Big bars of chocolate

JoRobyn · 10/08/2023 11:08

I remember when I was a child, big bars of chocolate were a birthday or Christmas treat. Now they're so easy and cheap to come by, I can easily eat one in one go. Anyone else, or am I a disgusting pig?! (Just had dairy milk with Dime.....would recommend!)

easy and cheap?? The share size bars are £1.25 now. I begrudge it.

Oh here we go 😂😂😂

Awhole square? But I looked at a drawing of a fraction of a chocolate bar last week.

JauntyJinty · 10/08/2023 11:45

Oh I couldn't possibly mange an entire square - I use a cheese grater so I can split one over a fortnight

😂😂😂

USaYwHatNow · 10/08/2023 13:03

Maybe not a bar, but a share bag of Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons is my poison 😂😂

One square a day is enough!

Give over 😂😂😂

Nuca · 10/08/2023 13:04

@weirdoboelady I don't know if I have just misunderstood, but have you put a trigger warning for chocolate?

Nemesias · 10/08/2023 13:04

GalileoHumpkins · 10/08/2023 11:26

One square a day is enough!

They mostly come in rectangles though unless it’s Ritter

TonTonMacoute · 10/08/2023 13:04

No, I really couldn't scarf eat a whole big bar in one go.

I can't be the only one who just breaks off one line, eats it with a cup of coffee, and that's enough!?

GigiAnnna · 10/08/2023 13:05

They have shrunk and the squares have got flatter, it's easy done.

Liv999 · 10/08/2023 13:05

Yep I can eat a full one in one go, and not feel one ounce of guilt about it either 😋

IveHadItUpToHere · 10/08/2023 13:05

I just bought a selection of them because we were on holiday. The teen managed to eat one in a day.
I can't do that any more. Since peri-menopause, I need to be more careful about what I eat.

TakenRoot · 10/08/2023 13:07

You are a disgusting pig.

But you are in good company.

I can take or leave chocolate (indeed I bought some for cake making purposes about a year ago and there's still half a bar left), but back in the 1960s we had to share a bar between the 5 of us. About a square and a half each.
Chocolate now is so much more readily available and people seem quite happy to buy it.

Yep. I felt I was doing a wicked thing by introducing the concept of addictive Daim bars 😈

Curseofthenation · 10/08/2023 13:16

I could only eat a whole sharing bar myself while pregnant, and even then, only here and there. I'd say as a standard that I can generally eat half of one with my DH.

stayathomer · 10/08/2023 13:16

Isn’t it so weird though that when people are offering a square of something it tastes so much better than you having a whole one? (Share or smaller) Ever since our shop put the giant ones at 99c (cheaper than other bars) to get rid of them it puts me off and now I’ll go for a much smaller bar

SecretVictoria · 10/08/2023 11:30

You’ll get loads of people on here saying they only sniff the wrapper every six months and that does them as they fill up on 3 tomato slices. However, you are correct, I can easily do one in a single sitting.

I properly LOL'd at this! And to my eternal shame I could happily gorge on a family sized full bar. 😁

TakenRoot · 10/08/2023 13:19

It’s the Big Cost of Living Heist.

I buy a big bar because it is so much cheaper per ‘portion’, but then eat the whole lot, rinse and repeat, saving money all the way, and before I know it I have spent a weeks wages on giant chocolate bars. But in my defence, they were excellent value.

Same with multi packs of crisps. Multi packs of magnums. And Cornettos.

Twin packs of Little Gem lettuces tho? What a swiz!

Just because you can doesn't mean you should!

But I reckon the big bars are not comparatively cheaper than when we were kids, just that our parents wouldn't let us get them. Or maybe that was just mine?!

Our village shop charges something like 85p for a Crunchie (dc's fave), but there's a 4 pack for like a quid 20 (admittedly slightly smaller bars). So I buy that. Dc good at regulating though so doesn't eat them all at once!

AdoraBell · 10/08/2023 13:20

They are banned in my home other than at Christmas. I would scoff the lot otherwise 🤦‍♀️

PalomaPalomaPaloma · 10/08/2023 13:23

What's your definition of "big"?

Upwiththelark76 · 10/08/2023 13:26

Sign of the times . Years ago when we were kids chocolate was a treat . And I mean a treat ! i used to look forward to Sunday when we would get an ‘animal bar’ remember those tiny little bars. Or a cadburys wildlife bar . Now
lime you say a huge bar is nothing to a kid or an adult

diddl · 10/08/2023 13:30

I remember as a kid having one bar of choc between the 4 of us as a treat at the weekend.

I think we often had rum & raisin!
Old Jamaica?

Or a Fry'sTurkish delight ( a whole one each!)

I think it's easy to eat a row & then another until it's all gone!

Especially Marabou!

Here you can get Schogetten which is individual pieces that you don't even have to break off!
