Dogs in Greggs

Globules · 23/08/2023 08:29

I'm in Greggs getting my free O2 coffee. There's a dog next to the counter.

Surely dogs in open food places shouldn't be allowed?

YABU - of course all dogs can go in these places
YANBU - dogs have no place there

(Awaits the Greggs comments...🤣)

People seem to need to take their dogs everywhere now. It’s the ones in prams I can’t get my around. A relative is a vet and the amount of unhealthy pets they see due to lack of exercise and over feeding is frightening. Dogs need good walks not shopping!

newnamethanks · 23/08/2023 08:50

Winchester is a very dog friendly city and dogs allowed in many shops. I never take my male dog into any shops, he will lift his leg without hesitation if he feels like it.

CoreopsisEverywhere · 23/08/2023 08:50

Preferable to the rats at my local Greggs! In fairness to them it did close for months until the rat problem was resolved.

I haven’t seen an anti dog thread in a couple of weeks, which this will inevitable turn into. 😬

I hope not.

I love dogs.

But I would never dream of taking my girl into Greggs. If I was intending on going in there, I'd leave her outside, or would have left her at home in the first place.

I used to love and own dogs, but since COVID I've really come to dislike them. I particularly dislike any kind of "poo" or "doodle" type dog, shittzus and bichon frises. I have also formed a extremely strong dislike of the thing attached via a flimsy retractable bit of string at the other end too. They have no place in shops or places that serve food

😂😂😂 my Bichon is lovely 🥰

But I don't take him shopping or to cafes. We've been to a dog friendly pub once but sat outside.

SomewhereWithSomeone · 23/08/2023 08:53

My son has just said our Greggs let dogs in as he’s asked before and they’ve said yes. And given them a free biscuit a couple of times. 😅

vodkaredbullgirl · 23/08/2023 08:53

Wouldn't take my dogs out to shops, best keeping them home.

flowergirl2020 · 23/08/2023 08:55

I don't have a problem with it. Seen far many more filthy humans in Gregg's than dogs.

HaveYouHeardOfARoadAtlas · 23/08/2023 08:55

I walked into greggs in Keswick with a dog and was immediately turfed out which was fair enough. Keswick is so dog friendly I’d assumed it was ok. Turns out Greggs and Costa are about the only two places in town they can’t go in.

asterdaisy · 23/08/2023 08:56

@Globules please don't leave your dog outside a shop. It's really not safe to do so. Too many dog thefts.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 23/08/2023 09:04

I like dogs and have been a dog owner in the past but how can a shop especially a clothes shop not guarantee there will be dog hair on the clothes after a dog has been in?

I do get slightly tired of some dogs if they’re over friendly especially if I have no idea if they’ll snap or growl.

Last weekend though I was in a wine bar/shop and there was the sweetest friendliest bulldog there… he was just adorable!

I think in a place like Greggs it depends, if they’re the huge big fighting dogs then no, definitely not be allowed there. If it’s a dog that’s in and out and if sitting at outside tables (not indoor) then that’s fine.

allthehops · 23/08/2023 09:05

The problem with "assistance dogs only" is that any old Tom Dick or Harry can buy an assistance dog vest or lead flash from eBay and many do.

We have a woman lives near us who marches into all the shops with her naughty sausage dog wearing an eBay vest. One of her neighbours who lives in the same block said she bought it because they aren't allowed pet dogs in those flats!

topnoddy · 23/08/2023 09:06

I don't think dogs should be allowed in any shops/cafes period apart from guide dogs .

anunlikelyseahorse · 23/08/2023 09:06

I think the issue here is any dog can be an assistant dog as there is no regulation. You can buy a harness that says assistant dog off Amazon easily enough. I think it's starting to become more of an issue and the cf who claim their dog is an assistant dog, are making it much harder for genuine assistance dogs. Local to us a guide dog, got attacked by another so called assistant dog...I mean obviously an aggressive dog is clearly not an assistant dog, but the cf owner of the aggressive dog, weren't having any of it.
I think it's getting to the stage that dogs, which are not trained by affiliated organisations, should go through an assessment process and registered in someway.

VivaLesTartes · 23/08/2023 09:07

Just don't tell my dog. We have a tough job keeping her out of Greg's!

newnamethanks · 23/08/2023 09:07

I occasionally leave my dog outside a small grocery nearby. You can probably hear him screaming from wherever you live. Nobody has ever tried to steal him but he can attract a small crowd of concerned people in seconds. 9 years old and as needy as ever.

Totally off thread but you've just reminded me, my SIM provider is being taken over by. 02 and I cannot wait for my free coffees Grin

There are many car and bike thefts. I don't take them in shops when it's not allowed.

I can't remember the last time I left her outside a shop tbh, because I don't take my dog shopping.

It's not anti-dog to prefer to see dogs on walks, in parks, playing, or snoozing somewhere suitable at home, than in shops, supermarkets or cafes. Dogs don't enjoy shopping, it's their owners who just can't bear to leave them at home/somewhere more suitable. I also wonder how many dogs now get a walk to the shops instead of a proper walk in a park/green area. Service dogs are of course different, as they are working and allow their owners some degree of independence which they might otherwise not have.

FloweryName · 23/08/2023 09:10

I think it’s nice that people can take their dogs to more places now. They rarely do anything to bother anyone else so I can’t see why people have such a problem with it when they’re already in public.

And free bacon rolls at the weekend!!!

asterdaisy · 23/08/2023 09:11

My friendly dog would go with anyone. A friend had a dog stolen in a nearby park. Never got her back. I would never leave my dog outside any shop.
Most people are not going shopping with their dog. They are popping in for a pint of milk or similar on the way back from the park.

What a stupid thing to say. You just made yourself look like a idiot comparing a dog to a car.

GasPanic · 23/08/2023 09:12

Durrr.

How is a dog supposed to get a sausage roll if it can't go in Greggs ?

If it's piggybacking, then I'm sorry to say you won't.

If it is going pure O2, don't forget your weekend bacon roll and currently free popcorn in Asda!
