To hate those new front doors with the big bar?

Slowly lots of neighbours seem to be replacing their perfectly nice front door with grey ones with a big bar as a handle and a letter box at floor level.

I don’t know why but they make me irrationally annoyed!

They’re horrible, they look like public toilet entrance doors.

We live in a new build, the houses on our estate are Edwardian style and a few neighbours have had these doors fitted and they look awful.

Cheap Edwardian pastiche isn’t great either.

They do seem to suggest care home to me but tbh I'm stuck with white1980s uPVC which is probably uglier!

We have one ! Oh dear.

But it's a modern house and goes with the style, it's also aluminium not Upvc and was part of making the house very energy efficient. The letter box is separate as well.

I wanted something simple and don't like the crescent moon or other tacky frosted glass designs. A traditional door would have looked odd. I would have loved a bespoke carved wood one but didn't have the budget.

I agree they don't go on older houses, especially, Victorian and edwardian. Context is everything.

I've avoided grey interiors though, I think grey walls look drab.

We have a big bush in our front garden, so if the neighbours are offended they don't have to look at the front door.

The letter box is separate as well.

All fine then!
