Husband has been stung by a wasp

He was stung in the chest while on a bike ride, his mouth has swollen and said he feels like he has just been to the dentist.
I told him it's not right, his arguement is that it happened an hour ago, he won't even take an antihistamine but I think we at least need to call 111
Aibu?

@Wokeuptired
He's not called Frank Spencer by any chance? 😅

He may as well be, luckily he looks more like Jason Statham

OP please report the jetski incident to the local police

Dunnoburt · 21/08/2023 21:58

From a lot of experience.....he will be fine......any anaphylaxic shock would have been virtually instant....he's only punishing himself by being a stalwart and not taking an antihistamine......

Violinist64 · 21/08/2023 21:58

He seems to be living in his own personal sitcom. I hope you enjoy your much needed glass of wine.🍷

Violinist64 · 21/08/2023 22:06

The character that comes to my mind is Basil Fawlty.

GoingToBeLessRubbishAtLife · 21/08/2023 22:15

Blimey you’re very laid back. I’d be deeply unimpressed about a grown man taking over a family holiday like this. It’s all a bit ‘me me me look I’m so brave and Tarzan-like’ with no thought whatsoever to the fact he’s caused you a huge amount of anxiety.

AlfietheSchnauzer · 21/08/2023 22:24

My uncle died from a wasp sting and that began just like this. Get him to A&E/foreign alternative to A&E now!

Mindovermatter247 · 21/08/2023 23:01

DS got stung in the chest whilst on a rollercoaster at Thorpe park… he’s 15 and the first time it’s ever happened. We weren’t sure if he’d be allergic as DP is and was sitting right next to DS, so could have easily been. DS luckily just got an angry red mark, a bit of itching and then a few spots around the area. DP kept an eye on him as they were away for the night. He was almost unbothered.

Mariposista · 21/08/2023 23:05

Oh OP I am so glad your daft husband is fine in the end but honestly your post and updates have made me laugh. He sounds exactly like mine! Literally ants in his pants and won’t take advice from anyone. His mother despairs of him, and so do I.

Crapsummer2023 · 21/08/2023 23:25

Nanny0gg · 21/08/2023 18:14

He sounds like a liability!

This. And I couldn’t be dealing with it. A BIL died after trying to ‘shake something off’. It’s too stressful to live with these types. Not even taking an antihistamine? Why, wanted to play the super healthy MAMIL?

Anaphylaxis is no joke. I have allergies and those signs are your body warning you that shit is about to go down and it needs you to react. He has very poor judgment. His body is primed to REALLY react to the next sting so he needs to at least keep antihistamine on him.

MumblesParty · 21/08/2023 23:27

I would suggest he makes an appointment to see or speak to his GP as he may need an epipen, in case the next sting is much worse.

saraclara · 21/08/2023 23:30

Yes, I'm glad he's going to go to the doctor. Because that's exactly what my GP said to me. Apparently there's usually one unusual reaction (but which dies down) that's the precursor to the big one next time. Which is why he sent me home with Epipens and orders to carry them with me at all times during wasp season. But they have a space in my bag that they occupy all year round.

KnickerlessParsons · 21/08/2023 23:39

Put vinegar on the sting. It really helps

WouldYouLikeYourMuffinButtered · 21/08/2023 23:45

Hopefully he'll refrain from hitting pervs whilst walking the dog.

PyongyangKipperbang · 22/08/2023 00:35

Definitely report the little arseholes on the jetski. He could have died. Being a strong swimmer is no good if you have had a blow to the head.

As for being stung in the mouth, swelling at the spot of the sting and it hurting for a while is normal. The pain can feel more instense due to nerve endings (iirc) As long as his airway wasnt obstructed and he wasnt showing any other symtoms of an allergy its annoying but not life threatening. I only know this because when the kids were little one of them had a similar incident and I TOTALLY over reacted and got told the facts by a very kind, but obviously very tired, A&E doctor. FYI.....they got stung on the lip and the lip, not surprisingly, was swollen and red!

LucyGru · 22/08/2023 01:11

I saw someone mention this upthread, but I wanted to add that when my DH had an anaphylactic reaction a few years back he became quite irrational - grumpy and stubborn and insisted on going to have a shower and crossly telling me not to ring the ambulance. Refused to come downstairs. I assume it was all part of the reaction? Anyway I ignored him completely and phoned the emergency line, and made him glug the kids antihistamene syrup. Paramedics said that kept his airways open just enough until they got there. He spent 3 days in hospital.

BitOutOfPractice · 22/08/2023 02:30

Sounds like a fun holiday as you all traipse round after dh while he does stay he likes, when he likes.

I am allergic to wasp stings and carry Epipens, I have experience of this.

I'm allergic, too, but they won't give me an Epipen, as I was last stung aged 7. My elbow swelled up so much that I couldn't bend my arm for days (1977). The doctor told my mother that if I was stung at chest height or above, straight to A&E, as my throat could swell up and suffocate me.

I burst into tears and he snapped, "Don't be stupid! You're not going to die now!"

I have a lifelong terror of the little bastards. I get up and move away, if they start buzzing round me, which often causes amusement in company, and from onlookers. I don't flap and shriek, but it's obvious I'm not happy with the situation.

Anyway, I'm glad that MrWokeuptired hasn't deteriorated.

TenderDandelions · 22/08/2023 10:15

IcakethereforeIam · 21/08/2023 17:58

@TenderDandelions if it's an infection, you should probably get antibiotics. Does that entail a doctor visit or can you get them from pharmacists now?

Went to the pharmacist, who seemed quite frankly bored of all the insect bite queries (the person in front of me had one too!)

Took a cursory look at it and handed me some cream (£4.50 for 20g!). It is a bit weepy, so I'll have to keep an eye on it. If it's infected I'll have to face the chaotic telephone queues at the doctors for an appointment.

cestlavielife · 22/08/2023 10:29

Dont you mean your dh will ?
He is an adult he can e consult send in pics

cestlavielife · 22/08/2023 10:31

Ah sorry tenderyou not op
But use e consult send in a pic

Stoptheworldpls · 22/08/2023 10:41

Yes, OP. It's time for your husband to be a man. Not a major risk to the security of your whole life playing games like that.

stacyvaron · 22/08/2023 18:36

Does he have a nice life insurance policy?

Bugbabe1970 · 22/08/2023 18:56

He's not a child
You can't make him go to A&E

Bugbabe1970 · 22/08/2023 18:56

DorasAuntie · 21/08/2023 15:44

If he is still okay now, nothing is likely to happen this time.
I'm allergic to wasp stings. I carry an Epipen.

If he was going to die, it would happen in under 10 minutes- anaphylatic shock. It's that quick.

BUT he needs to report this to his GP when home and get equipped with an Epipen.

This!
