did the same but it was 5 days before I got sick.

I've actually done it several times. I'm dyslexic and often transpose numbers so I get cooking times wrong a lot, but I only got sick from it that one time - the rest I was fine. OH does all the cooking timers for me now!

Brieandcamembert · 24/08/2023 17:36

Chalk this one up to experience and use it as an excuse to get them off that sort of food.

Fecksakereallygodreally · 24/08/2023 17:37

@DoAWheelie me too I still have trouble telling the time! I always have my trusted thermometer with me! In the kitchen obviously not Waitrose 🙈

I’d give them a big glass of coke to drink - the acid in that may help to cook the chicken internally

I'd better take my oven back to Curry's because it's been using heat to cook the food!! Wish I'd known it was supposed to spray Cola all over my dinner.

Fecksakereallygodreally · 24/08/2023 17:38

@Brieandcamembert piss off! I'm proud of my kids and the fact their pallete has increased to other foods. Which aren't upf. but if you read the thread you would know I have tried hm versions 🖕

OP posts:
Defiantjazz · 24/08/2023 17:41

Are you sure they were raw? I’m not sure anyone would eat raw chicken without noticing. Maybe they had been cooked but should have been reheated?

i don’t think how digestion works 😂
