to think that men are just fucking noisy and I am not "sensitive" to noise?

2 (ex) husbands. 2 Sons. 4 Daughters.

Every single man I have shared a house with has been so sodding noisy! Why simply open a door when you can wrench it open and slam it shut?! Why walk when you can stomp?!

My BIL, my father, my partner (we dont live together by choice), all noisy. My DD's, my sister, my mother, me....we just dont galump around like rhino's on acid.

And no, its not weight or size. Some of the women are larger/heavier than some of the men and yet still seem to manage to navigate their way through the world without sounding like they are invading a nation.

Sick to bloody death of youngest DS (17) wrenching his bedroom door off the hinges, stomping into the bathroom, slamming the doors, stomping down the stairs..... Got cross tonight and he said "yeah, dad said you are oversensitive to noise". FFS, I am a metal fan! Loud noise does not bother me, but unneccessary loud noise does! DS's dad is 2 inches shorter than me, and when we were married, weighed less than me but still managed to make more noise than the audience at a Taylor Swift gig...ok exaggerating but you get the point.

DH is average height and build but makes the noise of an elephant.

Stomps around upstairs, slams the front door, starts talking to me/calling me from whatever room he’s in regardless of where I am in the house.

Grrrr.

TitInATrance · 22/08/2023 09:16

It depends on personality and awareness of one’s environment I suppose. XH used to creep around everywhere doing his best not to interact with anyone, and be very irritated by anyone else’s noise.

Adult DD and I are probably heavier footed than most women, it’s just the way we walk - assertively!

During lockdown, my DP worked upstairs in the spare room and I worked downstairs. The noise he made just typing was quite incredible, every keystroke sounded like someone stamping on the floor above. When he went up or down the stairs, it sounded like a whole regiment.

I'd give anythng to hear those sounds again though. He died nearly 3 years ago.

🙁

I'm very sorry for your loss.

Jamtartforme · 22/08/2023 09:25

YANBU don’t even get me started on how they yell across the street to each other or raise their voice to a ridiculous volume when on the phone in public

Thread summary :

“other peoples noise can be really annoying”
“some people are inconsiderate”

But this being mumsnet, and due to the vast majority posters cohabiting with an adult male rather than an adult female, these staggering insights into human nature are naturally adapted to support the Bad Man Theorem.

My DH sounds like a huge elephant when he moves around and comes downstairs. He sneezes loudly, he coughs loudly, he laughs loudly, etc. 😂

Ugh and yes the fucking sneezing

MsRosley · 22/08/2023 09:28

OMG he bought you a lawnmower for your 30th????

MrsSamR · 22/08/2023 09:29

Does anyone else's husband do the scream sneeze? It makes me and both my DDs jump a mile every time! What is that about??

MsRosley · 22/08/2023 09:30

But to answer your question, girls are socialised from an early age not to take up space in the world, not to womanspread, not to be loud or demanding. To always be considerate and aware of the needs of others. Boys not so much.

Well, I ain't going to co-habit with a female, so the anecdotal evidence that to live with a man equals to having your ears assaulted (and your belongings assaulted) still stands.
That is what it's like for the vast majority of women.

Hippyhippybake · 22/08/2023 09:31

@MrsSamR mine once woke up on entire sleeping Boeing 747 with a scream sneeze.

I agree. What’s more they’re conditioned to believe they’re entitled to the attention of whatever female is in their vicinity. Hence the screaming phone calls and yelling across to road to one another. Oh and the revving engines.

TakeNoNoticeoftheNoise · 22/08/2023 08:45

Yes it works - it's the best choice I ever made. I was worried at first it could damage our relationship, but quite the opposite.

This is literally my dream. He could just pop around to cook in the evening, then leave again after a bit of Netflix.

MillWood85 · 22/08/2023 09:33

I love my husband dearly but wear silicone earplugs a lot of the time at home. He's losing his hearing (58) but won't actually admit to it, so he has no idea of how noisy he is. He's also incredibly clumsy - like an idiot I bought a 18 place setting of Denby plates/bowls and he's broken/chipped at least 40% of them. They don't fit our dishwasher very well (the coupe style plates) so he rams them in Hmm

How embarrassing for you. If that had been mine I would’ve been really pissed off, actually. It’s hard enough to sleep on a plane as it is (let alone if you have a baby or small child with you) without some bloke demanding attention with a stupidly over the top sneeze.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 22/08/2023 09:34

By far the noisiest things in my house are the cats. 2 perfectly normal sized cats, capable of being perfectly still when watching birds, perfectly able to stalk quietly. They cannot walk across the bedroom floor without making as much noise as a herd of rampaging wilderbeast

BygoneDays · 22/08/2023 08:39

They are all such disgusting creatures. Barely more than animals.

And women are all disgusting cheats waiting for the next man to come along - what's your point?
Oh wait, we're only allowed to make sweeping generalisations about men. Got it!

God, this site is the absolute pits when it comes to people's attitudes sometimes.

Hippyhippybake · 22/08/2023 09:35

@Jamtartforme I’m still fuming about it 15 years later!

QueenCamilla · 22/08/2023 09:35

Just have to look at who drives those cars that are modified to sound like a Boeing taking off!
Those cars only exist cause... Male.

rougechaotic · 22/08/2023 09:35

“Galump around like rhinos on acid” 🤣

you have a way with words!

(and I 100% agree with you! My DP is much noisier than me but complains that I clomp around the house 🙄)

Absolute bollocks, like the rest of this thread.

You could always choose to co-habit with a quieter male.

I do not know why so many women choose to partner up and live with men whose habits they can't stand. Did you not think that it might be worth finding someone you actually enjoy being around to share a house with?

HighywayToHell · 22/08/2023 09:39

DP is the total opposite, the man is a ninja, the amount of times i have been in the kitchen and turned around and he is there, i nearly shit myself with shock. Hes not creeping about but is just very quiet in his movements and half the time my jumping from shock makes him jump too.

Now he tries to be a bit more noisy when coming into a room i am already in so as not to scare me as much 😁

He is not a loud cougher or sneezer, the only think i can say he is noisy at is laughing, but i like hearing him laugh so i dont mind.

SallyWD · 22/08/2023 09:39

Not my experience. My daughter's noisy and clumsy. My son is very quiet - you barely notice he's there. I also have a quiet dad and two quiet brothers. I know plenty of loud women.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 22/08/2023 09:40

My DP is quite shy, and doesn't really talk in big groups. We'd been out for a few walks and meals etc, and he was still pretty quiet (I talk a lot, so it's fine Grin).

I was so surprised when I went to his house and discovered he's a kitchen cupboard clatterer.
