Big bars of chocolate

JoRobyn · 10/08/2023 11:08

I remember when I was a child, big bars of chocolate were a birthday or Christmas treat. Now they're so easy and cheap to come by, I can easily eat one in one go. Anyone else, or am I a disgusting pig?! (Just had dairy milk with Dime.....would recommend!)

One square a day is enough!

FFS.

My husband keeps it in the freezer but he's a lunatic

In the freezer?! You are the lucky recipient of my very first LTB! Chocolate in the freezer indeed...

MassiveWordSalad · 10/08/2023 13:34

@JauntyJinty you only make it last two weeks? I'm not a binge eater like you, a square lasts me years. One sniff a day, it never touches my lips. You need help 🤣

Beautiful3 · 10/08/2023 13:35

The family sharing bar, was always for special occasions growing up. We'd all have a couple of bars each. Think the size has shrunk, as I don't think it would now stretch beyond 3 people? I only buy one when my daughter's on her period. I never buy it for myself because I'm always calorie counting now I'm older.

DoorstoManual · 10/08/2023 13:35

I am another one who has one square of dark chocolate every morning with a coffee.

I don’t see that it is that unusual.

LaPerduta · 10/08/2023 13:36

JauntyJinty · 10/08/2023 11:45

Oh I couldn't possibly mange an entire square - I use a cheese grater so I can split one over a fortnight

😂😂😂

I have neither the self restraint to eat only one square of chocolate at a sitting, nor to resist the temptation to comment on the ridiculousness of such competitive undereating comments.

Beautiful3 · 10/08/2023 13:36

If you're watching your figure like me, putting chocolate in the freezer is good. A square lasts ages in the mouth!

Just the one sharing bar you say?

'Sharing'.

Pfft.

FedUpFanAnn · 10/08/2023 13:40

Here in defiant solidarity with @GalileoHumpkins I'll have maybe two squares every couple of days when I go in the cupboard. That's absolutely fine for me. I quite enjoy making it last. And no, I'm not a lettuce-weigher. I'll happily eat a big sunday roast for dinner then another one for tea, and still be starving for something else later. I just don't have big chocolate cravings. I don't think Galileo is winding anyone up.

DoorstoManual · 10/08/2023 13:54

@FedUpFanAnn

Well put.

I am moderate in my consumption of chocolate, now wine and cheese and JS olive ciabatta is a different story. 😂

JeanMarie · 10/08/2023 13:58

I was told by my doc to go on a low fat/low dairy diet for my health....highish cholesterol and gallstones. That was 18 months ago and was easy to stick to as a 12 day stay in hospital with gallbladder infection put the fear of God in me.
So, no chocolate sadly...I got used to it UNTIL shopping in The Range last week I spied a bag of dinky sized , individually wrapped Turkish Delights. I bought them thinking one or two a week wouldn't harm me. Big mistake...I scarfed the lot....they were "hidden" in my bedroom. I even got up during the night to polish them off.

tt9 · 10/08/2023 14:00

I mean... I eat full size snickers bars some times and then get a craving for another one
.. because they have become smaller...

and I can easily eat a slab of nice dark chocolate in a sitting... but can't eat much of the overly sweet stuff.

Nuca · 10/08/2023 14:00

@FedUpFanAnn @GalileoHumpkins already came back and confirmed they weren't being serious

LjSebs · 10/08/2023 14:12

I literally have just eaten a whole bar of mint aero in about 30 seconds. It was glorious

Are you claiming a snickers isn't overly sweet? Grin

I'm low-carbing but I have a week off planned in a few weeks and have plans to demolish a big bar of Whole Nut someone gave me. It's safely hidden away until then.

Anyone else, or am I a disgusting pig?!

I know it's lighthearted but it makes me wince when people talk about themselves like this, because you're basically saying other people who eat this are also disgusting pigs.

Definitely light hearted, and absolutely don't think that of anyone, more that I've found my people 😉

Ds keeps his in the freezer too! He once asked dh to cut it as it wouldn’t break and dh broke the knife trying too, the metal part flew off and nearly killed my other son!!

And thoroughly well deserved!

LondonQueen · 10/08/2023 15:10

It's very easy to eat one in one go, terrible for you, but dangerously easy. However they have shrank significantly over the last couple of years.

Cowlover89 · 10/08/2023 15:10

I eat chocolate every day

tt9 · 10/08/2023 15:12

@GoodChat the sweetness of snickers is balanced by the salty peanut butter and nuts so very moreish. similarly I can eat quite a lot of g&b milk choc with sea salt.

Anyone remember the 1kg Dairy Milk bars? Great stocking filler they were.
