Husband has been stung by a wasp

He was stung in the chest while on a bike ride, his mouth has swollen and said he feels like he has just been to the dentist.
I told him it's not right, his arguement is that it happened an hour ago, he won't even take an antihistamine but I think we at least need to call 111
Aibu?

DustyLee123 · 21/08/2023 14:53

ConcernedCatmother · 21/08/2023 14:54

Your husband is a plonker refusing antihistamines

Jojobees · 21/08/2023 14:54

Get some antihistamine in him and head to an and e.
Anaphylaxis isn’t something to mess with

Starlightstarbright2 · 21/08/2023 14:54

Swollen mouth is an a&e job ..

AIstolemylunch · 21/08/2023 14:55

he should seriously take antihistamine

cocksstrideintheevening · 21/08/2023 14:55

Why won't he even take the antihistamine?

Get him to call 111

BuddhaAtSea · 21/08/2023 14:56

Does he have a death wish?!!!
Antihistamines and A&E!

Bleepbloopbluurp · 21/08/2023 14:56

Why won't he at least take antihistamine? Seems pretty simple and sensible.

Wokeuptired · 21/08/2023 14:56

We are on holiday and he is now wanting to go to the beach.
He is an adult and he is telling me he knows his own body.
He is so bloody stubborn

OP posts:
AnneShirleysNewDress · 21/08/2023 14:58

Take him to A&E and tell him not to be so bloody stupid.

SirVixofVixHall · 21/08/2023 14:59

He really needs to be seen. He also needs to carry Epipens from now on.

Andanotherone01 · 21/08/2023 14:59

Christ men! He needs an antihistamine

Wokeuptired · 21/08/2023 15:01

His heart rate according to his watch is just over 100bpm, he is having a cup of tea and I told him if his heart rate doesn't drop I will call 111 ( it's going to be high as he has just done a 25 mile bike ride)

OP posts:
Jojobees · 21/08/2023 15:02

He is being v silly. Does he usually behave like this? I only say that as my son can become irrational when he’s in early stages of anaphylaxis.

Fizzadora · 21/08/2023 15:03

Leave him to it. Stupid twat. Hope you've got repatriation on your travel insurance.

cestlavielife · 21/08/2023 15:04

Have you got good travel and life insurance?
Get him to urgent care before he cannot bresthe any more
Or
Go to beach and pass out there his choice i guess

That's interesting.

Taking an antihistamine seems an absolute no-brainer.

AnSolas · 21/08/2023 15:05

Err... explain to him the pipe needed to transfer O2 is between his chest and swollen mouth and that you have not had time to organise a large enough life insurance policy for him.. And that you would be grateful if he could at least not die before you got some in place as you want to be a rich widow?

Seriously though
Are you within the UK (or your home country) or are you depending on holiday insurance to get him home if he gets seriously unwell.
He needs to go to a&e
plus he needs to be assessed to see how serious his reaction is. Next time he could end up in real trouble very quickly

cruffinsmuffin · 21/08/2023 15:05

Are you on holiday in the UK? Any sort of sensation in the mouth / throat is a red flag for an anaphylactic reaction.

When I get an allergic reaction, the first thing I feel is a tingling feeling in my mouth / lips before they start to swell and close up. I also feel quite weird and strange in myself which could be what he's feeling!

I think you just need to take full control of the situation, give him an antihistamine or go straight to the nearest emergency medicine provider.

Repatriation? The OP mentions calling 111, so I assume they're in the UK.

Andanotherone01 · 21/08/2023 15:11

If you're in Devon or Cornwall you might like to remind him that there is only one major hospital for the two counties.

IcakethereforeIam · 21/08/2023 15:12

OP if he survives this episode 😳 he needs to speak to his Doctor. The next time he gets stung could be much worse. He needs to be prepared for it if it happens.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 21/08/2023 15:14

I'm sorry, but he's an irresponsible idiot.
You can call 111 on behalf of someone else. Please just do it now, don't wait until he can hardly breathe.
