To hate those new front doors with the big bar?

Slowly lots of neighbours seem to be replacing their perfectly nice front door with grey ones with a big bar as a handle and a letter box at floor level.

I don’t know why but they make me irrationally annoyed!

Don’t worry, OP, it’s just a fashion - like everything grey…. Your perfectly nice front door will soon be back in fashion again!

TenOhSeven · 14/08/2023 12:27

I also hate those doors, YANBU. I think front doors should be a cheery colour!

Donewithrenovating · 14/08/2023 12:28

I can't think what you mean, do you have a pic?

shams05 · 14/08/2023 12:29

It's the same around our way too. Not necessarily grey but the long bar like handle which looks jail like. Plus the letter box right at floor level must be really frustrating for posties.

MillWood85 · 14/08/2023 12:30

The fridge/freezer door look.

Sheeples.

Badbudgeter · 14/08/2023 12:30

I always feel sorry for the posties. Job not hard enough? Kneel whilst you deliver my mail.

TheFlis12345 · 14/08/2023 12:30

Eurgh yes, DH and I both think they look terrible and are often really not in keeping with the style of the property.

Yes, I’m sure you have a front door which looks like absolutely no other front door that has ever existed

Otherwise you, too, would be a “sheeple”

I hate them. They look like crappy office doors.

Also hate the letter box right at the bottom of the door trend - either put it in the middle or install a separate box for post.

Circlesandtriangles · 14/08/2023 12:33

Leave my door alone 😁I've had it 8 years and love it. Replaced a draughty wooden door. No letter box in mine, we have a separate post box mounted on the wall nearby at a decent height.

I don’t mind other decor trends and fashions, whatever floats peoples boats.

Just something about these doors makes me irrationally angry 😅

I live in an area of edwardian terraced houses and a few have them and they look bloody awful. However i think they look nice on the modern school building nearby.

Moonshine5 · 14/08/2023 12:36

Agree OP they resemble Council and general office buildings.
It's like when people decked their entire properties in grey 😂

Bet you're cool and edgy 🤣

MadisonAvenue · 14/08/2023 12:41

They’re horrible, they look like public toilet entrance doors.

We live in a new build, the houses on our estate are Edwardian style and a few neighbours have had these doors fitted and they look awful.

TeleTropes · 14/08/2023 12:43

I like them, but also a fan of a coloured front door. Ours is white Upvc painted grey to match the porch windows at the moment and I cannot wait to upgrade to one like this, but in yellow or green or navy.

ShitsCreep · 14/08/2023 12:44

someone has one like that in bright blue near me. Makes their house look like a leisure centre

Violetparis · 14/08/2023 12:47

I really dislike huge door numbers imprinted in glass above new doors too, quite a few of these on big houses near me.

lastminutewednesday · 14/08/2023 12:54

This is a timely thread for me as I was sitting in traffic earlier looking at three such doors in the houses I was next to and thinking how horrible they are and how they will date really quickly. They just seem
A bit try hard to me. We are in the market for a new front door and DH tried to moot one of these as that's what he had on his old house. He got some serious side eye from me Grin

tattygrl · 14/08/2023 12:56

They really, really look like doors in a new-build purpose built office block.

And yet everyone with a grey rendered house, black windows, resin driveway and fridge front door thinks they're unique, with more modern taste

Caprisunny · 14/08/2023 12:59

I quite like them. Though I replaced my front door 2 years ago and didn’t go for one and am not sure why.

At some point I must have not liked them 😂

MN is nuts

How on earth do you think that people with grey rendered houses think that they’re “unique”?!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 14/08/2023 13:01

I quite like the way that something meant to provide greater accessibility to people of all heights and mobility (as it's a lot easier to use when using a wheelchair, being short, being very tall and when wrangling a pair of crutches than reaching for a tiny thing around a keyhole or sticking your hand in a letterbox) has been sold as a stylish design choice. Same with wet rooms and open plan inside.

It's not surprising that some people absolutely hate it.
