Husband has been stung by a wasp

He was stung in the chest while on a bike ride, his mouth has swollen and said he feels like he has just been to the dentist.
I told him it's not right, his arguement is that it happened an hour ago, he won't even take an antihistamine but I think we at least need to call 111
Aibu?

@Wokeuptired I have reactions like this. For that reason I carry anti histamines in my purse, backpack in the summer. Just a tablet, sorts it out. Not worth taking the risk.

A swollen mouth tends to suggest a swollen windpipe. I'm glad your husband feels better now, but these things only tend to get worse as you get older and with each occasion you get stung. My father had an allergy to stings and, by the time he had the third one, he suffered major breathing difficulties and it was very scary.

So he really should take antihistamines around with him and be prepared to take them.

WorriedMillie · 21/08/2023 19:03

He’s an idiot (sorry)
my friend is anaphylactic to wasp stings and a few other things. Her reactions got increasingly worse and this was one “stage” in her presentation, before progressing to full blown anaphylaxis, which has landed her in ITU, several times

SirVixofVixHall · 21/08/2023 14:59

He really needs to be seen. He also needs to carry Epipens from now on.

This not an appropriate bit of advice at all

AllOfThemWitches · 21/08/2023 19:12

I'm right to be terrified of wasps then...

Kilofoxtrot99 · 21/08/2023 19:16

Retired A&E nurse. Anaphylaxis can occur up to 24 hours after the trigger. Get seen or risk your life for the sake of taking some antihistamines ffs

CrazyArmadilloLady · 21/08/2023 19:22

So many people on here flapping - when the manchild himself doesn’t give a shiny shit… Confused

BadBadDecisions · 21/08/2023 19:28

I'm just hanging around to find out about the other incident on the beach 😆

JudgeAnderson · 21/08/2023 19:34

Me too, I really want to know what happened now.

ChrisPPancake · 21/08/2023 20:05

Wokeuptired · 21/08/2023 17:43

Eventually found him, his mouth now feels fine but I will talk to him a bit later as he has an unrelated incident at the beach that we are now dealing with.
Bloody men!

Blimey. Is he always this much of a liability?!

anyolddinosaur · 21/08/2023 20:08

allergic reactions can get worse after exercise. He should have taken the antihistamine and as wasp reactions are difficult to avoid he needs to ask his gp about an epipen.

Make sure he has life insurance and this is covered as a prior condition.

LuckyPeonies · 21/08/2023 20:37

He needs allergy testing. My husband has to carry an epi pen because of vespid venom allergy. He was stung on several different occasions (over a decade), and each time his reaction was worse. Don’t let him fob this off, it can be very dangerous.

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 21/08/2023 20:38

Make sure he has life insurance and this is covered as a prior condition.

I second this.

Mottledhellibore · 21/08/2023 20:47

Ice pack and antihistimine

I second this.

That’s decided when life assurance is taken out, you have a prior condition at that time or not.

Wokeuptired · 21/08/2023 21:14

for those saying he is a liability I totally agree with you.
He is exercise mad as he changed his lifestyle many years ago after he had cancer, he is now almost 50 and due to his hobbies he is a fucking nightmare.
He just didn't go to the beach he took his kayak , I followed him down to keep an eye on him but by the time I got there I couldn't see him, then our sons came down and we started to get worried after an hour and discussed calling the coastguard, next thing we see him walking along the beach, turns out 2 teen-agers about 13-15 were on a jet ski and went near him laughed went out and came back heading straight for him and got hit his kayak sending him into the water, he managed to swim to shore with the kayak but then had to abandon it as he couldn't use it to get back to our beach. We had to come back and drive round to collect it. The sting site is no longer red and her days he now feels fine but has agreed to contact the doctor on Tuesday.
As for the jet ski incident he may have a bit of a bruise on his hip but nothing major.
I'm now having a glass/bottle of wine.

Wasps seem to sting me regularly for fun ☹️

Husband has been stung by a wasp
IcakethereforeIam · 21/08/2023 21:19

Thank you for the update, enjoy your wine and the rest of your holiday. Little bastards on the jetski, they could have killed him. Tell him to stay well clear of anything that buzzes, I can see a pattern emerging 😊

Wokeuptired · 21/08/2023 21:24

IcakethereforeIam that made me laugh, but so right about the jetskis.
I have asked him why he won't take medical advice from me but he is taking me across the world in a few weeks as he is worried about my health, I think that point hit a perve and he is now out walking the dog!!!!!!!!! Honestly he never sits still.

OP posts:
IcakethereforeIam · 21/08/2023 21:32

'perve'Grin He sounds exhausting. No wonder you needed a holiday....and wine!

Wokeuptired · 21/08/2023 21:34

Nerve I meant nerve, I hope no perves were got by the point in question 🤣

Lord Jesus OP am late for the thread but open the second bottle, I've been sober for over half a decade but his excursions today have made me want to drink!

Yes it is.
Mouth swelling is taken v seriously with a reaction, and his next reaction could be more extreme.
I am allergic to wasp stings and carry Epipens, I have experience of this.

Poivresel · 21/08/2023 21:51

@Wokeuptired
He's not called Frank Spencer by any chance? 😅
