Judging someone for taking their dog for a walk in their pyjamas...

Would you judge this?

I wouldn’t even notice stuff like that, what people are wearing. Only people who at their core are desperate to be seen as belonging to a shallow vacuous club of affluent buffoons would judge someone walking her dog wearing pjs (the woman not the dog 😄) Nobody in real life is dressed to the nines for every possible activity, or even dressed ‘appropriately’. There are much more important things to think about than judging someone on that.

daffodilandtulip · 09/08/2023 15:15

11pm wee to the end of the street fine, going to the park at noon weird.

On my day off I do drive my kids to college in my pjs but I don't leave the car. I do secretly judge those who walk across the playground in pjs.

category12 · 09/08/2023 15:16

Yeah, probably I would if it's during the day.

If it bothers you that people might be judging you, how about changing into trackie bottoms and a t shirt or something instead of jammies, so you're in something comfortable but it's not nightwear.

Gladyys · 09/08/2023 15:18

It just looks daft. So many items of clothing leggings, joggers etc can be worn as pj's or outdoor clothes. No one wants to see people in the street in obvious nightwear.

I agree that it doesn't take long to get dressed, but I'm out every hour with him, he's 7 months. So it would just be irritating to keep changing and I get some people stay in jeans or suits when they're home, but I've just always put back on what I slept in the night before, have since I was a kid and got home from school! I get it's not for everyone, but just explaining

Joggers and a hoodie or leggings are comfortable for lounging in

senua · 09/08/2023 15:22

Nobody is asking for 'to the nines' or 'appropriately'. Just 'dressed' would be sufficient.

Gladyys · 09/08/2023 15:22

'On my day off I do drive my kids to college in my pjs but I don't leave the car'

But why? Getting dressed is a 20 second job. Set an example to your kids on being organised.

SirenSays · 09/08/2023 15:25

No I wouldn't judge on a dog walk, wear whatever you want. I walk mine when it's dark and do my best to look like a big chavvy bloke to stop people hassling me

Cloudflare · 09/08/2023 15:26

Let them judge, I say.

(Some people are just preoccupied with the minutiae).

Wear your pjs proudly and unapologetically. It’ll be a far far more comfortable life.

FoodFann · 09/08/2023 15:27

No I wouldn’t judge the individuals person, no, as I would assume they had a reason to be in PJs. But overall, adults in PJs in the daytime, in public, is not pleasant, and in my opinion, contributes to social degradation of a neighbourhood.

mrsmacmc · 09/08/2023 15:28

Personally only take Ddog out in the garden in my pjs / dressing gown. When going out round the block, pull on clothes - we often see one of Ddog pawfriends out with their dad for last pee and the dad is in his pjs with a fleece thrown on

What irritates me more is people not picking up after their dog!

Ohpleeeease · 09/08/2023 15:29

If they’re obviously nightwear then it probably looks a bit odd. If they’re just clothes that you sleep in that could pass for day wear, then fine. I don’t think I’d want to wear clothes in bed that I’d worn outside but that’s another thing.

Coolasakebab · 09/08/2023 15:31

I’d assume the person was depressed. It’s the absolute bear minimum of pride in your appearance to get dressed in the morning.

It might be for you, but it isn't for me. I'm happy to appear as I am. I never wear makeup, don't dye my hair or put it up or do anything other than let it hang loose (it's shoulder length). And I prioritise being comfortable in clothing and shoes - and don't care what strangers think. I care how I feel. And I like to feel natural and comfortable.

Yeah I would silently judge to be honest. How long would it take to whip them off and put a black pair of leggings or joggers on just before you head out? 30 seconds? I know it shouldn’t matter, but it does. It’s just basic standards. I mean if you can’t be arsed to get dressed of a morning, what else can’t you be arsed to do? My three year old knows we get dressed in the morning and pyjamas are for bedtime. If I’m home with the dog in the day I may dress in cheapo / holey leggings as no one sees me. If I do the school run, or nip out for anything, I dash upstairs, take off tatty leggings and put on smarter jeans, chinos or a dress, brush my hair, bit of bronzer and some lippy, spray of perfume and that whole process takes 60 seconds. When I come back in and deal with dogs, cats and kids then the leggings go back on.

I silently feel sorry for people who feel the need to wear makeup to go outside.
I don't judge them, but when you post about putting on bronzer and lippy, I do think about the way society is that makes this seem necessary.
So I don't judge either nipping to the shop make- up wearers or pyjama dog walkers. Neither are hurting anyone else and I have my own shit to deal with, which no doubt goes noticed by people.

ToWhitToWhoo · 09/08/2023 15:39

For a moment, I thought this was about someone putting their dog in pyjamas to go for a walk! Yes, I would judge that! No, I don't care what an individual chooses to wear; life's too short for me to fuss over that.

Tdcp · 09/08/2023 15:40

I have to admit I thought this thread was about the dog wearing pjs... which I find fantastic btw 😂

I don't tend to judge people in pjs unless they're in certain situations, like pjs and slippers in the supermarket, that bothers me 😅. I'm glad you're taking the dog out tbh

nonmerci99 · 09/08/2023 15:41

Could not care less, unless the pyjamas are actually négligée 😂

Squirrelsnut · 09/08/2023 15:42

I think it looks a bit grim tbh.

category12 · 09/08/2023 15:43

I do think it's a bit gross to wear pyjamas outside if you're intending to go to bed in them later.

And if you change into your pyjamas when you get home, then change into clean pyjamas to get into bed, you might as well change into casual wear when you get home instead, as it's the same amount of changing.

RoyKentFanclub · 09/08/2023 15:44

I completely judge. It’s lazy and I think it’s also attention seeking.

I wouldn’t say anything since it makes no difference to me but I think people who do this are skanky.

Beezknees · 09/08/2023 15:45

Honestly, yes. It's not that much effort to change into a pair of joggers and a t shirt.

backtogrey · 09/08/2023 15:45

Yeah, I judge for pjs out and about. No need for it and it takes seconds to get dressed.

VinEtFromage · 09/08/2023 15:48

SoShallINever · 09/08/2023 14:03

Why does it matter to you? I frequently wear my PJ'S to walk the dog, I wear black ones to avoid your judgement, but I really admire those who wear pepper pug ones to piss you off.

@SoShallINever

but WHY do you wear pj's to walk your dog?

LolaSmiles · 09/08/2023 15:49

Depends on the pyjamas surely? Long legged bottoms with t shirt style top and who would know? white broderie anglaise nightie with ribbons yes it would look a bit weird! Babydoll nightie and frilly pants? Def weird. What do you wear on your feet? Wellies? Trainers? Fluffy mules? I used to rock the wellies and pj look on camping holidays for those late night toilet visits with kids
Agree with this.

Some pyjamas/loungewear don't look much different from athleisure outfits, plain jogger-style bottoms, printed wide leg trousers, oversized t shirts/sweatshirts.

Others would look a bit strange if they're obviously sleepwear. Eg. Pastel character pyjamas, bows, nighties.
