dp and i are due our baby girl at the end of sep and he wants his late mum's name to be her middle name. the name we both agreed on just does not go with it at all and it makes me hate the name and so he said we should just pick the second name we liked then but i don't like it as much and honestly his late mum's name is really quite bad (no offence to her at all) but i want to love our daughter's name... i think he doesn't even consider it not being there as she has passed and has always been what he has known middle names to be. he says if we have another girl she can have my mum's name in the middle, which i wouldn't want either. aibu to say no?

I like the option of Wilhelmina as a first name shortened to Willow. I have to be honest though I am not keen on names like Willow and Harper for girls. Must be my age. But these fad names eventually become comical (think Karen, Kevin, Darren, Tracy in the sixties and seventies).

Exactly! I have a name that instantly lets you know how old I am (no, it's not Karen but I did go to school with a few).

My name also tells you what class I was born into. So do names like Willow I'm afraid. Willow Mina is even more of a marker.

People ARE judgey so if you've gone for a "popular" name then this will become synonymous with the era as they age.

@thunderthunder3

Would say big no-no to Willow Billie! Especially if your surname is Williamson/Williams, can you imagine?!

If you're the higher earner / have more assets, then given his attitude, i definitely wouldn't be marrying him & id also be giving my daughter my surname.

He's showing you who he is Op, so believe him & don't make yourself vulnerable in any way.

This exactly.

It doesn't have to be a debate, you have the final say legally and he should be much more respectful and less of a twat. I still think he is trying to wear you down by suggesting really awful combinations so you agree to a less awful one (the one he wanted all along!). Willow Billie Whilomina will be his next suggestion!

I hope it's ok to resurrect this thread...

@thunderthunder3 how are you getting on with your new arrival? Has DH been supportive?

And who won the name argument in the end?
