Has lack of manners stopped you giving things away free?

Was going to tip some things I did not need anymore but thought the nice thing to do would be to advertise if someone wanted for free. We are also encouraged to reduce waste etc.

Somebody contacted and said they were interested. I Gave them the address etc and discussed time as you do. Seemed keen to come.

No show, no apology. Im sure not the only person to experience this. I could not be so rude though. If I could not make it I would message.

I wont bother again. Why are people so rude?
They just spoil it.
Has it stopped you giving things away free?😪

Facebook marketplace is a bizarre place, where manners, literacy and numeracy, and normal social interactions go to die.

Exactly!

Sorry, I don't know why the spacing in my post is so weird!

ArsMamatoria · 12/08/2023 09:18

No, because I tend to give my stuff to people who reply politely to the ad. Everyone has been lovely so far.

I posted a pram for free and the claminent hadn't even collected it before she posted it for sale on another group.
She even used the same photo , featuring my hallway.
Needless to say, I contacted the next in line.

I'd have posted on the comments alternatively contact me as I'm giving away an identical pram

I’ve had a pile of tiles from my kitchen floor (probably about £500 new) waiting for someone to pick them up for about 5 weeks now. Several people have said they would come, I’ve asked ‘what time?’ Then no further message. The only one who has shown rejected them because one was scratched. They’re free, you CF.

People are just getting ruder.

I don’t answer those who’s first message is “ I want this” or “mine”. They are always time wasters. Probably rude of me but I don’t much care.

Not free but I had someone complain the other day that he could get something I was selling cheaper on ebay. I suggested politely that he bought it on ebay! It sold the next day at the price I wanted for it.

This! Really annoys me!

When I moved from a house to a flat I gave away loads of stuff and it was a really irritating a depressing process. Either people didn’t turn up or turned up at the wrong time or without a car when I had made it clear was too heavy to carry. And some people wanted everything - were clearly car-booting things.

Point taken

Not everyone can leave things outside though
Not everyone has a porch or garden etc.

I assume everyone has a front door. I did the same when we lived in a block of flats. The charity gives you 2 hour window and you just pop everything out to the side of the entrance to the building.

Following on from my past post, we are clearing out our loft. I put about ten half decent photo frames out in a box on my driveway with a sign saying 'help yourself' and also put a post on local fb page to let people know.

I had two people asking for delivery (really really far out of my way as well!)

One person sent me a list of requirements.

One messaged asking if I had any multi aperture frames that would fit 8 6x4 photos.

One person sent asking me to list all of the types of frame and measurements so she could check her photos fit.

One messaged asking if i had anything in oak as white wouldn't go with her colour scheme.

One messaged asking if I could hold them for two weeks as they were in holiday in America.

If you don't live in the area, why are you on the page? The idea is that you can just walk to my driveway, have a look through and take what you need not put in some bloody bespoke orders regarding colour and size Hmm

Yes some people are rude, even when selling stuff on my local fb groups. I give most stuff to charity shops now unless It can sell for at least £5. Just not worth the aggro for less.
