Dogs in Greggs

Globules · 23/08/2023 08:29

I'm in Greggs getting my free O2 coffee. There's a dog next to the counter.

Surely dogs in open food places shouldn't be allowed?

YABU - of course all dogs can go in these places
YANBU - dogs have no place there

(Awaits the Greggs comments...🤣)

What I find really amazing is that this thread is split 60/40 with the majority absolutely hating dogs here. Conversely, when I take my dog somewhere like a pub or a shop or a park then 95% of people we meet start cooing over him and want to say hello and pet him. The 5% we move away from. So it's really interesting how this is a dog haters-assemble forum 😁

I absolutely love dogs but hate that people bring them everywhere especially to indoor places they usually wouldn't be as I'd have to leave.
Also dog hair where there is food is gross . But in a park or outdoors, even beer gardens, then absolutely crack on

@icallitasplodge, it goes without saying that I wouldn't take my dog anywhere that would be upsetting for them! No idea why you would even bring this up! As for upsetting others, well how am I supposed to know before going in that someone might be! As said, if I encounter someone afraid and they express it politely without drama, I would ensure they are nowhere close to them.

@Boomboom22, you need to get some perspective! You can be sure that the table my dog sat on (by the way, they don't shed hair at all!) that's been cleaned afterwards will have much fewer bacteria than the table left after toddlers put their dirty hands on, especially when they have runny noises. Would you tell their mum they are disgusting when their kid put their hands on the seats, table, armrest?

vivainsomnia · 27/08/2023 22:06

Children are HUMAN BEINGS! Yes smaller, and quite frankly more annoying, but people can't (and shouldn't!) leave their children at home alone
Oh I see, so if dad and big sister is at home to look after them, under no circumstances should they be taken to shops or cafes? Even if they enjoy to be there?

How selfish of you! to mirror a poster here. Of course I don't mean it!

Again, not all dogs shed hair. I shed more than my dog does!

Some people have very misguided understanding or hygiene.

Assistance dogs only in shops, IMO. John Lewis has got it very wrong - why would any dog want/need to go to a department store. Dogs are not humans.

I haven't seen any dogs in there yet. It says 'well behaved dogs' I think but I wouldn't dare take our, usually well behaved, dog, in there just in case. 😀

The reason l don’t want to sit at a train table that’s had a dog on it is:

They don’t wear shoes. Walk through all kinds of crap and then have their feet on the table.

Dogs don’t wipe their bums so there could be all sorts round there. Toxicaria?

They shed dander.

Dogs should not be on tables in public spaces where food will be consumed. It honestly makes me feel ill at the thought.

I love dogs to bits and mine sleeps in my bed but letting them sit on the table is too much even for me and I would guess 99% of people. If you keep doing that, you create more and more aversion to dogs in public spaces. As we have seen in this thread, most of the aversion is caused by owners who take it a step too far or misbehaved dogs and then generalized.

If they like the view, get a cushion and put them on your lap.

Even indoors places we get the same response. Obviously I only go to places that allow dogs.

In the same way a 12a film is allowed to be viewed by under 12’s. Great. So apply the same logic to that.

“I WILL bring in my child, to watch this film, regardless of the child’s individual needs or fears, because I want to and nothing in law stops me.” That is being a bad mum.

bringing a dog in to a shop just because you can, is being a bad owner.

The vast majority of dog owners know their dogs well enough to know if they can cope in a shop or not. I bet you hardly notice the ones that are just minding their own business. You see one yappy dog and assume that all dogs in shops are the same.

True. At the moment I would hesitate, but that's because dog is still young.

Meowandthen · 28/08/2023 21:09

TBH it wouldn’t bother me much unless they were serving behind the counter. 🤷🏻‍♀️
