Would you judge this?

OP posts:

I probably would secretly. I say that because there is a parent who always does the school run in her pjs and slippers and I aways think to myself, gosh can’t you get up five mins earlier and throw some clothes on? I wouldn’t say it out loud to anyone but I do chastise myself for being so judgmental

CurlewKate · 09/08/2023 14:16

I really don't understand why anyone minds about people going out in their pyjamas. It's just like a track suit or yoga pants and a t shirt.

Laloca2000 · 09/08/2023 14:17

@ReluctantFishLady 😂excellent observation, I definitely get that too!

SpilltheTea · 09/08/2023 14:18

No, I have a life.

Berlinlover · 09/08/2023 14:20

Yes, I would judge.

Basketballqueen · 09/08/2023 14:21

I judge anyone who dresses dogs in clothes, from pjs to booties even bandanas.

LylaLee · 09/08/2023 14:21

I've been crippled with depression to the point where taking a shower is a big achievement. So I'd see them and wonder if they are struggling.

They may just be lazy. They may just not care. Their ex might have just have cut up all their clothes five minutes earlier.

I have no way of knowing which category they fall under, so I mind my own beeswax.

coreas · 09/08/2023 14:22

I always take my dog out near mine for the toilet (live in a flat) and I only wear pyjamas at home

That not true though because you are also wearing them outside! Just put on some clothes, it's not difficult.

Basketballqueen · 09/08/2023 14:23

But yes, I would judge anyone dressed in nightwear outside in the middle of the day. Unless they were ill

I saw a woman get out of a Range Rover at the petrol station next to me, in pyjamas, slippers (fluffy slides with Aristocats on) and a fluffy belted dressing gown, about midday. This was Morrisons petrol station and I have seen her twice since then in the store, both times in pyjamas during the mid morning and in the daytime, I think she is lazy.

I think I saw this woman too but when there was snow on the ground.

I don't own a pair of pyjamas and I certainly don't 'get' the wearing of PJs anywhere except in bed. Just strange to me.

MasterBeth · 09/08/2023 14:25

Yes, I'd make some kind of judgment about someone I saw outside in what were obviously pyjamas.

However, I don't really know what people class as pyjamas these days. T-shirt and jogging bottoms? Does that count?

And of course it's only snobbery on my part.

I think she means pyjamas are all she wears at home

tattygrl · 09/08/2023 14:26

No.

For one thing, life is too short and my own life is full enough of things to be concerned about to bother worrying about what someone wears while walking their dog.

Secondly, you simply never know what is going on in peoples' lives. Disability, exhaustion, illness, washing machine's broken, lost all their clothes in a fire, bloody hell could be anything. Judging people for superficial things is always a path to misery.

GoodnightJude1 · 09/08/2023 14:26

I couldn’t care less what anyone chose to wear whilst walking their dog.
I’d rather they walked their dog wearing pjs than didn’t bother walking their dog at all…..

BettyOBarley · 09/08/2023 14:27

Couldn't give a monkeys what other people wear..

Pickledpigeon · 09/08/2023 14:27

I don’t think it’s a good look. Unless you’re unwell, I would just assume attention seeking, or bit of a scruff if you were on an actual outing of some sort - park, supermarket etc.
Assuming you were my neighbour op, in your scenario I would probably be less judgemental, if aware you are working shifts etc and just letting dog relieve themselves.
In all cases can’t say it would be more than a passing thought though and wouldn’t comment on it.

BarrelOfOtters · 09/08/2023 14:28

I'm often to be found taking our dog out for a quick walk on the pavement in front of the house in PJs, slippers and /or dressing gown.

Sometimes she just won't pee in the back garden.

It's not a particularly busy road...but it gets traffic.

But if a dog has got to go - she's got to go.

I would judge someone for going to the shops in PJs.

BoohooWoohoo · 09/08/2023 14:28

Sorry but I would judge obvious pjs like the Winnie the Pooh onesie woman I saw a few years back but if your pyjamas are more loungewear then no. Most of the men walking dogs are in joggers and T-shirts round here so why not the women.

queenMab99 · 09/08/2023 14:29

It would be difficult to tell with me, as my pj's aren't much different to my clothes, I only do comfy now. Stylish, neat and smart are no longer relevant in my life. If the dog needed to go out and I hadn't a garden, I probably would wear my pyjamas, as it takes me ages to get dressed. Anyone who didnt like it, would have to lump it.

CurlewKate · 09/08/2023 14:30

What would you judge them on/for?

theyareonlynoodlesmichael · 09/08/2023 14:34

I have taken Ddog out late at night in pajamas but with actual shoes on and a coat. I would get dressed in the morning unless it was ungodly early.

I do judge people I see going to the shops in full on dresisng down and fluffy slippers though.

SaltyGod · 09/08/2023 14:35

Honestly, I would probably do an internal double take. Just as I would if I saw someone at the shops in their nightwear or any other public place.

I’d assume they were either really unwell and therefore unable to get dressed, or I’d think they were too lazy to get dressed. It takes 2 mins to put some clothes on, and shows a respect for yourself.

I’d never say anything

Soubriquet · 09/08/2023 14:36

No not at all.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 09/08/2023 14:36

I picked DS up from school once wearing sort of flare cut black joggers and a hoodie and the teacher asked me not to wear PJs on the school run anymore.
TBF the only difference I suppose were mine were a big thicker and had no patter on but that made me realise how anything can be PJ's if you use it as such.

Moveoverdarlin · 09/08/2023 14:37

Yeah I would silently judge to be honest. How long would it take to whip them off and put a black pair of leggings or joggers on just before you head out? 30 seconds? I know it shouldn’t matter, but it does. It’s just basic standards. I mean if you can’t be arsed to get dressed of a morning, what else can’t you be arsed to do? My three year old knows we get dressed in the morning and pyjamas are for bedtime. If I’m home with the dog in the day I may dress in cheapo / holey leggings as no one sees me. If I do the school run, or nip out for anything, I dash upstairs, take off tatty leggings and put on smarter jeans, chinos or a dress, brush my hair, bit of bronzer and some lippy, spray of perfume and that whole process takes 60 seconds. When I come back in and deal with dogs, cats and kids then the leggings go back on.
