Dogs in Greggs

Globules · 23/08/2023 08:29

I'm in Greggs getting my free O2 coffee. There's a dog next to the counter.

Surely dogs in open food places shouldn't be allowed?

YABU - of course all dogs can go in these places
YANBU - dogs have no place there

(Awaits the Greggs comments...🤣)

Doesn’t bother me in the slightest. They generally don’t cause Agro. Don’t run around barking and misbehaving. They’re just ‘there’. I really can’t see why people find them an inconvenience in shops.

Username1107 · 23/08/2023 18:50

this is it. You’re within your rights too. But maybe 70% of people don’t want the dog in there. So they’ll sit there thinking you’re entitled because you don’t need to take the dog to (insert stupid place to take a dog but do it anyway because the business allows it) here.

Oh gosh, I'm not going to spend my time worrying about what other people think about me doing something that I'm allowed to do.

I say this as a dog lover, but I’ve seen an increasing number of dogs in motorway service stations and wonder why they can’t be left in the car, unless it is hot in which case there’s plenty of outdoor seating.

@KimberleyClark
there's absolutely no way I'd leave a dog in the car at the services. dog theft is common and in the time it would take me to walk over to the building, have a wee & grab a coffee, the dog could easily be taken. No way would I risk that. I'm not sure why you think it's a problem to take them into motorway services.

i wish I lived where half of you do, I only rarely see a dog in a 'proper' shop.

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 23/08/2023 18:56

A while ago I reluctantly went to a cafe which allowed dogs. We had placed an order and sat down. Next thing, the member of staff walked to the next table with a bowl of water which was slopping over her fingers. Put it on the floor, fussed the dog, fished a biscuit out of her apron pocket and fed it to the dog. Then walked back and immediately started cutting our slices of cake.

She was bewildered when I asked for a refund and we walked out.

Valerie23 · 23/08/2023 19:00

More dogs please!

Don't go to the Lakes, dogs are allowed almost everywhere. Except Wetherspoons.

That is very true.

From the way the Spoons mag reads, lots of people continually complain at the MD for his no dog rule, but he's holding firm. He takes the line it's a food establishment, so dogs (assistant dogs being the exception) are not welcome. Not even in the beer gardens.

Goes some way to make up for his poor Brexit behaviour.

Any owner who observes hygiene gets brownie points from me.

I am fed up of going to a crowded London cafe with some dog standing up with their paws on the counter. Gross.

Dunnoburt · 23/08/2023 19:46

So bored of dogs....yesterday one with apparently bad recall decided to ransack myself and my mates kids lunch from the pushchair..... not even an apology..... hungry kids....pissed off parents......extremely pissed off parents......well trained and behaved dogs absolutely no problem with....

GreekDogRescue · 23/08/2023 19:48

What’s the problem?
you don’t have enough to worry you if this bothers you.
do you complain about guide dogs as well?

I think people behave like this at home, allow dogs in their beds etc so forget that not everybody wants their food handled by dog-hands.

Dunnoburt · 23/08/2023 20:01

@NeverTrustAPoliceman yeah.....that's actually grim.....🤢🤮

I’d think more likely that he doesn’t want a dog bite on his premises.

also to answer why are people bothered? Probably because people have a right to go shopping without facing a dog at every turn. They are non essential entities unless working dogs and it’s pretty selfish to make other people put up with them just because the owner hasn’t done the training for them to be alone for more than 5 minutes without tearing up the house with anxiety.

the establishment may allow all sorts of things; doesn’t mean it’s sociable or good manners. Vaping is banned indoors for similar reasons and that’s without the risk of bites.

Elfandwellbeing · 23/08/2023 20:06

YADNBU I am so fed up of finding dogs in almost every cafe these days. I even saw someone carrying their dog in a baby carrier !! Dogs can be left on their own sometimes !

SpringSparrow · 23/08/2023 08:39

Twice in the last month, I’ve gone into Cafe Nero and there’s been a different dog on the leather sofa. I don’t think they should be allowed on the couches.

Euw no, that's ridiculous.

Lordofmyflies · 23/08/2023 20:25

I really don't mind seeing dogs in shops. We are in Cornwall and lots of shops allow dogs here. I guess its because people come on holiday with their dog and aren't allowed to leave their dog unsupervised in the holiday home / caravan etc. Its not as easy as 'leave them at home' if the owner isn't at home in the first place!

Mamabear48 · 24/08/2023 13:44

Gross absolutely not unless it’s a guide dog

Heb1996 · 24/08/2023 14:19

@asterdaisy leave them at home????

TinkerbellefromYorkshire · 24/08/2023 14:43

Why? I've encountered some right smelly people in these places .. much worse than dogs

They don't jump up at you and lick your face though.

Songbird54321 · 24/08/2023 19:30

I adore animals, including dogs, but I’m allergic so I do find it difficult with more and more people allowing dogs everywhere. I’m fine if it’s a take out place but I’d really struggle if we were sat eating next to one for a while.
I wouldn’t entertain buying from a clothes shop that allowed dogs in the slightest! I’d be red raw!
So no, YANBU.

Most dogs don’t either.
Iv never been jumped on by a dog while out in a cafe or shop.

FlyingPandas · 24/08/2023 20:52

YANBU, OP.

The UK is far too dog friendly now, IMO. It's become ridiculous.

I have absolutely no issue with well-behaved dogs in country pubs, or open-air cafes. I cannot understand why people think their dog will enjoy an outing to White Stuff.

I think a lot of the time it's just laziness- they can't be bothered to take the poor dog for a proper healthy good quality walk, so they yomp to their local high street instead and drag it round the shops.
