And the gap. Is massive

OP posts:

AND, you should be glad of your (adult) kid hanging about with someone who has the wisdom that comes with age. It's not to be underestimated imo. Likely no insta or any of that bllx.

I went to the funeral of a friend yesterday who was 25 years older than me. Never once occurred to me that it was odd for us to enjoy each other’s company - she was fabulous.

OhYetAnotherBrickInTheWall · 11/08/2023 16:26

I had LOADS of mates in their mid to late 20’s when I was late teens / early 20’s. Most of my mates were older than me. Still friends with a good few of them now, 25 or so years later.

PinkBuffalo · 11/08/2023 16:26

I am late 30s and friends with peoples of pretty much all ages. Why is it weird?

Sorry for your loss x

I'm starting to think the lunatics have taken over the asylum.
In other words OP you are the odd one.

CarrieO · 11/08/2023 16:27

When I was 20 I met my then 27 year old DH!

Also met one of my closest friends when I was 25. She was 42 at the time. We’re still great friends now 15 years later. Age is irrelevant in friendship, in my opinion.

WelshMumof1 · 11/08/2023 16:27

I'm 40 and my best friend is 30. I don't understand why it's weird. If you have interesting hobbies you will make a wide range of friends. Coworkers can easily become friends, etc.

Kernsworld · 11/08/2023 16:27

What are you on about? One of the strangest opinions I’ve seen on here.

Moneynewpence · 11/08/2023 16:27

No. Silly overwrought attitude. Next you'll be saying have to be the exact same age or it's dodgy. They're not in a Year Group all their lives...

CopperSeahorses · 11/08/2023 16:27

I am 60, my best friend is in her 40s. There is nothing weird about a friendship between a 20yr old and a 27yr old (unless there is something you're not telling us)

DyslexicPoster · 11/08/2023 16:28

I disagree. My 19 year went abroad to see his gaming mate who was late 20s. Even if they hooked up ( he said not), they are both adults who enjoy each others company. My bil married someone 16 years older then him. His mum was the same age as his new wife. That would feel odd if he was say under 24 but he was an experienced worldly man so it didn't feel odd to me.

thelengthspeoplegoto · 11/08/2023 16:29

I have friends 20 years my junior and 20 years my senior. We are all adults.

Moneynewpence · 11/08/2023 16:29

It's only a more extreme version of the posters screaming "groomer!" whenever there is more than a handful of years gap.

TregunaMekoides · 11/08/2023 16:29

I wish people like the OP would learn to focus less on age gaps in years and more on the maturity gap. A gap between a 20 year old and a 27 year old is nothing really.
The gap between a 12 year old and a 19 year old is massive.

ManateeFair · 11/08/2023 16:32

It's not odd in the slightest and the gap isn't massive. What planet do you live on where adults can't be friends with anyone who isn't the same age as them?

Dibbydoos · 11/08/2023 16:33

I'm friends with people years older and years younger than me always have been, all my adult life... I also have friends my own age too...

LolaSmiles · 11/08/2023 16:34

Is this a TAAT based on the one earlier about 25 year olds being friends with 16-18 year olds that they meet at a youth group or something?

There was one a few months ago too with a 25 year old picking up 16 year olds from college and having sleepovers with them.

If a 20 and 27 year old have things in common, why wouldn't they be friends?

Chickenkeev · 11/08/2023 16:36

It's all a moot point anyway, two consenting adults etc. Let them crack on and keep your beak out.

Chatillon · 11/08/2023 16:37

Yes it is odd.
25 minus 20 = 7

If it were 28 minus 20 = 8 then that would be even.

Tiredalwaystired · 11/08/2023 16:37

No

WotNoUserName · 11/08/2023 16:38

Yes, it's very odd. People should only ever be friends with people in the same school year as them. They shouldn't even talk to people outside of this specific age range. Ever.

Guiltyfeethavegotnorhythm0 · 11/08/2023 16:38

You are op ,you can't live your life only socialising with people the same age group , we are not children .

Chickychoccyegg · 11/08/2023 16:38

Most people as they get older have friends from different areas of life school/college/uni , work , hobby groups, completely normal for there to be different ages.
I think it's ridiculous that you think that's a massive age gap to be honest.

fishonabicycle · 11/08/2023 16:38

I've always had friends with an age range - can't believe you think this is odd.
