To not shower in the morning?

mysavinggrace123 · 08/08/2023 19:56

If I could, I would have two showers, AM & PM, but tbh I actually can't afford to do this due to water bill.

I simply couldn't get into clean bed sheets of an evening not showered. (Only exception if sheets are due a wash)

But I feel horrible when I haven't showered in the morning.

Do you always shower in the morning?

Some mucky folk here
A shower takes minutes

Oblomov23 · 09/08/2023 20:06

I only shower in the morning. Sometimes I have a bath in the evening if I fancy, having not previously washed. Shocked at all these people showering twice a day, don't understand this idea that you have to shower before getting into bed 'dirty'. Who is dirty? Why do you think you are dirty? Plus showering twice a day isn't good for your skin.

RavingStyle · 09/08/2023 20:13

Yes, the planet is in fire, so what? We can't have MNers feeling a little grubby, can we?

ArcticBells · 09/08/2023 20:15

I bath at both ends of the day. If I had to choose one, it would be the night bath - I simply cannot get into bed feeling dirty

Have you not heard of 'outside germs'?

I don't think some on here will be happy until they have sterilising portals at all entrances to their homes, because you can't be too careful.

MrsMiagi · 09/08/2023 20:22

Shower every morning. Without fail.

Modern people might think this, but bathing once or twice a week only was normal until the 80s or 90s

Im in my 50’s and it’s always been normal to have a daily bath or shower.

My parents generation (born in ww2) only had a bath a couple of times a week at home but I don’t know anyone my age where that was the norm.

SuperiorM · 09/08/2023 20:54

Mumsnet it’s surreal, truly

SuperiorM · 09/08/2023 20:57

HalloumiLuvver · 09/08/2023 19:35

Please don't ever put that week theory to the test. Yuk.

I used to work with a lady who only showered every 3/4 days (she said, and no mention of a strip wash in between) and there was definite odour (funky fanny and armpit BO) by day 3. Eventually HR had a word and she got better and fresher.

I don’t believe this, a week was once the norm so I’m guessing 30 per cent still don’t daily shower

No it wasn’t. I was born in 63, always had a bath every night. Ds was born in 93, so did he.

Wsmi · 09/08/2023 21:17

It makes no sense to shower in the morning and go to bed with the day’s dirt and grime that you’ve accumulated by being out and about.

The planet is not on fire. Unless you are living on the wrong planet. Are you from Mercury? And if you don’t mind being grubby, that’s on you. Others don’t need to live like that.

ReginaRegina · 09/08/2023 21:21

I shower right before bed and ensure I'm not too hot so I don't wake up sweaty. I then have a basin wash before work. However, I'm usually wearing full PPE and covered in dust/soaking wet within the first hour of work so kind of pointless having a shower first.

If I'm going somewhere after work or hitting gym I will often shower before leaving work though.

Yes we had a shower over the bath in 80s which wasn't fantastic then my first house had the same. I'm sure I showered or had a Bath every day

Where do you live that you are getting all this dirt and grime all over you? I can assure you that no dirt or grime transfers itself to my bedding - and as it's white I would notice! People really do go overboard with all this nonsense.

theysaiditgetseasier · 09/08/2023 22:41

Evening shower or bath for me, very rare for me to ho to bed without one.

I only ever shower in the mornings if I'm on a period (not had one for a while as peri menopausal), had sex or maybe I'm very sweaty but it's rare.

Kwasi · 09/08/2023 23:52

I shower in the evenings in the colder months so that I don’t have to blow dry my hair. I shower in the morning in the warmer months.

FYI: I always sleep in full PJs and don’t even switch to the summer duvet until it gets to at least 20 degrees in my bedroom.

OK, I'll try again for those who struggle with figurative speech.

The planet is in a human induced climate crisis. An unfolding catastrophe, visibly gaining momentum each year.
2023 is shaping up to be the hottest on record. Huge wild and bush fires are on the increase, this year seen in Rhodes, Portugal, Spain and Hawaii amongst other places. California and Australia have been recently affected, too.
Last year saw a record high temperature of 40°C in the UK. The change is undoubtedly, undoubtably human induced.

On this site, spoilt westerners are proudly announcing their twice daily showers with nary a thought for anything but their own comfort. Children's futures? Who cares.

How many people in the world, living or throughout history have had this choice? A miniscule amount. It is a luxury, not a necessity. A choice. One people are happy to make without further thought.

Other planets do go through cycles of change in their climate, but none, including Mercury, are going through the rapid change as seen on earth, or human induced climate change.

Well said! The absolute waste that so many people think nothing of these days is astounding - and yes, no doubt I can be wasteful in some ways myself, but I do try not to be. The luxuries which people apparently cannot do without, mind boggling. They don't seem to understand that many of these luxuries are very modern, people lived in a different way for a very, very, long time - and somehow managed to enjoy life regardless. Still, who cares about the planet, far more important that people get their two or three showers a day.

CamelSilk · 10/08/2023 06:19

Well said @RavingStyle. We all need to take responsibility for reducing our energy consumption in every way we can.

Oblomov23 · 10/08/2023 07:58

outside germs, grubby, dirty.

I don't know of all this dirt of which you speak. I just go about my day, I don't worry about germs.

Mercury is not 'on fire'.

MN world: I shower twice a day and everyone else especially women should otherwise they are grim and disgusting. I can tell with one sniff that the lady at the end of the train carriage didn't shower today and the man that served me in pret only had a wash. I sit next to Jane at work and she showers twice a day but I can tell Barbara hasn't had a shower since 9.45pm yesterday.

In RL : Most people neither know nor care how frequently or at what time their friends/neighbours/colleagues wash or shower and majority of people don't smell!

It's bizarre, isn't it? The "I can tell on the school run who's had a shower or not" people.
It was never remotely obvious to me, but then again I never felt inclined to go around sniffing other parents, because, y'know, weird.

I’ve got a really strong sense of smell. I can’t diffentiate between who showered this morning, last night or a day ago tbh. And neither do l really care.
